Hey Joe! Thanks for reaching out here. I’d definitely suggest starting with the documentation we’ve outlined at https://theeventscalendar.com/support/documentation. That covers most of what you’d need and goes pretty in-depth. Can you give it a review and let me know if you need anything else on that end?

    Thanks!

Isaac: thanks for the follow-up. Awesome to hear you found a solution with Yoast here; this definitely should alleviate indexing concerns and could be of value to other users who share your concern down the road. Thanks for sharing on that end.

It sounds like you’re set here but if any other issues arise, please do let us know.

Thanks for confirming as much, Craig, and for the guidance you’ve helped to provide Michelle above.

Michelle, to answer your question: my guess is this is a templating issue, but I can’t see the form at that link you provided. Would you mind going to Settings -> The Events Calendar and trying a different template solution from the dropdown that is provided? The plugin includes 2 of it’s own, and your theme may have a couple others.

If that doesn’t do the trick…please open a new thread and provide a link to the form, so I can get a dev to jump in and try to assist as needed. Thanks in advance!

That is awesome to hear, Laura — thanks for confirming as much. If anything else arises with this down the road let me know and we can keep looking into it.

Hey Michael. Thanks for the note here, and for your feedback on your experiences so far. Awesome to hear you’ve been getting some use out of the plugin.

As it just so happens, the next add-on we’ll be realeasing is a Facebook Events Sync add-on that allows you to automatically import Facebook events into your site (though unfortunately won’t go the opposite — importing events to FB). The only import-based solution we have at this point is a CSV importer that is in beta stages, but which I’d be happy to send your way if you were interested. Let me know.

Hope that helps and thanks again for the note. Please feel free to reach out if you have any other follow-up questions.

That’s a great suggestion, Sacha….I can totally see the value of having that thread linked to on the product page. (We’re also creating a “Showcase” page on the site here that is more official and includes commentary from us on the sites we like best). I’ve logged that as an issue for the team as we plot our next phase of development for the tri.be site here. Thanks for the heads up.

Sounds like you’re all set on this issue but if you need anything else down the road, please let us know.

Hi there Yancy. Thanks for the follow-up, and sorry to hear that the solution Jonah presented above doesn’t do the trick. It does look like our developer has marked the issue pertaining to contributor posting problems “Pending QA” in our projects system, which means — if it passes muster during our QA pass later this week — it will be included in the 2.0.7 build that is out the first week of June. (In terms of the specific issue, it was a problem that the plugin was using was using the capability ‘publish_posts’ rather than ‘edit_tribe_events’ before duplicating the event meta-data for contributors. We also fixed up the capabilities for venue saving and organizer saving, although it had no direct effect on this). Assuming that does pass QA you’ll have a resolution in less than 2 weeks.

As with any plugin, Events Calendar PRO is a work-in-progress that we’re always aiming to improve based on feature requests and bug reports presented by the community. We do monthly maintenance releases for this plugin to tackle the issues as they arise, and then have broader releases (like the planned 2.1) for big dev pushes that are usually feature-heavy. While we try to tackle issues in as timely a fashion as possible after they’re reported by community members, we’re a small team and as such have only got limited development bandwidth.

While we’d hate to see you go, if you think a refund is fair after hearing what I’ve noted above…let me know and I can process that for you, so you can use the funds on a solution that is more viable for your needs. Seems like at this point it’d be worth waiting for 2.0.7 though.

I’m reposting what I sent via email as I’d prefer to keep the conversation tracked here than via emails…

Thanks Sheila. Just took another look around the backend of the site and I am still seeing an issue as well. Something else is up here —

    Also worth noting:

    * I think your permalink structure is messed up and missing the trailing slash: http://d.pr/i/aDd8.
    * Probably isn’t wise to have the Community rewrite slug as “event”, since that is already taken by the single event entry slug. These should not be the same.

The problem is that even with the option to edit ones own submission turned on, I am not seeing the Edit link in the broader events list for the sococulture account. This makes no sense and is counter to what I’m seeing on every test site I’ve run this on so far: with that setting enabled, the “Edit” option appears in the events list and the ability to edit works: http://d.pr/i/8Lb3. The fact that you are not seeing this means that something (either custom code in the theme or another plugin) is causing a conflict.

Have you already tried the plugin/theme deactivation route? Deactivating each plugin one-by-one, then reverting to the 2011 theme with plugins deactivated as needed? That is my best bet at this point in helping us identify a conflict.

Hey Sheila. Thanks for the follow-ups; happy to help here as best I can, but admittedly as a team of freelancers (and with just Jonah & myself running support) we’ve got limited bandwidth here on the forums each day….so bear with us on that end 🙂

So just to summarize your past few notes and make sure we’re on the same page here:

    * The trashing issues has been resolved so we can ignore that.
    * You’ve removed the “Member” role and changed it to a “Subscriber.”

In terms of allowing users to edit from their interface: that is definitely the way the plugin is intended to operate, and has operated on all the sites we’ve encountered so far. If I understand your last note on the topic you’re saying that the default roles are overridding the plugin’s ability to let users edit posts that they technically cannot see on the backend?

Just want to make sure we’re on the same page, and to identify what exactly the issue that remains is. Looking through the backend of your site I see a few other aspects that may help us identify what’s up:

    * Please try reverting back to the standard slug structure to see if this issue persists: /events/community/add for the form.
    * I see you have a plugin active called “Redirection.” Redirecting plugins have caused conflicts in the past and it’d be good to test without this activated, if possible.
    * Lastly, you’re running the Community alpha code. That is not the final/stable/supported release…and could very well be the root of our issues here. Any chance you can upgrade to the official tagged 1.0 build to see if the issue persists?

Let me know about the above and we can keep troubleshooting from there. Thanks for your patience and the detailed responses so far.

As for editing your posts here on the forum…the edit functionality is busted. We’ve got a fix to deploy for it next time we push out a round of website tweaks. Apologies for the inconvenience in the interim on that end.

Hey there Allan. Thanks for the suggestions here; in terms of the page template for the form, that is definitely a solid idea. Our dev Jonah will be taking a look and responding at that thread you mentioned directly with some advice for Mike later today…depending on what he says that may get you where you need to be. (Though if not, we’ll log it as a future request).

tribe-events-community.css should be overrideable already. Can you provide the steps you’ve gone through to do the override in a new thread, and I can attempt to troubleshoot there?

Thanks Allan. We’ve been having some email notification issues with the forum (we’re working to fix those now) so I’ve sent this to Jonah manually to review. He should be able to take a look when he next hits the forums later this afternoon.

Hey Craig. Thanks for the follow-up; I understand what you’re saying here. It does look like you’ve found a solution (I hadn’t heard about that plugin until now but it looks legit). However if you ended up not using that…couldn’t you just create the users as subscribers? That way they’ll never have to visit the backend (and even if they do they won’t see anything), but will still be registered on the site.

That’s the simple method I was envisioning, anyway. But it looks like the route you’ve taken is more robust/flexible…which is always a good thing.

Thanks Jaeden. I am seeing this in action; very bizarre, as I haven’t experienced this at all (or heard other users reporting it) so far. Any chance you’d be willing to give us an admin account so we can take a look? Won’t change anything…just want to checkout the backend and your set up to see if we can identify any potential conflicts.

If so, please send the creds to pro /a/ tri.be, with a link to this thread, and we’ll jump into it. Apologies for the inconvenience in the interim.
