Featured Calendar: Cinema/Chicago
The Chicago International Film Festival is a year-round non-profit organization looking to improve communication between diverse cultures through film. Cinema/Chicago organizes the annual film festival in an effort to represent Chicago’s diverse culture, all while sparking conversations and debates about important topics.
To showcase their film offerings, they use The Events Calendar and Events Calendar Pro. Below, we’ll take a look at the ways in which they display their upcoming film festival events.
A cinematic opening
As with all good stories, we’ll start at the beginning with the homepage. Cinema/Chicago has an action-packed homepage with plenty of graphics representing upcoming events, the latest news, and information about how to get involved.
You’ll find an Events List widget in the righthand sidebar, courtesy of The Events Calendar. This widget comes standard with the free version of our plugin, although you’ll unlock additional filtering options for the widget with Events Calendar Pro. Plus, you’ll gain access to more calendar widgets with the premium plugin.
To find the events page, click on “View Calendar” below the events widget, or head to the navigation menu at the top of the page and click Year-Round > Screening and Event Schedule.
The main storyline
What would an events calendar website be without the main calendar page? On the Cinema/Chicago calendar page, you’ll see a customized List View calendar highlighting their upcoming events. They’ve set List View as their default calendar view, as well as making List View as their only selectable view.

The plot thickens
Once you select an event from the list, you’ll notice that the single event page is really the star of the show. Cinema/Chicago has taken the classic single event page look and added some individualized touches to make the page shine. They include an extra featured image with a movie poster alongside the movie synopsis. Below that are screening and event details, followed by a trailer and additional event information.
