    Hi there,
Since I can’t update the plugin automatically (I think this feature doesn’t work on my site for whatever reason) I was just wondering how I should go about updating the plugin. Do I just upload the latest version of Events Calendar Pro and then once it’s on the site delete the old version? My biggest concern is obviously accidentally deleting all of my events (our site relies heavily on the plugin since we are mainly an events site).

Also, I have had a lot of issue with my host lately about high resource point usage (I even had to upgrade my site to VPS account which is crazy because we don’t even have more than 250 visitors a day!). I installed a plugin that monitors usage of plugins and Events Calendar Pro is very high up there. Is there a way to change that? I only have recurring events scheduled until the end of the year in order not to use up too much space (by having them run into infinity) but is there anything else I should do? Should I archive old events? Or is this all not even a reason for high resource point usage?

    Thanks so much!!
    Claudia

    Hi Claudia,

    Great questions!

Since I can’t update the plugin automatically (I think this feature doesn’t work on my site for whatever reason) I was just wondering how I should go about updating the plugin.

A safe strategy you can use as is follows:

    • Download the latest copy of the plugin (Events Calendar PRO) to your computer
    • Backup! This is purely a precaution, but a sensible one – remember to ensure you also know how to restore the backup in case of an actual failure
    • Optionally use a maintenance mode plugin and temporarily place the site in maintenance mode
    • Deactivate and delete the plugin you wish to update (in this case, Events Calendar PRO)
    • Upload the new version either manually via FTP (in which case you might prefer to unzip it first of all) or via WordPress’s plugin upload screen
    • Activate it and remove maintenance mode (if you had enabled it)

My biggest concern is obviously accidentally deleting all of my events (our site relies heavily on the plugin since we are mainly an events site).

Again, the surest way to protected yourself is to make regular backups, however deactivating and even deleting the plugin won’t actually cause the event data to be removed – it should remain intact within the database.

I installed a plugin that monitors usage of plugins and Events Calendar Pro is very high up there.

Please do remember that we try hard to stick to one issue per forum topic, simply to avoid confusion and to make it easier to deliver fair and fast service to all of our customers 🙂

There are lots of variables that can impact performance and we’re always looking for ways to make things more efficient (in fact, a few performance tweaks ought to ship in our next major release) but one thing we’ve been trying is this experimental plugin.

If you want to try installing and activating it (simply deactivate and remove if you find it doesn’t help or causes problems) that may assist in improving performance. If you have further questions or concerns unrelated to updating, though, I would ask you post them in a fresh topic.

    I hope that helps!
