Hi again David – thanks for your patience so far.

So after chatting about this with the team I’m afraid I would have to say that this is just too specific a customization for us to be able to help you out.

I’ve no doubt it is possible to do what you want, but it would require a lot of further thought and consideration. It may be that you could contract another developer to help you out with this?

On this occasion though I am afraid we will have to bow out.

If you bear with me a little longer I’ll check in with our developers.

I’m not sure of what sort of event data is typical in your scenario, but there are certainly some probable drawbacks with the strategy I suggested.

OK, so with regards to the first problem, I think what you are describing is simply the normal process whereby the upcoming event list only shows events on or after the date you visit it. Normally of course future recurring events *will* be visible in this list, but if I am understanding you correctly then you have already made some customizations that prevent this?

If that sounds correct, would an approach where the start date of the upcoming events list is pushed back an appropriate length of time work from your perspective?

Regarding changing the custom post type from events to classes: anything is possible but this would definitely not be the sort of thing we would support.

OK, so give me a moment to try and replicate the first problem and I’ll get back to you as soon as I can. Unfortunately I’ve got some internet connectivity issues right now so that’s slowing me down some.

Hi David, I’d just like to be sure I understand the problem correctly.

Are you referring to the limit on the number of events listed per page (when in list view) or do you mean something else?

Hi Andrew – thanks for contacting us, but I’m not actually sure that the page you linked to has anything to do with The Events Calendar. For instance, this is one of your events:

    http://www.hexhamcc.com/event/cap-money-course/

Note that the formatting is markedly different and also the URL contains “/event/” whereas the link you provided has a different structure – I wondered if perhaps this issue might relate to a different plugin?

Hi Adrian. I’m not familiar with Mysitemyway’s themes but I’m sure we can figure something out.

It would certainly be easier to get a feel for the problem if you were able to send me a copy of your theme – or even if you could provide a URL for the site in question, so that I could see the problem via my own browser.

    Thanks!

Thanks Andy, we’ll look into that. It’s not necessarily “illegal”, depending on how your PHP environment is configured, but it can definitely cause problems and we appreciate that not all hosting environments allow the sort of control that is necessary to allow short-tags.

I’ll flag this up to the developers – thanks for the heads up 🙂

Hey Graeme. It sounds like you didn’t have any problems implementing Jonah’s code, so what I am going to suggest is just making a slight amendment to that code – the part where you call the_post_thumbnail(), everything else can stay the same.

I posted a few different snippets over on Pastebin, have a play with those and figure out which approach you feel most comfortable with. If you need any more help please just shout back!

Hi Phil. I’ve put together a filter function which you can see here:

    http://pastebin.com/7e80ydaP

What I would suggest is placing that within your theme’s functions.php file – all you need to do is change value of $eventCategory (inside the function) and replace it with the slug or name of the category you are planning on using.

If you need any further help with this or can’t get the code to work please just let me know!
