For sure, Eric. That function is found in /wp-content/plugins/the-events-calendar/src/functions/template-tags/general.php around line 1066. It sounds like you are planning to copy/paste it, then rename it. That’s a great idea, it should put you well on your way.

Let me know if you have any other questions. Cheers!

Howdy Jill,

That sounds like a good idea for a site. We have seen a few of those, and as luck would have it our calendar is ideally suited for them.

Community Events allows folks to submit events to your calendar, even if they are not site admins. They can submit events and event setup their own Organizer or Venue page. From there anyone visiting that page will be able to browse all events hosted by them. And then ofcourse you will still have a main page which shows all events form everyone.

Events Calendar Pro had some nice mapped based featured you may be interested in. It can show all of your events with little pins on the map for where they are. And users can even search by location, typing in a zip code for instance to find nearby events.

Does that sound like what you’re looking for? Do you have any more questions? Keep in mind our plugins have a 30 day refund window, so if you are finding yourself having trouble picturing how it will work you can buy them risk free and try them out for a while, then return if they dont meet your needs.

Cheers!

Howdy Shon,

I am very sorry for the annoyance there. We added that error to help people identify problems, but for the occassional user it has misbehaved. The cause of this misbehaving has varried.

We would love to help you figure this out one way or another. Either here in our premium support forums, or in our volunteer community forums over on WordPress.org: The Events Calendar. Do you have a support license here, if so can you log in and post back or open a topic in the suppoort forums? If not, definitely open one up on the volunteer forums. Either  way folks can dive in and help you get to the bottom of this.

Cheers!

Howdy James,

Good question. tribe_get_events() retrieves all events that are ongoing between the two dates. In other words if the events end date is taking place between those dates, perhaps because its end date is inside of or after your date search, then it will show in the list.

Does that make sense?

Cheers!

Howdy Matthew,

Good question. I know a number of people facing a similar issue have used WooCommerce Dynamic Pricing & Discounts in combination with WooCommerce Tickets. That seems to be a popular solution. We can’t fully support it, but I have yet to hear any complaints from folks using it.

Keep in mind that the products, or tickets, do not use either event categories or WordPress post cats. They use WooCommerce’ ones. You can set an individual ticket to be in any old Woo category, and it will have no effect on its parent event. By default all tickets are in the hidden Woo category called “Tickets”.  In order to edit the category, just click the edit button next to the ticket. From there you will see the full WooCommerce edit page which allows you to change basically everything about the product/ticket.

Does that all make sense? Will that work for you? Please let me know.

Cheers!

Howdy integrated94,

Thank you for clearly detailing everything you have tried, and the problem. I can definitely reproduce the issue on your site. And when I page back one, then forward again the issue goes away. I would love to help you with this.

Strange as it may seem I have seen similar things before. A lot of themes, and the occasional plugin, has a tendency to mutz with the first title on the page. It is quite curious that the issue did not go away though during your conflict test. When you did the conflict test, did you switch themes and deactivate plugins at the same time or separately? Did you have a caching plugin enabled before the conflict test, or other caching solution? Did you clear your browser cache? Who is your webhost?

Sorry to hammer you with questions. I am hoping one of them will shed a bit more light since the conflict test wasn’t able to. Once we find the source of the problem we are a huge step towards a solution.

Cheers!

in reply to: iCal feed updates #1025057

Howdy Armando,

Sorry for the confusion. I am happy to help clarify.

There are two types of iCal subscriptions. One where you import events into the calendar, one where a user subscribes to your calendar exporting events from your site into their phone or computer. Importing is handled by the iCal Importer, and you can subscribe to an external iCal source and regularly import new events from it. Exporting is not officially supported, but many have been able to get it setup. The Export button iCal feed that is generated by the calendar is automatically updated with new events. And many clients support subscribing to the iCal feeds URL. However, no all do. Further, the feed itself is limited to the # of events you show on your listing page, which is typically 20. So folks that subscribe will only get 20 of your upcoming events.

Does that all make sense? Will that work for you? Please let me know.

Cheers!

Howdy Traci,

It’s nice to meet you! Thanks for considering the plugin. I am happy to help answer your questions.

1. Absolutely. When creating an event you can select Visibility: Private to unlist the event. You can even go a step further and add a password to the event if you prefer that folks will type in before seeing it.
2. It is not possible to limit access for admins. They either have access to all sales data, or none.
3. This can be a bit confusing. We have a few different Ticketing plugins, and they all tie in to an ecommerce platform of your choosing. What they do is add events as a product to that ecommerce store and make purchasing of those products/tickets form the events page a breeze. The actual checkout, collection of payments, reporting, etc. is all handled by the ecommerce store. So if you are interested in reporting you will first want to find an ecommerce platform that has the sales reports you want. The two most popular ones are WooCommerce and Eventbrite. You might check both of those out.

Does that all make sense? Will that work for you? Please let me know.

Cheers!

Howdy Steve,

That is exactly what Community Events  is for. It adds a form to the front end of your website, and allows you to accept event from it. You can control the events you accept and who to accept them from, and even setup an approval system if needed. Does that sound like what you need?

Cheers!

Howdy Steve,

We can definitely get you a refund if that’s what you need. We process all refunds via email to maintain privacy. If you would not mind sending an email to support @ this website with your order number we can go from there.

However, you say you need a multisite solution. Does that mean you want a multisite license? You can upgrade from your current license to a multisite by logging in here, and going to My Account > Licenses and clicking upgrade next to your license. Would that work better? It should be easier and still be the same cost.

Cheers!

Howdy Icn,

We would love to help you there. Likely the answer lies in tribe_get_events(). But to further this discussion, do you mind logging in and posting in the support section? This forum is for presales questions.

Or, if you are not eligible for premium support checkout WordPress.org: The Events Calendar. We have some community volunteers who help out there.

Cheers!

Howdy Elliott,

Basically with how WordPress works you can’t show a Custom Post Type such as The Events Calendar as your home page. However, you can redirect your home page to the events. So when a user visits example.com, they automatically forwarded to example.com/events/. To do this you will need to download a third party redirect plugin.

If you have any questions or need further assistance, please be sure to open a topic on WordPress.org: The Events Calendar. We have a community of volunteers to help out free users there. We can’t continue to provide support via the presales forum here. I hope you understand.

Howdy Brendan,

Good question. I am not able to reproduce that on my system. But I can think of a few things you could try that might fix this:

1. Try selecting a default organizer in WP-Admin > Events > Settings > Community. Hit save. Then change it back to no organizer. That fix it?
2. Do you have any Community Events customizations, particularly theme overrides? If so, try disabling them temporarily? If that fixes it, can you share the customization so I can inspect them and maybe identify the source?

Let me know if the above works. Cheers!

Howdy Emily,

Thanks for taking the time to reach out. I would definitely like to help as best I can. But I must admit I am puzzled too. Your live site and test site both have a sidebar and appear compleetely identical. Did you figure this out perchance?

Most people would modify the sidebar by creating a theme override. Our Themer’s Guide  walks you through how to create those. Is that the solution you did before?

Cheers!

Howdy Matthew,

Good question. That is a bit of an old snippet for adjust the text. We have an update method that is a bit simpler. You should be able to just copy/paste the following code to change that text:
/*
* EXAMPLE OF CHANGING ANY TEXT (STRING) IN THE EVENTS CALENDAR
* See the codex to learn more about WP text domains:
* http://codex.wordpress.org/Translating_WordPress#Localization_Technology
* Example Tribe domains: ‘tribe-events-calendar’, ‘tribe-events-calendar-pro’…
*/
function tribe_custom_theme_text ( $translations, $text, $domain ) {

// Put your custom text here in a key > value pair
// Example: ‘Text you want to change’ > ‘This is what it will be changed to’
// The text you want to change is the key, and it is case-sensitive
// The text you want to change it to is the value
// You can freely add or remove key > values, but make sure to separate them with a comma
// This example changes the label "Venue" to "Location", and "Related Events" to "Similar Events"
$custom_text = array(
‘Location’ => ‘Enter City or Zip’,
);

// If this text domain starts with "tribe-", and we have replacement text
if(strpos($domain, ‘tribe-‘) === 0 && array_key_exists($text, $custom_text) ) {
$text = $custom_text[$text];
}

return $text;
}
add_filter(‘gettext’, ‘tribe_custom_theme_text’, 20, 3);
Does that all make sense? Will that work for you? Please let me know.

Cheers!
