It’s a fairly easy troubleshooting step so I’d suggest going ahead and giving it a try.

I could be mistaken, but I’m pretty sure WordPress only displays that message if the (admin related) file it is looking for doesn’t exist, or it seems that it doesn’t exist – which could result from file permission issues or PHP basedir restrictions.

Hi Reuben, that’s unusual. As you point out the mini-calendar is generating URLs such as:

    http://www.downtownabbotsford.com/event/abbotsford-farm-and-country-market/

When it would be preferable for them to be of a pattern that includes the individual date:

    http://www.downtownabbotsford.com/event/abbotsford-farm-and-country-market/2012-11-10/

Indeed that is the expected behaviour and it’s what I experience when I test this out, so there is something atypical going on here. I do note that you have tried deactivating all other plugins and reverting to a default theme (I presume without success?) so let’s look at a couple of other avenues:

    • What is your permalink structure (normally this is something like %postname% and can be found by navigating to Settings > Permalinks)
    • Have you edited your templates (either directly or by using template overrides)? If so can you try switching back to the default views
    • What versions of The Events Calendar, Events Calendar PRO and any other Modern Tribe plugins are you using? The current stable release is 2.0.10

It does look like you’ve made a few customizations, I can’t pull up the regular calendar view for instance even if I try to do so directly (instead I see the upcoming events list):

    http://www.downtownabbotsford.com/events/month/

Is there anything in the way you have made these customizations that may be impacting here?

    Thanks!

Hey Steve: how are you installing/updating – by FTP or some other means? It would be interesting to know for future reference.

Any suggestions on which file permissions to change?

So try changing the permissions on the plugin directory itself (wp-content/plugins/the-events-calendar and any other Modern Tribe plugin directories, such as for Events Calendar PRO) and initially make them:

    • As permissive as possible (777)
    • Apply the change recursively, in other words we want all files and folders within the directory to inherit those permissions

How you go about this varies according to your host and what level of access you have, so seek their advice if you are unsure. If that does solve the problem then remember to clamp the file permissions down again as leaving them at 777 is not the best idea.

You could for instance reduce the permissions iteratively until you find the lowest possible value where everything still works within your hosting environment.

And, naturally, if that doesn’t solve anything just let me know and we’ll go from there.

    Thanks!

You might also find this [link redacted] I wrote to be useful, though that is entirely my own thoughts and code and isn’t officially supported here on the Modern Tribe forums.

Feel free to create a new thread if you need further support – for now I will close this thread.

That’s unfortunate – but it is hard to know exactly what the problem is without seeing it. In what way are the tabs and fonts out of order?

I see you tested this out with other plugins disabled and by switching to another theme – was the same problem evident with just The Events Calendar/Events Calendar PRO and the Twenty Eleven theme running?

One other question – you annotated that you are using The Events Calendar 2.0.10 and Events Calendar 2.0.4. They should both be at version 2.0.10 – can you confirm that you have updated both to correct this (or let me know if that was a mistake)?

    Thanks!

Hi Parvaiz: the short answer is yes, you can do that. For more information please check our Pre Purchase FAQs and this post which specifically covers what you are asking.

    Thanks!

    Hi Steve – that’s unfortunate.

I wonder if this might be a file permissions issue … in any event, as we are now at version 2.0.10 can you update to those new releases and check if this persists?

Right, so what you will probably need to do is pull that in either manually or by working from the supplied .pot file.

I’m afraid I can’t really give in-depth guidance here but in addition to the above FAQ I would also point you to this article on the WordPress codex:

Thanks for the note Shawn: I will try and replicate this on Monday using Internet Explorer 9 (in IE8 mode).

Yeah it could be worth entering the new license number before trying to update – especially if the old one expired. Great to hear your feedback on the experience and we’re always open to suggestions as to how we could improve things 🙂

Hi Alexis, Alexander and Wendell: sorry your questions got missed – I am however going to close this thread now as we are on version 2.0.10 now … if you have further issues with that version please create new threads describing your individual problems and issues and I or another team member will be only too happy to help.

    Thanks!

Hi Shawn – what a strange problem. Just to confirm, if you create and publish a new event then click on any Events Calendar menu entries your browser tab closes?

Do you only see this behaviour when using The Events Calendar or does it happen with any built-in or other third party admin pages? Can you also confirm which version of Internet Explorer you are using – and let me know (if possible) if the same problem occurs using other browsers.

Do you have any toolbars, or anything of that order, installed in Internet Explorer that might be interfering?

    ‘Ello!

Happy to help out here Hunter – but since it involves resetting my workstation I’d rather have full instructions in terms of how I should replicate this.

Of course if you don’t need any further help that’s totally fine, too 🙂

Cool, well Leah should help you from here on.

(I’ll put my hand up and admit I couldn’t find the FAQ link first time either, one of my colleagues had to point it out, so you’re not alone!)
