Hey Tony: I see you never heard back from Henry on the first issue (haven’t seen him on the forums in a while, now that I think about it)…but to answer your second question…this MAY be doable but would definitely require some customization on your end.

It might be easier to wait until we’ve got our own geo tagging functionality (which is on the radar but still a ways out) deployed to integrate something like this. You’re welcome to give it a go in the interim, and can ask any questions you may have along the way, but sadly we probably won’t be able to provide much more than attempts to point you in the right direction.

Hope that helps and sorry I couldn’t offer up more. Let us know if you need anything else here.

Thanks for the follow-up, Tyler. As I mentioned on Twitter I will get our developer Jonah to take a look here today and see if he can point you towards what has to be done. No guarantees since I’m not 100% it’s possible exactly like you want it…but we’ll do our best.

On the philosophy regarding the widgets: the Next Event widget and the Mini Calendar widget are both plugins that were launched in 2.0 and by no means were considered 100% finished products; we just wanted to get them out there and will continue to modify them as we move into 2.1, 2.2 etc. Yours is actually the second request we’ve seen come through requesting inclusion of a description/excerpt in any of the widgets (the first user – https://theeventscalendar.com/support/forums/topic/startdate-and-desc-in-one-line-events-list-advanced-widget/ – seemed to be fine with the solution Jonah offered up on the template override side). So up until now there hasn’t really been much demand for it. That being said I could see the value for including such an option, assuming we could find a way to make it work fairly flexibly across a number of themes, if Jonah comes back and says its doable.

Hi, Tyler – thanks for the follow-up. I suspect this was the thread you were referencing when you called us the “worst support in the world” on Twitter today.

Our general philosophy on the plugin, just so you’re aware and understand how we run support: we provide users a solid, fully functional plugin directly out of the box that we know for a fact works flawlessly in the flexible default 2011 theme. Beyond that – through our template tag documentation (at https://theeventscalendar.com/support/documentation ) and resources like the themer’s guide Joyce linked to above – we try our best to provide users with the tools they’ll need to succeed when using the plugin, so they can modify and integrate it as they see fit. If they have questions or get stuck along the way we are happy to point them in the direction best we can here on the forums…but we’re sadly unable to build user’s sites for them, or spend more than 15 minutes looking into a specific customization, in the interest of ensuring everyone gets a fair share of our limited support bandwidth. We hope that our users will either come into this with the basic WordPress development knowledge they’ll need to modify the plugin to meet their needs, or have access to a developer they can work with independently to get it done.

It’s of course also worth noting that the forums you mentioned – Thesis or Genesis – are theme-specific, not for plugins. It’s reasonable to me that theme forums are a more appropriate place for customization discussions as largely users are customizing the theme in some capacity to begin with.

In either case…while I think it’s a bit dramatic to say “worst support in the world” when it’s obvious by reviewing this thread that Joyce (and Zoe) were timely/helpful in getting you responses here, I’m sorry we let you down. If you think a refund is fair I’d be happy to process one for you. Just shoot an email over to pro /a/ tri.be.

Hi again Jaeden. If this issue does persist, I’ve gotten our dev to offer up some insights: it would appear you have some plugin (or something) that is changing the styling of the Not-a-spammer checkbox (replacing it, in fact); if you look at the HTML (http://f.paulhugh.es/HJXw), note that the checkbox is offset to the left by 10000 pixels. Apparently, it would seem, the js is not properly submitting a checked checkbox now (it isn’t getting sent as part of the POST request—we checked).

From what we can tell, this is almost definitely the problem. Can you give it a look and let us know?

Hi Kathleen. Thanks for the note. To start, regarding that warning message: you can ignore it. It’s wrong, and is something we’ve got on the radar to strip out for the next release – come 2.0.8 it will not be an issue anymore. In the interim, so long as you’re running 2.0.7 for both The Events Calendar and Events Calendar PRO, you’ll be fine.

Regarding the WP Router Placeholder page. Have you updated to 1.0.1.1, or are you still running 1.0.1? The 1.0.1.1 release – which just came out earlier this week – seems to have patched the issue for most (but not all) of the users we’ve heard from so far. I see you’ve posted this over in the other thread (https://theeventscalendar.com/support/forums/topic/wp-router-placeholder-page/page/2/) so I’m going to continue responding over there and close this one down…but if you can confirm there that you have updated to the new build we can proceed appropriately.

Thanks for your support and patience so far.

Hey Mike. Thanks for the heads up here, and sorry that you’re having problems. I am working with another user who has reported a similar issue after installing 2.0.7…and so while I’m unable to recreate it myself, it is possible there’s a bug introduced.

Have you checked whether this is a conflict with another plugin or the theme? Testing this is easy; just deactivate other plugins one-by-one and, if the issue persists with just The Events Calendar + PRO active, revert to the default 2011 theme. That will let us see whether this is a conflict of some kind. You should also try changing your permalinks to a structure like /%postname%/ and resaving from there.

If the issue persists…can you give me the specific criteria for the event you created? Here’s what I used for my attempt to recreate (http://d.pr/i/h4o6) and it worked fine. It’s possible the issue is specific to the event details, though, so if I can recreate yours exactly that may shed some light in it. Let’s try the deactivation route before this, though. We’ll do what we can on our end to assist.

Hey Matthew. Thanks for the note here; I have seen a couple reports of issues related to this since we launched 2.0.7 so it’s definitely possible that something is up – though I am unable to recreate it on my default 2011 theme (which is the latest default theme WP offers me in 3.4).

What happens if you enable a pretty permalinks structure, like /%postname%/ ? My guess is that will resolve this issue (we’re aware that default permalinks cause some problems and will have that fixed for 2.1), but if not I can bring a dev in to take a look directly. Thanks for your patience so far.

Thanks for bearing with us on this, Doug. Glad to hear you got it figured out. Point taken on the feedback side – that’s a solid suggestion. Joyce (who is new and just getting up to speed on how things work around here) and myself are more non-technical support folks, but when we do have a dev-related issue — such as if this had persisted beyond your last comment — we’d have brought a dev in to offer up more specific guidance to your install.

If you have anything else come up down the road, let us know and we’ll get you feedback in the style that works best for you. Thanks for your support so far.

Hey there Anthony. Thanks for the follow-up on this; I am definitely seeing the issue on your end (though of course, as seems to often be the case with these odd bugs, I cannot recreate it on my end).

I tried logging into the backend with the set of credentials you’d provided us in the past, and they have since expired. Any chance you can answer a couple questions for me accordingly? Specifically, related to the plugin versions: can you confirm you’re running 2.0.7 of both versions of the plugin? I’ve seen this particular problem when the versions are out of sync, but let me know if that’s not the issue you’re experiencing here.

Please also try switching to another template under Settings -> The Events Calendar -> Templates. From there, if you’re still having problems, re-activate or generate a new set of admin creds and send them to pro /a/ tri.be (with a link referencing this thread) so we can check out your configuration and try to recreate it exactly.

Thanks in advance, and for your patience so far.

Thanks for the heads up, Anthony – sorry to hear you’re having a problem here. I see you also posted this as another thread (https://theeventscalendar.com/support/forums/topic/problem-with-2-0-7-upgrade-posts-showing-multiple-times-but-only-entered-once/) so I’m going to respond over there. Thanks for your patience so far.

Hey there Alan. Thanks for reaching out here. My experience in this is somewhat limited, but personally (for small, non-high traffic sites) I’ve used Laughing Squid (http://laughingsquid.us/) and found them to be pretty reliable. As a broader company, we’re also partial to Page.ly (http://page.ly/) and are huge fans of their philosophy and dedication to superior customer support.

That help? Let me know if not and I can adjust the response for you.

Hey there Mac. Thanks for reaching out here. You can always pull in what venue-related data is controllable via the offerings on our documentation page ( https://theeventscalendar.com/support/documentation ), but a dedicated frontend page that just lists all venues (ie /events/venues, or just /venues) does not currently exist.

That being said…we have had a few requests for this, and it came up on our first round of usability testing last week too, so I suspect we’ll be adding something like this sooner rather than later. No guarantees but I’d say to watch for it in the 2.1 lifecycle of the plugin, the first release of which should be out this summer.

Cheers and sorry I couldn’t offer up more in the short-term. If you need anything else please let me know.

Awesome to hear this did the trick for you, Steve! Thanks for confirming as much.

Magezi: any luck on your end? Let us know if so and we’ll close this thread out accordingly.

Ah, gotcha. Thanks for confirming. I’m pretty sure you’re correct as to the degree of difficulty here but let me get Jonah to give it a quick review just to be safe.

Hey Tony. Not sure about this myself, but Jonah might know. I’ve added this to his pile to take a look at today. Stay tuned on that end…
