Participanthey everyone
Just installed EC and PRO, created a reaccuring event, now I have a problem. If i enable “pretty” permalinks, my front page becomes an infinite loop and won’t load, probably due to the standard “event” and “events” permalink being a duplicate of another one, that’s all I can think of. i tried to change them to “cpevent” and “cpevents” but it did not help. i removed pretty permalinks, but now the calendar shows but the 140+ events that i created (1 plus weekly instances) do not work. Not sure how to change their permalinks back to “non-pretty”. Tried refreshing permalinks, no help. Weird.March 31, 2014 at 8:57 pm #125844Barry
MemberI’m sorry you’re hitting problems: that sounds extremely odd – even if you have or had pages or posts that shared your event slugs I wouldn’t quite expect this issue – and isn’t something I recall hearing of before. Can I ask you to try our standard troubleshooting steps here?
- Please ensure you are using the latest versions of our plugins
- Deactivate all other plugins
- Switch to a default, unmodified theme such as Twenty Twelve or Twenty Thirteen
- Does the same issue still occur?
This would be a great indicator as to whether or not there is a conflict with some other component, and even if that isn’t the case that would be worth knowing.
Let us know what you find!

ParticipantTried all the items you asked for. No changes. either i use standard URLs (i.e. page=xxx) and the front page works fine, so does the events list, but not pages for events i created, OR, i use fancy URLs and then the list and individual event pages work fine, but the front page of the site won’t load, says that it’s on a repeating loop.

ParticipantJust created a regular event, and it shows, no problems. the events that break are the recurring ones.

ParticipantAdditional notes from playing around:
1. Once an event is recurring, can not change back to one time, even by removing the info and saving, still shows recurring.
2. Created same exact event but new and non-recurring, and it works fine and shows. If I edit and add recurrence, it no longer works and can’t be reverted back.

MemberThat’s right and (being able to revert a recurring sequence to an individual instance) is not something we have implemented – but if you’d like to request it as a new feature we’re certainly open to ideas 🙂
I can see the issue now with default permalinks and will log that – that is definitely a bug. I am surprised you are entering an infinite loop, though, when using pretty permalinks. I realize you may already have tried this or something very similar, but I’d like to be absolutely sure:
- Can you deactivate all other plugins
- Then switch to a default, unmodified theme
- Then visit the Permalinks Settings screen – set to %postname% and save
- Then try to access a recurring event
- Does it work now?

ParticipantYes, I have. It still does not work. I am surprised about the inability to remove recurrence. That seems like a needed feature for those who set up an event by accident or want to discontinue a group.
So the way it stands right now, i can’t set up recurring events, which is not fantastic, as we do weekly events, on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, that’s a lot of events to add manually. i need my home page, so I have to keep permalinks simple. I hope that the issue is fixed, because as it stands right now, the product is not 100% working for what I need. I paid for it, so I don’t want to switch out, and I really like the interface and the look of the events. If it worked it would be rather perfect. Please let me know if you can when the situation is solved.April 7, 2014 at 7:54 am #128920Barry

It’s not an explicit option, certainly, but you could probably workaround it by altering the recurrence end date – that apart, please do feel free to post this and anything else you think will improve the product as a feature request – we’re always looking out for great new ideas 🙂

This is the most puzzling part of the picture, for me. While I can see the bug with default permalinks I can’t replicate this issue (with the infinite loop) … so my suspicion is that is specific to your environment yet I’m guessing the troubleshooting steps where you took everything back to basics with no other plugins/only a default theme didn’t resolve this specific issue, either?
We’ll certainly get on top of the default permalinks/recurring events issue as fast as we can.
