OK, at least for the time being that site is inaccessible so I’m afraid I can’t see the problem. However, it sounds like a bug that can occur when you have set the widget to display 0 events. Is that a possibility here?

If so, this should certainly be fixed in our very next maintenance release (along with some other issues surrounding the calendar widget).

Hi diggeridoo: if you visit the Events → Tags admin screen you will see a list of tags and can obtain links from there (follow the View link or, depending on your browser, right click and copy the URL) – which you can then embed in your special descriptive page.

Sure ok, but what I mean is if you have 10 events categorized as animals 5 of them might additionally be categorized as dogs (and “dogs” may or may not be a subcategory of “animals”).

I don’t really think there is too much more I can suggest here – if The Events Calendar Category Colors is in a sense causing the barrier here (I’m guessing because you still want “Animals” to show and be colored but not “Dogs”?) then you could look at customizing it or tweaking it.

It too has a number of filters that can be used to shape its output, but this is really the territory of custom development and I’m afraid we just can’t help with such specific requests.

Again I’m not sure I quite follow your train of thought, here. Originally you said:

So if all of these activities share a common tag or category you could link to that category – or tag – and only relevant upcoming events will be listed.

Yeah, I mean that I need a link directly to a event class not a category because that category has differents events class within it.

You can assign an event to more than one category – so you can set up a category for this specific grouping of events. I have a suspicion I’m just not grasping your specific requirements here … that being the case it may be best to play around with the plugin and try to hit on a solution that way or, if you need a higher level of support, reaching out to a developer/designer who is experienced with this plugin and who can guide you through this one-on-one.

I see no reason why that wouldn’t be possible with the list widget, perhaps with only some custom styles.

Other than that you could use tribe_get_events() as an alternative to working directly with WP_Query and set it to grab upcoming events – but with the list widget you would get this “for free” and can embed it outside of sidebars, if you need to, by using WordPress’s the_widget() function.

Hi digg,

Using categories or tags certainly sounds like the easiest way forward to me.

I have several categories created but, different events are behind the same category, and I want to list only the scheduled dates of a particular event.

Not quite sure what problem you’re describing, but remember that an event can belong to more than one category and more than one tag. Other alternatives might include using an additional or custom field to ‘flag’ events as belonging to a certain course, but I’d personally recommend using a taxonomy (like categories or tags).

It’s difficult to assess from here without seeing the problem for myself, but although you’ve completed a number of troubleshooting steps (which is awesome, thanks for doing that!) I wonder if you could again attempt the following – paying particular attention to the step concerning your theme:

* Deactivate all other plugins
* Switch to a default, unmodified theme such as Twenty Twelve
* Test and see if the problem is resolved at this point

Of course, I’m basically wondering if there might be a conflict stemming from your theme.

We have had reports that the snippet fixing tags didn’t resolve the issue with the slider. Would you mind adding this one and seeing if it does the trick:

That could be added to your theme’s functions.php file. Note also that, in most cases, the opening <?php tag is unnecessary. Does that help at all?

Hi John, yes: 3.x introduces a new template structure, so some of the custom templates you may have created for 2.0.11 will no longer be used. Our Themer’s Guide has been updated though to give an overview of the current structure, so that’s a great place to start:
