You can use that function anywhere in the template to display the featured image of an event. So, for example:

<?php echo tribe_event_featured_image(); ?>

…and that would return the featured image for the event.

Hey Mike,

So sorry for the trouble!

It is indeed possible to add, edit and delete event categories under Events > Event Categories.

The trouble is, there is an existing issues that prevents the editing of events at the moment. We just logged this issue today, in fact, and I will add your thread to the ticket. I’ll mark this thread as Pending Fix in the meantime and will follow-up with you when I know more.

It looks like your theme styles are setting most of the styling for the widget on your site. We do not explicitly align the text to the left–that is likely coming directly from your theme and needs to be updated from there.

Shoot, I’m unable to access the link you shared–it seems to go to a Page Not Found.

I was able to access your calendar though and check things out from there.

there is a strange array error showing up at the top of the page. what is this all about?

I visited a few of the events on your calendar, including this one:

…however, I was unable to see any errors displayed on the page. Is there something you see that perhaps I am missing? Please let me know!

also in the right hand side my calendar widget has no interactivity

That actually is not one of The Event Calendar’s widgets. Instead, it appears to be the WordPress Calendar widget. I know, it can be confusing when two things are called “Calendar” but try replacing that widget with the one called “Events Calendar” instead. 🙂

Let’s start here and see if it helps things out.

Yes, every category does get it’s own unique URL which can be linked to directly. For example, if I have an event category called Birthday, the URL would look something like:

[my-site]/events/category/birthday

Events Calendar PRO also includes a shortcode for embedding the Mini Calendar and List View widgets and both include the ability to filter those widgets by category as well.

Hello Hans, welcome back!

Hmm, that’s certainly odd. I just checked my test site in a default WordPress theme (Twenty Fifteen) with The Events Calendar 4.0.1 and the excerpts appear to be displaying correctly (screenshot). I tried all views, including List, Month, Week, Day, Map and Photo.

Can you confirm that you are running 4.0.1 for both The Events Calendar and Events Calendar PRO? Is there a particular view that is not working for you? Please let me know.

Awesome, I’m glad that helped uncover the conflict!

Unfortunately, it’s tough for us to know or even troubleshoot why there is a conflict with someone else’s plugin. Chances are that the membership settings from the other plugin are interfering with the settings Community Events is trying to set for registered users on your site. I would suggest reaching out to that developer to see if there are any clues they can provide. And, of course, if any questions pop up that I can help answer, I would be happy to!
