Hi karen and thanks for following up!

Excellent questions and you’re absolutely right that setting up a recurring event that way would create a lot of havoc. There are two ways we can limit the damage here:

    • Edit the recurring series. If you edit the first event in the series in WordPress, then it will edit the rest of the events in the series as well. So, you can change the recurrence dates there to clean things up, or even delete the entire series and start again without impacting the rest of your events.
    • Limit the amount of recurrences. These is an options in Events > Settings in the General Settings section (screenshot) that can help clean things up quit a bit. For example, you can set the option to show only the first event in a recurring series instead of the entire series. You can also tell the plugin to remove past recurring events relative to the current date and set a maximum number of future instances.

To directly answer your question, it is not possible to deactivate recurring events as a whole without fully deactivating The Events Calendar PRO.

Let me know if this helps or if you have any other questions here and I’d be happy to help!

Thanks for chiming in here folks and sorry for the issue folks! We do indeed have this ticketed in our system and are currently looking into it. I have marked this topic as Pending Fix in the meantime and will follow up when we have more to share.

@Tyler — what you’re describing sounds different from the issue reported here. Please give these steps a try for resolving the 404 status of /events and open a new thread if you are still having trouble from there so we can help you directly.

    Thanks for your patience, everyone!

Hey Yoko and thanks for getting in touch!

really wish I could say that reserving a seat is an included feature, but it’s not. We do have an Eventbrite add-on and Eventbrite itself has a seating chart feature–however, that would be available directly through your website with The Events Calendar and visitors would still be directed to Eventbrite to select their seat.

Sorry for the bad news here, but does this at least help answer your question? Feel free to let me know if you have any other questions and I’d be happy to help. 🙂

    Cheers!

    Hello karen,

Shoot, I am so sorry for the troubles and junk you’ve dealt with here. Performance issues are something we do take very seriously and I’m sorry we failed to deliver for you.

Have you checked out the Event Rocket plugin? There is an option to completely wipe out events data in there that could make this process a lot easier for you. It may still take some time considering the amount of data we’re looking at it, but I think it would be more efficient than the bulk delete route.

Sorry again for the troubles and please let me know if there’s anything else I can do to help here.

Thanks for the additional info, Giles!

Just looking over your system information again, it looks like Photo View is the only enabled view in your settings. In fact, that URL appears to work correctly:

    http://www.bythelake.ch/events/photo/

However, it also looks like your default view is set to List View, which is not an enabled view. In that case, the calendar would produce a 404 error.

Will you please head to Events > Settings > Display, enable the List View option and save your settings to see if that helps? You may need to flush your permalinks as well (Settings > Permalinks and click the Save button) but let’s see if this helps us get to the bottom of things.

    Thanks!

    Hi there, Allison!

Great question and, yes, that is absolutely possible. In fact, if you are unable to see an option in there for you to purchase a Personal site renewal, then please send us an email to support [at] theeventscalendar.com (and link to this thread) and we would be happy to hook you up. 🙂

    Cheers,

Hi kmengvik and sorry for the trouble here with recurring events! Let’s try to figure this out together.

Were recurring events displaying and then stopped? Or have they never displayed at all for you?

If they were displaying and then stopped, do you recall what changes had been made to the site between them working and not working? For example, was there a WordPress update or a theme change? Any detail you can provide here about what changed would be super helpful!

In the meantime, it would also be great for you to try these troubleshooting steps and let me know what you find.

    Thanks!

    Hey flourishdesignstudio,

Shoot, sorry to the see the trouble here with Google Maps displaying on the single event pages. I definitely see what you mean, so let’s try to figure this out!

I have used this theme/plugin combination before

Have there been any other changes since the last time you’ve used this combo? For example, has the theme had any updates? Or perhaps there are different plugins installed in this instance of the site that were not installed before?

I do see that you have noted trying to switch to a default WordPress theme. Did you notice any difference when you did? In other words, were the maps still not there when switching to the Twenty Fifteen theme?

Let’s start there and see what we find.

    Thanks!

Hey Rafael! thanks so much for getting in touch and sorry for the trouble here with the Community Events page 404-ing like that.

I do see another recent thread from someone reporting a similar problem with Community Events URLs. I’ve gone ahead and ticketed this in our system so we can look into it further for you. I’ll follow up with you directly here once we have more to share.

In the meantime, it might be worth running through these steps to test for potential conflicts with specific plugins or the theme. Not sure it will produce any results, but it would be a good measure to make sure we’re covering all our bases while we dig into this.

Thanks and sorry again for the trouble!

Thanks, Bud! I appreciate the additional info. 🙂

First thing I notice is that there are a couple of Javascript conflicts in the console when checking out the site, one of which I see from time to time:

You have included the Google Maps API multiple times on this page. This may cause unexpected errors.

It’s tough to tell if resolving that will also resolve the email link, but I have seen cases where that conflict causes seemingly unrelated issues and would be worth clearing out here. In this case, it looks like the theme or another installed plugin is adding an additional call to the Google Maps API than the one that The Events Calendar needs for it’s own mapping functionality.

I would suggest following the steps outlined here to determine if that is indeed the case or if there is some other conflict at play that’s not quite as obvious. I’m not getting the same issue when I revert to the default WordPress Twenty Fifteen theme and deactivate all other plugins, except for The Events Calendar and PRO, so seeing if you still have the issue in those same conditions would be a good place to start.

    Thanks a ton!

Interesting! Are you using a plugin to manage your multilingual content, or are each of those separate WordPress installations?

The reason I ask is that there are a number of known conflicts and complications with multilingual sites, so I’m wondering if that is the core issue we’re looking at.

Hi Will and thanks for reaching out!

This is actually something that has come up in our feature request forum. It looks like it is currently under review and I was able to confirm that in our system as well. I’ve gone ahead and noted this thread to the ticket so it continues to be on our radar, but I would also suggest heading over to the feature request forum and adding your vote–that will provide you with updates on the development as progress is made and is the best way to stay in the loop with what’s happening.

So sorry to not have more of a concrete solution for you here, but does this at least help? Please let me know and I’d be happy to answer any follow-up questions you might have about the ability for Community Events visitors to view and edit their past events.

    Thanks!

Hi Gwyneth and welcome back to the forums!

Good question. First off, I would make sure that you are using the “Default Events Template” in the Events > Settings > Display screen. The calendar is full-width by default so making sure you’re using the default template will help there.

Otherwise, you can use a template override to modify the Venue layout. There’s more info on template overrides in our Themer’s Guide, but it boils down to this:

    • Make a copy of the single-venue.php file. It is located in /plugins/events-pro/views/single-venue.php.
    • Make a new folder in your theme directory called tribe-events
    • Make a new folder in that one called pro
    • Drop the copied single-venue.php file in that last folder

Now that the template is in your theme, you can change it up to suit your needs. In this case, feel free to drop in any registered sidebar from your theme.

Does this help answer your question? Please let me know. 🙂

    Cheers!

Hey Bud and sorry for the trouble here!

Would it be possible to get some more information? For example, is there a link where we can see the issue? Also, have you made any customizations to the calendar, such as template overrides or functions?

It would also be great if you could include your system information here (feel free to mark the reply as private), which you can get by heading to Events > Settings > Help at the bottom of the screen.

    Thanks!

Thanks a ton, Giles! Sorry this is still an issue.

The next thing I would like to try here is creating a fresh test site–this will avoid any disruption to your live site and ensure that we’ve effectively got a “clean canvas” to work with.

    • Please install a fresh copy of WordPress in a subdirectory (if you have cPanel hosting account there will probably be a one-click install to make this really easy)
    • Don’t install anything except The Events Calendar and Events Calendar PRO
    • Please also stick to a default theme like Twenty Fifteen–again, there’s no need to install anything else just yet!
    • Create a few events so we have some test data to work with
    • Do you still get a 404 page?

If you find you can replicate the problem under these conditions it would be awesome if you could stop and let us know so we can take a look while the site is still running under default conditions.

    Thanks for your help!
