MemberHi – I’m sorry you are experiencing problems here. I’m not sure I can reproduce this, though. Starting with our regular troubleshooting steps is going to be worth a shot if you haven’t already done so (that is, deactivate all other plugins and switch to a default, unmodified theme – then see if the same thing still happens). That aside, I wonder if you have inadvertently populated some of the Default Content fields relating to venues (in the Default Content settings screen)?
Even if they appear to be blank, please double check to ensure they don’t contain whitespace.
Does that help/get us closer to finding out why this is happening?

MemberIt’s not supported by default, but I see no reason you couldn’t customize things. Check out the following support resources:
You may also be interested in this plugin http://wordpress.org/plugins/social-venues-for-events-calendar-pro/ (it’s not made or supported by us) – though it relates to venues it’s not impossible that you could repurpose it and use it for organizers.
I hope that helps 🙂

MemberHi!
No, you don’t need PRO to use WooCommerce Tickets – I wonder though if your WooCommerce storefront has been setup correctly? When you activated WooCommerce did you run through its installation steps? I notice that (even if you remove the wootickets_process=1 element of the URL) the cart page returns a 404 not found error which suggests it may not have been created.
What I’d recommend first of all is ensuring that all basic WooCommerce operations work as expected: you might even try creating a test product (one that is nothing to do with events or tickets) and try adding it to the cart to see if everything is in order on that front.
Does that help?

MemberOliver: we can’t promise an immediate turnaround on this, but we do actually have an issue in progress (a colleague just made me aware of it after discussing this thread) and so the ability to easily mark fields as required will hopefully be available in a future release.
allow me one question: does it make sense to create an event without an venue?
Yes, in some situations – such as virtual or online events or where the venue is a given – and forcing people to specify it would be undesirable in those cases.
Kingconga: thanks for the feedback. Feature requests do indeed belong over here, so if you have a moment and want to post something please do feel free. We definitely appreciate your frustration but yes, this forum definitely is very much in school of ‘point you in the right direction’.
With that said, above and beyond any feature requests that are specific to Community Events, we are conscious of the fact that our documentation and tutorial resources could benefit from some further attention. We are already making strides toward improving things there, but it is not a short term project and we can only really ask you to bear with us – because we are listening and we are keen to meet the needs of our customer base.
I don’t think there’s too much more we can do here in this thread and I’ll go ahead and close it – but if we can assist with anything else please don’t hesitate to create new threads as needed.

MemberIf you update the plugin manually – essentially, uploading the new version over the top of the old – that should do the trick (ideally, put the site into maintenance mode using a suitable plugin and of course make a backup before doing so, just to be safe).
Typically, settings are not lost during this process.
Does that help here?

MemberI am surprised about the inability to remove recurrence. That seems like a needed feature for those who set up an event by accident or want to discontinue a group.
It’s not an explicit option, certainly, but you could probably workaround it by altering the recurrence end date – that apart, please do feel free to post this and anything else you think will improve the product as a feature request – we’re always looking out for great new ideas 🙂
i need my home page, so I have to keep permalinks simple.
This is the most puzzling part of the picture, for me. While I can see the bug with default permalinks I can’t replicate this issue (with the infinite loop) … so my suspicion is that is specific to your environment yet I’m guessing the troubleshooting steps where you took everything back to basics with no other plugins/only a default theme didn’t resolve this specific issue, either?
We’ll certainly get on top of the default permalinks/recurring events issue as fast as we can.
Barry
MemberI have to say I’m really puzzled.
It looks like the site is still in development and masked from the general public – is that correct? If so could you deactivate all other plugins and revert to Twenty Twelve, as you did before, and set up the widget in the sidebar then post here so we can take a look under those conditions?
Barry
MemberThat’s a lot of data!
Certainly it looks like most of the duplicates in the XML are legitimate: recurring event instances for example may look like duplicate posts (and in a sense, they are, since they are initially created almost as carbon copies of the original event) but one telltale is that they have a post_parent property set to a non-zero value – ie, the ID of the original event.
I’m not honestly sure why you’re facing this problem – however I definitely can see the same thing if I try to import it locally and suspect some legacy code is at work here (rather than individual posts being created per event, it seems like recurring event instance post meta data is being created as would have been the case pre-3.5).
We’re going to have to look into this as this is potentially a bug that is triggered when importing recurring events.
How many base events do you have (not counting recurring instances)? The export data suggests not too many (albeit there are many instances) but it’s hard to know if that might be the result of a different or related problem … what I’m wondering, though, is that if you are going to be unable to import/export via WordPress’s own tools perhaps the fastest path to recovery is going to be to manually recreate the events?

MemberOK – unless I’m misreading there is still at least one potentially large difference, in that the themes are not the same. From the live site info you just posted:
THEME
Flavor- VMSIn the test site info (also from your most recent post) I see:
THEME
FlavorI’m not sure what the actual difference between those might be but clearly there are some differences here and that could be throwing this process off track to a degree.
What I was hoping was to see if by introducing exactly the same stack of plugins/themes in the test site the same problem would occur there, too. It might not be practical to follow that path and I can totally appreciate that – at the same time, this is not a widespread problem that many in the community are facing and I think we may be running out of avenues to explore here.
One final route we might look at is creating a fresh installation in the same environment as the live site (unless you can repurpose your test site for this, but I’m guessing you will want those to remain separate) – build the new site up so it has the same stack of plugins and theme and, assuming as with the test site the same problem doesn’t occur there, start pulling across the data via WordPress and its import/export tools.
Would that be viable? Regrettably, I’m not sure there is much more we can put forward here.

MemberDid you test that code you just posted?
Yes – I tested the code that I posted.
As I state – with Yoast SEO installed your code only works for “Map View” (writing out “Map View” as browser window title) and not for “List View” or “Week View”
I tend to think that perhaps it would be more accurate to state that in the context of your installation and with the very same theme, plugins and an identical set of data and settings, it behaves in the manner you’ve detailed.
- Using the latest builds of our plugins currently available – plus WordPress SEO 1.5.2.6 by Joost de Valk and with the Twenty Thirteen theme activated – I find it behaves as I have already described, in the context of my own installation
- It might behave differently for you, depending on what you have activated and what settings are in place
- If it doesn’t meet your needs you’re going to have to research why it behaves the way it does (within the unique context of your own installation) and adapt it appropriately, we can’t step in and troubleshoot this for you
Lars: you want to use our plugins and WordPress SEO by Yoast, that’s great and there’s no reason not to – especially as you already are aware of some of the filters you can use and so you’re part of the way there. I’m afraid the rest is up to you.
Good luck!
Barry
MemberHi Lars,
Thanks for your update.
I think it’s important to note that if you want to integrate two different plugins – ie ours and one made by a different vendor – then that is a responsibility you are taking on.
With or without that plugin, this code behaves exactly as I would expect:
add_filter( 'wp_title', 'filter_events_title' ); function filter_events_title( $title ) { $list = tribe_is_list_view(); $map = tribe_is_map(); $week = tribe_is_week(); if ( $list ) $title = ' LIST VIEW! '; elseif ( $map ) $title = ' MAP VIEW! '; elseif ( $week ) $title = ' WEEK VIEW! '; return $title; }If for whatever reason you need to change the hook to wpseo_title (and what you are describing sounds to me like a result of an ajax refresh on the map view page) then you need to also engage and make use of the wp_title hook accordingly.
These are quite simply integration issues, though, and though you are more than welcome to post any workarounds you find and ask for a pointer in the right direction I would like to make it clear that they do not represent bugs as such.

MemberWe can certainly leave this open and see if any other members of the community can pitch in with advice – beyond that, why not post this as a feature request?
Barry
MemberNot that I know of – and it works for me with a default theme and no other customizations.
Can you confirm if you’ve made any other changes that might impact on this? Where did you add the code?
Barry
MemberThat thread is admittedly pretty old – but why not give it a go and see how you get on 🙂
Please do also consider posting this as a feature request, that way we might (unless there is a reason not to) bake this in to a future release.
