What Courtney suggested is a way you can use the tribe_events shortcode to only show featured events. Unfortunately, there is no built in way to accomplish what you are looking for.
You could achieve that but would involve some custom coding. As a reference, you can use one of the methods described in our themers guide to accomplish that > https://theeventscalendar.com/knowledgebase/themers-guide/

The Number of events to show per page can be set under Events > Settings > General tab.
There is no built in option to alter the number of characters to display, but depending on the view you want to modify this, you could customize our templates by one of the methods described in our themer’s guide > https://theeventscalendar.com/knowledgebase/themers-guide/

I’ve been able to track down the bug report for this issue, so I linked this thread to it. We’ll notify you once a fix is released in a future maintenance release of our plugins.

I’m sorry your are experiencing that issue.
We are fairly limited in how much support we can give for customizations like that. That said, we always like helping out and at least point our users into the right direction as much possible.
What happens if you remove the template override for the venue page? Does it show the default venue template?
If it does, could you please send us a copy of the template override in a private reply? I’ll try to see if I can spot the problem from there.
Also, please share with us your system information by following this guide > https://theeventscalendar.com/knowledgebase/sharing-sys-info/. We’ll see if there is anything strange that would indicate an error from there.

I’m sorry for the confusion here. I did not understand correctly the issue you were reporting. Let me try to explain this better.
We currently do not support importing recurring events, meaning they won’t be a recurring event for your site to be edited with Events Calendar PRO’s built in functionality > https://theeventscalendar.com/knowledgebase/pro-recurring-events/.
However, you should be able to import recurring events as single events. But, after a few tests I have found there is currently a bug while importing recurring events from Facebook, where it does not import every instance, but gets the first instance start date and last instance end date for one event.
I have just logged a bug report for this issue so it will be addressed in a future maintenance release of our plugins. We cannot commit to a date for this, but I have linked this thread to the bug report so we will notify you as soon as a fix is available.

I understand your situation with using the shortcode. You might want to try selecting a different Event Template by going to Events > Settings > Display tab. Depending on your theme, you might be able to see other templates available and use the one with the sidebar.
