MemberThanks a ton, Adam! I really appreciate the access to the site. 🙂
Wow, 11,000 events is definitely a lot but not out of the realm for what a good host can cover.
First off, were you able to deactivate that shortcode plugin? That’s the first thing I would suggest hitting before we go any deeper.
Next, I do see you are running a lot of plugins that do various things. I hate to point fingers at other plugins (and am not intending to do that here) though having lots of processes run together in addition to a large load of events can certainly bog down a host, particular one that might be on a shared hosting plan rather than a dedicated server.
Are you on a shared server? If so, it’s very possible that the amount of resources being used in the environment is simply too great for a typical shared host. I think the fact that we hit that fatal error over memory issues earlier suggests that the load is already close to the host’s breaking point.
If deactivating the shortcode plugin has no effect, then I’ll want to explore some memory-saving ideas with you–and if none of those do the trick, then I unfortunately think we’re looking at other hosting plans. But let’s start here before we go that route.
Thanks!

MemberSure! I believe any of the social sharing plugins mentioned in the article will work well for you. If you asked me which one I lean toward, that might be Jetpack Sharing.
I think it will be tough to match the exact style of the plugin you were already using just because plugins are different in nature, but this will certainly get you the social sharing functionality you are looking for and will look good on all screen sizes.
Cheers!

MemberThanks for the screenshot and for setting up the new event!
I notice that the archive for a recurring event seems to produce a 404 error. For example, clicking the “See All” link for the new event you created goes to a Page Not Found:Â http://www.tustnail.no/event/trening-knotter-og-miniputt-2/all/
One thing I like to try anytime we see 404 errors is going through the suggestions outlined here. This resolves most of the 404-related issues we see so it’s definitely worth a shot in this case as well.
In the meantime, it would also be great for you to try these troubleshooting steps and let me know what you find.
Were you able to do these as well? If so, what was the outcome when you switched to a default WordPress theme and deactivated all other plugins? Did you notice a difference there? I ask because I haven’t been able to replicate the same issue on my test site while using the Twenty Fifteen theme and no other installed plugins, so I want to see if that is the case for you too.
Thanks!

MemberHi Adam,
Man, I’m so sorry for the continued trouble here. Let’s keep digging in to see what we can do to fix this!
I see you mentioned this plugin:Â The Events Calendar Shortcode
That is actually not one of our plugins. Is it possible that deactivating that has any positive impact on the performance? I ask because some third-party developers will attempt to build extensions for our plugins (which is great!) but sometimes they do not keep up with the current codebase of the latest versions, which could certainly cause conflicts and problems like the ones we’re seeing.
Also, how many events are published–do you have a handful or are we looking at thousands? Just want to get a gauge of the load. If you have a link you are able to share where we can view the calendar, that would be helpful as well. It currently looks like that page is inaccessible.
Thanks for your patience here while we work on this with you!

MemberHi Stoney and sorry for the trouble here!
Are you able to confirm the versions you’re using for the following plugins:
- The Events Calendar
- Eventbrite Tickets
It would also be great if you could paste your system information here (as a private reply). That can be found at Events > Settings > Help at the bottom of the screen.
Let’s start there and see what we find.
Thanks!

MemberHello @a1goodlifecal and thanks for reaching out.
First off, kudos for solving the conflict!
Grabbing the URL for categories follows this format:
[your-site]/[events-slug]/category/[category-slug]
So, for example, a category on your site might look like this:
http://www.goodlifenh.org/activities/category/%5Bcategory-slug%5D
Will this work for you? Please let me know. 🙂
Thanks!

MemberHey Adam, thanks for following up!
I’m glad to hear the licensing issue has smoothed out–nice work.
Are you able to allocate more memory to PHP on your server? Check out this codex article, which will show you how to increase the memory allocated to PHP/WordPress on your site. If that still doesn’t resolve the issue, then I would recommend reaching out to your hosting provider and seeing if they can help you to increase the memory allocated to PHP on your install.
It would also be helpful if you could paste your system info in here as well (as a private reply) in case we can see any other red flags. You can find that in Events > Settings > Help at the bottom of the screen.
Thanks!

MemberHello Kat! Thanks a ton for checking out The Events Calendar. 🙂
That’s an excellent question. We actually started work on a RSVP feature just this week and, while I don’t have a specific timeframe for it to be released, you can track the progress of it here on our feature request forum.
In the meantime, I’m afraid that a check-in or RSVP feature isn’t possible right out of the box just yet. Sorry about that!
Feel free to let me know if you have any other questions here and I’d be happy to help. 🙂

MemberHello Damian and thanks for getting in touch!
Yes, The Events Calendar PRO does indeed include a number of shortcodes that allow you to embed the calendar into pages and posts. You can see a complete overview of those here.
I do want to note that the shortcodes are specifically for event widgets and not full calendar views. If you’re looking for full calendar views, you may also want to check out the Event Rocket plugin, which offers some shortcodes for that and works with The Events Calendar.
Will this work for you? Please let me know if you have any other questions here and I’d be happy to help. 🙂
Cheers!

MemberHey there, Filip! Just wanted to follow-up with you here since Brian is out on vacation this week and make sure this thread keeps moving.
When you say “first” loop, do you mean that you have more than one query for events on the page? That’s fine, but you can also add those category exclusion parameters from the snippet you referenced above directly into the query you’ve been working on here with Brian.
Here’s an example of how to exclude specific categories from an event query using a filter. Note that the example does this specifically for Month and List views, but those conditions can be taken out, if needed.
Cheers!

MemberHi Leland and thanks for getting in touch!
Excellent question and I’m stoked to hear you’re giving The Events Calendar a look. 🙂
Yes, the free version of The Events Calendar will provide the framework you need to display a great-looking calendar right out of the box. Then, we offer an iCal Importer add-on for it that does exactly what you’re looking for, which is import events directly from a Google Calendar account. It can even import those events from Google Calendar on an automatic, timed frequency so you never have to touch a thing.
In fact, here’s an article that walks through that process so you can get an idea for how that works.
Does this help answer your questions? Please let me know if you have any follow-up questions here and I’d be happy to help. 🙂
Cheers!

MemberHi Adam and thanks for getting in touch!
Sorry for the trouble here. The good news is that The Events Calendar (and all add-ons) will continue to function properly without the license key–you should be good on that end. 🙂
Moving the license key from staging to production can be a little confusing but can ultimately be accomplished by:
- Delete the license key from your staging site under Events > Settings > Licenses
- Log into your account on this site
- Head to My Account > License Keys
- Click the “Disconnect” link next to the URL for each license key
- Enter the license key into your production site under Events > Settings > Licenses
- Make sure the licenses have been connected in your account
These steps are outlined in greater detail here in this article which I would also suggest reading before running through these steps.
Will that work for you? Please let me know.
Cheers!

MemberHey and thanks for following up! I appreciate the extras details. 🙂
What happens when you publish a new recurring event? Does that show all the instances on the calendar correctly? It sounds like something could have happened while that first recurring event was “paused” and I want to make sure that the issue is isolated to just that recurring event and not any others.
Let’s start there and see what we find. If the issue affects the new recurring event, then we can do some deeper troubleshooting.
Thanks!
GeoffGeoff
MemberAwesome! Thanks for sticking with me there and for letting us know about the issue with the tutorial in the first place. I really appreciate that.
We’ll see you in the next thread. 🙂
