Hi jeffburns – forum search is a tad limited and we hope to improve that. In the meantime the best we can offer is your forum profile page which lists a number of the topics you have created and participated in (this is the same link as you would follow if you clicked on your username in your above post).

We do feel your pain, though, we too would love better search facilities and as soon as we are able to we’ll certainly get something in place.

On a regular installation if I set up a new subscriber-role user then upon logging in I cannot see the Events menu (if that’s what you mean) within the admin/dashboard environment – so, if that’s the problem, then it sounds like something peculiar to your installation and the way you have configured things.

I’m not at all familiar with Adminimize so I can’t provide much help here, I’m afraid, but certainly you need to be careful if you edit the capabilities of various user roles.

I could be misunderstanding the problem you have described – but if I disable month view and make list view (for example) my default view then the Events List widget correctly links to it.

Is that not what you are experiencing/are you describing something else?

Hi richardbarrow, that’s certainly a popular request and one we are aware of – what I’d encourage you to do is add your voice to this feature request (or even create a new one if you can’t find it) over on UserVoice page, simply because that gives us a good metric as to how much demand there is.

You’re right – there is no means of doing this using the settings screens alone. What you’d really need to do is set up a customization of your own: one approach (just as an example) could be to use the Default Page Template and add some code to check if the request is for an events page and then load a different template from there.

You could do something similar with hooks/filters, too, if you are confident working with them.

Does that give you any ideas to work with, here?

Can you share your system information as provided in the Events > Help admin screen?

Can you also confirm if you were able to try deactivating all other plugins and reverting to a default, unmodified theme such as Twenty Twelve in order to check and see if this might be caused by a conflict?

If I’m understanding you correctly then yes, I would think that is very much a possibility. That said, it is also a customization of the sort we can’t really help you with, beyond referring you to our Themer’s Guide and technical docs – as much as anything this sort of task really comes down to general WP development skills as you would probably approach this by altering the query with filters just as you might if you needed to alter WordPress’s own main query.

We do wish you luck, though, it’s great to hear of interesting things like this being built on top of The Events Calendar 🙂

It looks fine to me, I’m not sure why it isn’t working for you: if I test the very same code, literally copying and pasting from your version, it works perfectly. Is it at all possible you are editing the wrong functions.php file?

In any case, I’m afraid we’re not going to be able to help much more with this since it still seems like a basically sound approach when I test it out and is also a customization, for which we can really only provide pointers.

If it helps we can give you a list of freelancers/independent developers who might be able to guide you through this and figure out what might be going wrong in the specific case of your installation?
