    Hi!

I appreciate you are up against a deadline here, but we can’t guarantee being able to respond any more quickly than once every 24hrs during the working week, I’m afraid.

Thanks for posting a link to the phpinfo() dump. It looks like both cURL and appropriate streams are enabled and ready to go, so there’s no issue there, but that could simply mean something at a different level is holding things up and the problem is still an environmental one:

But in any case Events works fine here – http://cruxsketchpad2.com/events/. My next question is what to do from here, can someone access my site and take a closer look …

So it seems i just have to unfortunately guess as to if a hosting platform will work or not?

Well, if the above site – where there is no problem – is on a different platform that certainly suggests he problem is restricted to Cloud Sites, or at least your particular installation within that service. You can let me know if that’s wrong or I’m misunderstanding. However, that being the case I could only really suggest you persist with their technical support, consider if Google Maps integration is vital or not (if it’s not, you might consider deactivating map view as an alternative) and/or consider migrating to a platform where there is no problem, such as wherever the above test site is hosted.

I’m sorry we can’t do more, but this doesn’t seem to be a widespread problem by any means and also seems tightly bound to your hosting service.

    Hi Sean,

The filters plugin isn’t available yet so I can’t really comment on that. I suspect this is going to be a custom development task that we’ll really need to leave in your hands, but if you’re specifically interested in rearranging the display of categories in the context of the Community Events submission form I can certainly move this thread across to the relevant forum?

    Cheers!

    Hi!

The event at the URL you provided works just fine for me, I guess because there is currently no image in the event description. If I check out an event that does have an image in the description, on an otherwise clean test site, I find it is pulled into Google Calendar without any errors.

That makes me wonder if this might be specific to your site, especially as we haven’t seen many other reports along these lines. Can you confirm if this still happens if you deactivate all other plugins and revert to a default, unmodified theme?

If it does, can you additionally post your system information (which can be found at the bottom of the Events → Help admin screen)?

    Thanks!

    Thanks for sharing!

(Sorry for the delay in noticing your post, a migration to new support tools unfortunately caused a few issues in detecting new replies.)

Sorry for the delay in responding, first of all.

Between slowing down for the festive period and migrating to some new support tools we unfortunately failed to notice a number of replies – please accept our apologies.

Do you still need help with this and can you link to a live example? I did visit the URL you provided but it doesn’t look like you have an entry for the events page in the menu (and it would be understandable if you had removed it). I do also have to tell you that, generally speaking, Headway is not a theme we can offer a huge amount of support for as it does deviate from the norm in a few ways.

OK, thanks for updating (and sorry for the slowness in replying, between us slowing down for the festive period and migrating to a set of new support tools we have unfortunately missed the replies of a number of customers).

I’ll close this thread since it sounds like the initial issue with Statpress has been resolved and we can continue to help you in your other thread or threads.

    Thanks!

    Hi Yvette,

I need to apologize first of all for the delay in response. We weren’t operating at normal capacity over the festive period and, additionally, have just migrated to a new set of support tools – unfortunately in amongst this I didn’t see that this thread was in need of a further reply.

Can you confirm which versions of the plugin you are currently using? If you haven’t yet updated to our latest releases that could certainly be worth a try.

Apologies for the delay – we just migrated to a new set of support tools and unfortunately that seems to have resulted in some threads not being flagged up as in need of a reply.

I was just wondering if there was a variable or parameter I could change in the code that would allow me to dictate ‘when’ an event gets labeled as “previous”?

The thing is – at least at database level – we don’t append a flag or anything like that to mark events as passed.

That’s simply assessed query-by-query on the basis of the event date fields. I’m sorry to hear none of those options I outlined are going to be feasible for you, but I think really that indicates, for this specific issue – which is really a custom development task – you need a higher level of support that we can realistically provide for you here on the support forum.

We can certainly provide you with a list of suitable freelancers/independent devs if you need someone to work through this with you?

    Hi nakturnal:

There’s not too much more we can add at this point I’m afraid. We’re continuing to progress things and some larger-scale restructuring is planned which is likely to have a positive impact on this, right now though if you are hitting problems relating to query performance then caching and more caching is the way to go.

    # Query_time: 9.778947 Lock_time: 0.000112 Rows_sent: 1 Rows_examined: 950564 Rows_affected: 0 Rows_read: 950564
    … in [hostinginformationhere/wp-content/plugins/events-calendar-pro/lib/tribe-geoloc.class.php:754]

That looks like it is the query used to figure out the approximate geographic centre for your events and can indeed be a comparatively intensive query, depending on your particular dataset. We’re aware of that and try to mitigate its impact by caching the result of the query, which is held for slightly less than 1½ hours before it runs again.

What I would ask though is if you do have further questions that you create a fresh thread – and one of the team will be only too happy to help.

    Thanks!

OK, I see. So taking a look at custom field params within a WordPress query is going to be a good starting point here – but, again, I’m afraid we really need to leave the rest up to you 🙂

    Good luck!

Hi Andreas: just a note that we have this on our tracker however it probably isn’t going to be something we can fit into the next maintenance release. We apologize for any inconvenience that causes – and of course will post back here as and when we progress this issue further.

Thanks for your support and patience.

On a side topic, I’m sorry you couldn’t see the private reply – looks like unfortunately that is another glitch we still need to fix with the new support system.

Essentially though I wanted to convey our sincere apologies about the delay in providing support. If we can make things up to you by offering you a coupon for a future license renewal, or perhaps a complimentary license for one of our other products, please email us at pro (at) tri (dot) be and let us know your preference – if you could also include a link back to this thread so that the person handling emails sees the context of the request that would be awesome.

    Thanks!

Ideally we’d avoid a wholesale migration – but it would be nice to confirm if this was indeed the problem and perhaps tweak the hosting environment to solve things without further disruption.

I’m guessing you have access to support in order to troubleshoot hosting problems (even if WordPress or plugin-specific issues are out of scope) … with that in mind can you enquire and ask if anything is set up that would impede communication with maps.googleapis.com? Our code simply uses the WordPress API to facilitate this (ultimately, behind the scenes, WordPress in turn attempts to use cURL and falls back upon PHP streams to facilitate this).

It’s not impossible that suitable streams are not available and nor is the php5-curl extension – in which case WordPress’s options for communicating with remote APIs would be pretty limited and our own attempts to use Google’s geocoding would consequently fail. If that is the case, though, I would hope they could remedy the situation fairly easily.

Can you relay this to the service provider and see if it results in anything?

    Thanks for your patience.

All of the expected meta data seems to be present with the exception of the longitude and latitude values, which explains what you’re seeing. What we need to figure out is why that isn’t being recorded.

At code level, it seems that one fairly clear possibility is that the system is not able to reach the Google Maps API (or receives an unsatisfactory or no response). It’s possible such a thing could be the result of various restrictions in your hosting environment – and this might also explain why we aren’t seeing widespread reports of this across our user base.

Can you provide any information about your hosting environment (who is the host and what sort of package is it, a regular shared hosting package or self-managed VPS, etc)? Do you have an alternate environment – perhaps even running locally on your own computer – and can you see the same problem there?

    Thanks!
