    Good afternoon Maribeth,

Kudos on the PHP upgrade. If nothing else, you will notice that your site will run much faster now.

We may be technically “multi-site” because we had set up a testing server before we went live, but this testing server is not being used. I am not sure why it’s an issue with updates now, since we’ve had these plug-ins for a few years

I am not sure either, but what I can tell you is that try to update a personal license on a network install automatically is not supposed to work.

To make things smooth, you would have to revert to a non-network installation of WordPress. That would be the only workaround.

As I look at the instructions to update manually, I have to delete all files and data? This makes me extremely uncomfortable with our live site, even if I have a backup in place.

I can understand the sentiment. Even though the procedure is 100% safe, it is always wise to back up your files and database first.

Some people also like to activate a “Maintenance Page” plugin to make sure their web users are not impacted.

Let me know how that goes.

    Best regards,
    Geoff B.

    Good afternoon Anders,

    Thank you for following-up.

Some tickets would actually cost, does that man we would need the “add to cart, proceed to checkout” after all?

    That is a great question.

WooCommerce can be really tailored using its settings and with third-party plugins. One of the things you can do is to bypass the add to cart process and go straight to checkout.

Another solution would be to use our very own Tribe Commerce solution. Basically, it is an alternative to WooCommerce in this case. It is a very simple Paypal checkout process, bypassing all of the bells and whistles of WooCommerce.

To be honest it´s a little intimidating that we need to add 5 plugins, does it risk to slow things down?

Thank you for sharing your thoughts on this. We should be doing a better job at addressing that very specific concern.

That said, and hopefully this can help you feel more comfortable, the shere number of plugins has no impact on performance per se.

In other words, the fact that our plugin suite is broken down in several plugins will not make things slower than if they were bundled up in one gigantic plugin.

What can happen when you are using several plugins or poorly designed plugins is that they can conflict with one another or misuse your server resources.

As you can imagine, we have a whole team that focuses exclusively on making sure that this is not the case.

All that to say that you can add these 5 plugins without worrying about it.

Let me know if that helps.

    Have a great day!

    Good evening Paul,

Thank you for your awesome words.
As it turns out, the initial snippet did not work with your setup.

But, the good news is that the following one worked like a charm: https://gist.github.com/niconerd/16770b84adb6156aaa77948bf208bacb

Let me know how that goes.

    Good afternoon Dennis,

    Thank you for writing back.

Just to set expectations, the scope of our support is mostly to get our customers started on the right track and to help them in case of issues.

We, unfortunately, do not provide complete support for customization.

With that in mind, the simplest approach is the following:

    1. Head over to /the-events-calendar/src/functions/template-tags/general.php and copy the code from lines 1022 to 1041
    2. Paste the code in your theme’s functions.php file
    3. Rename the function tribe_events_event_schedule_details_customspan in your theme’s functions.php file
    4. Navigate the freshly added code to locate all the “$inner” lines and add your own spans in the mix

    To finalize this:

    1. Head over to /wp-content/plugins/the-events-calendar/src/views/list/single-event.php  and download the file
    2. Open the file and replace the call to echo tribe_events_event_schedule_details() by echo tribe_events_event_schedule_details_customspan()
    3. Upload the modified file back to [your-theme]/tribe-events/list/single-event.php

Let me know how that goes.

    Best regards,
    Geoff B.

    Good afternoon Marsha,

Any idea how I can get the full width banner added to the single event page?

To achieve this, you will need to do a customization of the single event view.

    • Head over to /wp-content/plugins/the-events-calendar/src/views/single-event.php
    • Download the file and Open it
    • Add your desired div just before the tribe-events-content div (with the banner)
    • Save the file and upload it to [your-theme]/tribe-events/single-event.php

You might need to style your div to make sure it is full width.

Let me know how that goes.

    Best regards,
    Geoff B.

    Good afternoon Maribeth,

I am glad you were able to fix the display.

As for the plugin updates, it looks like there are 2 things that are potentially not helping:

    1. Based on the system information I have, I would strongly advise upgrading your PHP version at least to 5.6+ (preferably 7+). Several plugins (including ours) are no longer going to support older versions of PHP. You might want to reach out to your web hosting company about that.
    2. It looks like you are running personal licenses on a multisite installation.

Although this is totally allowed, it does come with a caveat: you cannot upgrade our plugins automatically. You will need to do so manually (download the files and upload them). You can read about that here: https://theeventscalendar.com/knowledgebase/multisite-license/

Let me know if that helps.

    Have a great day!

    Good afternoon Anders,

    Thank you for writing back.

Is it possible to skip the first part that only shows the number select and directly just show name/contact info fields? …and I guess hide/remove “RSVP”,”Going/Not going”

The short answer is yes, you can do that. But you will need to use a platform like TribeCommerce or WooCommerce ironically to achieve that.

The good news is that the setup is pretty straightforward and there is tons of help out there for it.

If you decide to use WooCommerce (which would be my recommendation), you don’t even need to set up a payment gateway (you could use C.O.D. or cheque as payment solutions).

That would work since it sounds like your tickets are “free” and WooCommerce lets you “sell” free items.

Am I right that I will have to wait for an upcoming version if I want a select list included here where recurring dates for the same event are listed ?

    That is correct.

That said, some people workaround that by adding as many tickets as there are recurring events in the recurring event. Each ticket’s name is a specific date in the series.

For example, let’s say I have a recurring event every week for a month starting today, I would add 5 tickets in my event:

    1. July 2nd ticket
    2. July 9th ticket
    3. July 16th ticket
    4. July 23rd ticket
    5. July 30th ticket

These 5 tickets would appear in all the recurring events. To make it more user-friendly, you can simply add a sale end date so that the tickets disappear once the event is passed. This also makes sure nobody purchases tickets for an event that has already happened.

    For example:

    1. July 2nd ticket – sale end date July 3rd
    2. July 9th ticket – sale end date July 10th
    3. July 16th ticket – sale end date July 17th
    4. July 23rd ticket – sale end date July 24th
    5. July 30th ticket – sale end date July 31st

Let me know if that helps.

    Have a great day!

    Good afternoon Brandon,

    Thank you for writing back.

To find the location of files, your best friend is the Themer’s guide.

More specifically, the file you will want to look at is located at /wp-content/plugins/the-events-calendar/src/views/month/content.php

Since you are using Avada, your theme already contains overrides for the Events Calendar.
Ironically enough, the default navigation is both at the top and at the bottom. But Avada removed that.

So it will only be a matter of putting the code back in and uploading the file back to your Child theme.

Let me know how that goes.

    Hey there Cheryl,

Yikes! Let’s fix the calendar issue first.

Head over to Events -> Settings -> General and hit “Save Changes”.

Once that is done, head over to wp-admin > Settings > Permalinks and hit “Save Changes”.

Let me know how that goes.

    Best regards,

Good evening Marsha and welcome to the Events Calendar Support forum!

Thank you for reaching out to us.
I would love to help you with this topic.

I’m trying to duplicate the functionality of Northpointe Church

To be able to have the exact same look and feel as that site, you would need to replicate all the customizations they have performed or simply ask for a copy of their WordPress theme.

Just to set expectations, the scope of our support is mostly to get our customers started on the right track and to help them in case of issues. We, unfortunately, do not provide complete support for customization.

In other words, this specific layout does not match any of our out-of-the-box themes.

But, the good news is that you can personalize any view to your liking.

You might want to read our Themer’s guide to get a sense of how that works.

You can also read about customization here: https://theeventscalendar.com/customizations/

If coding is not really your cup of tea, you could always hire one of our recommended customizers to do the customization for you.

With that in mind, the main view is not that far from the photo view. Especially if you apply the following: https://theeventscalendar.com/knowledgebase/change-photo-view-to-equal-height-grid/

    Have a good weekend,

Good afternoon Owen and welcome back!

Thank you for reaching out to us.
I would love to help you with this topic.

Your best bet would be to use a template override (basically a modified version of the list view file).

You might want to read our Themer’s guide to get a sense of how that works.

    In short:

    1. Find the list view file
    2. Download it
    3. Edit it to add your text
    4. Upload the file back to your WordPress theme

Let me know how that goes.

    Best regards,
    Geoff B.
