Quick update – we’ve logged this as a high priority issue for the next release so unless some kind of unexpected problem arises on a technical level the lack of a “This occurrence or all occurrences” dialog when you navigate to the editor from the frontend ought to be fixed a few weeks from now.

Sorry to hear that you are having difficulties. I’m 99% sure that I have been able to replicate this issue – but I just want to be certain we are experiencing the same thing.
It seems to me that if you edit an event by navigating to it from the dashboard (rather than from the front end) a modal window offering a choice between “This instance or all instances” will appear when you click on Move to Trash, though this does not seem to happen if you click on the edit link after viewing the event in the front-end. Can you confirm if you are experiencing the same thing?
If you could also confirm the version of The Events Calendar you are running with that would be great 🙂

I took a look at your events calendar (http://www.nightlifenation.co.uk/events/) to try and get a better feel for this issue – however I’m unsure what I’m looking for. I did notice that the normal controls that let visitors navigate between months have been hidden; is that connected to the issue with adding HTML before the calendar? Or have you temporarily removed this?

Hi Jeffrey, thanks for reaching out to us.
I took a look at http://www.gabelliconnect.com/calendar/ and that looks absolutely normal to me – the current month is displayed within the dropdown selector.
I guess you want to make this a little more prominent?

I don’t know if this would help, but I was recently discussing a way of changing the Upcoming Events List such that a recurring event would list once, and a note of any recurring dates placed beside it (rather than listing them as “standalone” events in their own right). You can see what we came up with by visiting that topic.
Of course there are probably other ways of achieving this or achieving similar but slightly different outcomes – could be worth scouring the forum to see if anyone else has thought of neat ways to deal with this.
If you could email across a zipped copy of the theme you are using and anything else you think might be helpful (like screenshots or a note of theme settings I would need to enable to replicate the issue etc) to [email protected] that would be great.
Hi Andy! You’re perfectly correct of course – and if you want to give that a whirl (Phil) please do! You can find guidance on how to package up code as a plugin here.
The reason I shy away from suggesting this is that past experience tells me wrapping code in a plugin in this way can be a step too far for many people – who simply want to copy and paste code into a specific location (I’m not suggesting this is the case with you Phil!).
It’s a great idea though for those who are comfortable doing it 🙂

So this is a bit of a hack but it’s the best I’ve been able to come up with so far. The first thing is that you would need to add a little code – your theme’s functions.php file is a fairly good place for this, but if in doubt follow the instructions that relate to your specific theme:
Next you would need to amend your customized list.php template (which should be within the your-theme/events directory):
Put both of these together and for a given recurring event it should display the initial event, then dates for subsequent events will be listed underneath the start/end dates.
Of course you might want to change the way that information is presented, if so feel free to play around with the code!
And if anyone has any neater ways to achieve this, please do feel free to reply with details 🙂

I haven’t heard anything so far – but I’ll follow up early next week if that’s ok. The team is pretty busy and this is a fairly specific customization – but give us a little more time and we’ll see what we can do.
