Featured Calendar: Visit Ulster County
Each month, we feature one of our favorite WordPress calendar examples using The Events Calendar plugins. What’s fun about this is that we find these calendars in all sorts of ways, from social media to nonprofit organizations, to our local towns and neighborhoods.
And this calendar is no exception. In fact, our Product Marketing Manager stumbled upon this gem because it’s in her own town. Visit Ulster County proves itself as an excellent resource for visitors and residents alike of the upstate New York area.
They utilize Events Calendar Pro’s premium features to showcase all of their upcoming events. In particular, the Pro feature of widgets comes in handy when showcasing all of their events. Plus, you’ll find a Community Events submission page as well. This allows site visitors to submit events right from the front end of the website.
Let’s dig in to all that Visit Ulster County has to offer below.
The homepage
Right on the homepage, you’ll find tons of information to help you plan your visit to Ulster County. Whether you are taking a day trip or needing to find overnight accommodations, the homepage will take you directly to where you want to go.
A unique feature of the main navigation is that there is a custom events widget that drops down. This gives you a sneak peek at some of the upcoming events, as well as a link to the main events page, and the Community Events submission page.
The main calendar page
Once you click on “Start Exploring” or on “Events” at the top of the navigation bar, you’re taken to the main events page. They’ve added some flourishes before the calendar, like a callout to “Book Your Stay”, a link to the event submission page, and a description of what to expect in the events.
Scroll down a bit, and you’ll see the full calendar of events in List View.
Each event is accompanied by a photo that describes the event, as well as all of the important information you’ll need to find out about the event.
The single event page
Once you click on any one of the events, you’re taken to the single event page. As you would expect, you’ll see all of the information you need to attend the event, along with the option to add the event to your personal calendar (so you don’t forget about it!), and related events at the bottom of the page.
The community events submission page
We’d be remiss if we didn’t mention the Community Events submission page. It’s such a nice touch for a county website with events. It provides the community itself with the ability to add their own events around town. Plus, it gives the website owners the ability to crowdsource their events.
