ParticipantHi guys,
I have just installed the 4.01 patch. This should fix the problem where in multiple views the entire event description was showing instead of the shorter version like before v4.
Because of the issue caused by the v4 upgrade, I added excerpts to all my events and was quite pleased with the outcome. But after the 4.01 patch, I see that even my manual excerpts are overruled! When my excerpt is longer than the predefined # of words, it still gets cut off on my Picture View (and other views as well).

MemberHello Hans, welcome back!
Hmm, that’s certainly odd. I just checked my test site in a default WordPress theme (Twenty Fifteen) with The Events Calendar 4.0.1 and the excerpts appear to be displaying correctly (screenshot). I tried all views, including List, Month, Week, Day, Map and Photo.
Can you confirm that you are running 4.0.1 for both The Events Calendar and Events Calendar PRO? Is there a particular view that is not working for you? Please let me know.
Thanks!

MemberHey there, Hans,
Thanks for following up. And excellent details, by the way! I really appreciate the detailed steps you outlined in your last reply. That helps a ton. 🙂
SO, in short: The manual excerpts worked perfectly fine in the 4.00 version. Including lay-out, color, bold text,   space between lines of text…
Yes, what you describe was a bug in 4.0. In other words, 4.o displayed the entire event content rather than the excerpt. That means formatting was passed in as well.
4.0.1 cleaned that up but also returned excerpts to how they were even back The Events Calendar 3.x which is with no formatting.
If you would like HTML formatting in the event excerpt, you could add this snippet to your functions.php file:

Let me know if that helps do the trick. 🙂
Thanks!

ParticipantHi Geoff,
Thanks for your reply 🙂
I added it to my functions.php file for my Divi theme and the site crashed 😛 Shows you how little I know about PHP. I finally figured out that I shouldn’t include <?php> before my addition, and after that, no website crashes anymore.
But… I don’t see any difference. The tooltips and excerpts shown in the available views are still not-formatted and capped at inconvenient places.
What now?

MemberHey Hans!
It looks like the HTML formatting is coming through in the excerpts — here’s a screenshot of one in List View and another one in Photo View.
If there are strange instances of capped words, is it possible they are coming in from the language files?

MemberSorry about that, Hans!
I don’t have a fix at the moment, but I have added a ticket or us to look into so we can patch this up in an upcoming release. I’ll be sure to follow up with you when I have more to share and set this thread to Pending Fix in the meantime.
Thanks,

MemberThanks for the update, Hans! No news on this issue yet. We are in the middle of working on our next release (4.1) and will be scoping out the following release after that, which will include reported bugs. I’ll keep you posted as I know more.
Thanks!
