MemberHi Daniel,
Normally that shouldn’t happen.
For some reason – in the case of your site – the title is returned when you navigate from month to month but is missing the actual site name.
Looking at your site there are two likely culprits:
- You seem to be running an SEO plugin (WordPress SEO?) … if you temporarily deactivate this, do the titles behave as expected?
- It could alternatively be that your theme has some title-specific logic that is tripping things up – if the first step doesn’t reveal anything, can you try switching, temporarily, to a default theme and see if that helps?
If neither of the above provide any useful information it may then be worth running through our complete troubleshooting steps, but let’s start with some lighter troubleshooting as detailed above first of all π
Let me know how you get on!

MemberHi Wayne,
I’m sorry you’ve hit up against some difficulties, here.
So did you create the tickets when WPML was activated? If you now create some fresh tickets – without WPML being active – do you find it works as expected?
Unfortunately there are some compatibility issues with WPML owing to the way that plugin functions.

MemberThanks Simon,
I appreciate you taking the time to do that. Here’s my hypothesis: your theme probably contains code that tries to access functionality from Events Calendar PRO or The Events Calendar, or both.
During the update process WordPress temporarily deactivates plugins; sometimes there is a glitch and if code from, say, your theme tries to access code from the deactivated plugins it can crash the site.
Did you add any tweaks or snippets to your theme’s functions.php file in relation to our plugins – or might it even have shipped complete with various customizations?
What I’d suggest here is now renaming the theme directory, ie from soundboard to __soundboard – this will forcibly deactivate it and a default theme should then be used in its place. That ought to allow you to login to the admin environment and re-enable our plugins – from there you can re-enable your theme of choice (you would probably wish to rename it before doing so, though strictly speaking that isn’t necessary).
Does that help here?

MemberHi Brent,
That’s definitely a good call and we do appreciate you letting us know about it.
The thing is that once a site is hacked almost any component could be targeted and – in this case – it may be that they are not actually targeting The Events Calendar specifically but, instead, are doing something more general — such as targeting the start of the content loop, but only from within ajax requests.
If that was the case then it may just be bad luck, in a sense, that our plugin is the only component of your site implementing a loop that returns content via ajax (we use ajax when you page forwards/backwards in month and list view, etc).
With that said, we of course take security issues seriously and if you or anyone you engage to help with this problem discover any clear signs that vulnerabilities in The Events Calendar led to this we would of course be grateful if you could keep us in the loop.
Since security issues by their nature are sensitive topics, we’d appreciate it if you used our private replies facility here in the forum or else you can reach us by email:
support (at) theeventscalendar (dot) com
Thanks again for keeping us informed.

MemberI see what you’re getting at there James – but I’m afraid it just doesn’t work that way.
The Facebook Importer cannot function unless it is loaded within the WordPress environment: when wp-cron.php is run, WordPress is loaded and it can then do it’s job.
Something strange is clearly happening in your case – but it doesn’t generally make sense to have a standalone file for this kind of work.

MemberHi Karen,
I’m afraid progress on this issue has been delayed due to other more urgently needed fixes and improvements taking priority.
I’ll definitely update the bug report with a note that customers like yourself are awaiting its release, though, to help ensure it doesn’t slip back any further.
Apologies for the delay.

MemberHi Simon,
I’m sorry you’ve experienced difficulties following the update.
That’s a particularly odd problem since Tribe_Template_Factory is actually a part of our core plugin (The Events Calendar) and Events Calendar PRO – which is where the problem is surfacing – shouldn’t run unless The Events Calendar is also installed and activated.
I wonder if some files were corrupted or something went wrong in the update process?
Can you:
- Confirm which versions of our plugins are currently installed on your site?
- Let me know if it is just the frontend of the site which is breaking, or if you are also “locked out” of the admin environment
- Try renaming the events-calendar-pro plugin directory – temporarily – to __events-calendar-pro (this, effectively, should deactivate it) … is your site accessible now or do you see a new but different error (what is that error if so)?
Ultimately, deleting and uploading fresh copies of our plugins manually may be necessary here, unless the problem actually originates from another plugin or custom theme code, or something of that nature.
if you can explore some of the options outlined above and let me know how you get on, though, that would be a great start π

MemberHi Stuart,
Great question!
Check out our Community Events plugin which sounds like it will meet your needs here π
Does that help?
Barry
MemberHi Chris,
It’s worth bearing in mind that .po files are “human-friendly” but need to be compiled into .mo files before WordPress can understand them.
Just for the avoidance of doubt, were you able to complete that step? A general overview (not specific to our own plugins, but the basic principles still apply, can be found here).
Does that help?

MemberHi Jonas,
Great question!
This is actually something we are currently reviewing, but right now we would generally ask that you buy the appropriate license according to the number of sites you will be using our plugins on.
So, if that is just one site (that happens to be part of a multisite network) a personal license is fine – but if you will be deploying our plugins on multiple sites – whether independent or part of a network – a developer or business license should be used.
With regards to dev sites, we generally don’t require or expect you to have a license in place (though if you wish to receive and test automated updates in your dev environment a license key would then be required – generally that’s not something most people need however).
Does that answer your questions?
Barry
MemberHi Jon:
Yes – you would need one of our ticketing addons if you want to sell tickets from your own site π

MemberHi bamdesign,
It’s never nice to be hacked and I think the best thing you can do initially is read through the advice provided here:
codex.wordpress.org/FAQ_My_site_was_hacked
This is understandably an upsetting thing to happen, but please keep in mind that while one area where these adverts surface is in an events view it is not necessarily the case that your site was compromised because of our plugins.
If you have a recent backup taken from a point where you know this problem did not exist then it may be worth reverting to that.

MemberHi Claudia,
Great questions!
Since I canβt update the plugin automatically (I think this feature doesnβt work on my site for whatever reason) I was just wondering how I should go about updating the plugin.
A safe strategy you can use as is follows:
- Download the latest copy of the plugin (Events Calendar PRO) to your computer
- Backup! This is purely a precaution, but a sensible one – remember to ensure you also know how to restore the backup in case of an actual failure
- Optionally use a maintenance mode plugin and temporarily place the site in maintenance mode
- Deactivate and delete the plugin you wish to update (in this case, Events Calendar PRO)
- Upload the new version either manually via FTP (in which case you might prefer to unzip it first of all) or via WordPress’s plugin upload screen
- Activate it and remove maintenance mode (if you had enabled it)
My biggest concern is obviously accidentally deleting all of my events (our site relies heavily on the plugin since we are mainly an events site).
Again, the surest way to protected yourself is to make regular backups, however deactivating and even deleting the plugin won’t actually cause the event data to be removed – it should remain intact within the database.
I installed a plugin that monitors usage of plugins and Events Calendar Pro is very high up there.
Please do remember that we try hard to stick to one issue per forum topic, simply to avoid confusion and to make it easier to deliver fair and fast service to all of our customers π
There are lots of variables that can impact performance and we’re always looking for ways to make things more efficient (in fact, a few performance tweaks ought to ship in our next major release) but one thing we’ve been trying is this experimental plugin.
If you want to try installing and activating it (simply deactivate and remove if you find it doesn’t help or causes problems) that may assist in improving performance. If you have further questions or concerns unrelated to updating, though, I would ask you post them in a fresh topic.
I hope that helps!
Barry
MemberHi Jos,
The official name of our “pro” addon is actually Events Calendar PRO which is why the plugin slug is a little different from that used for The Events Calendar.
For consistency and to enable a smooth upgrade experience for existing users, I’m not sure we’re likely to change the deafult directory name at this point (though if you feel strongly about it you are welcome to post a request on our UserVoice page – this would help us to discover if others also have strong feelings about this).
At any rate, I’m glad you were able to locate the translation.
Thanks again (and I’ll now close this topic – but please don’t hesitate to create new ones as needed if any other issues arise) π
