MemberJust so you all have a few ideas to start with, I dug through the old Showcase forum at the MDNW site and picked out a few of my favorites. While not all of these sites will be running 2.0 (some still may be on 1.3.3) they’re all good examples of what you can with Events Calendar PRO…and should tide us over until some new submissions come through.
* http://www.theviewareonfire.com/events/ (hey, I’ve heard that band…cool to see they’re using our calendar)
* http://www.wallstreetinstitute.cz/events/ (note the color coded categories!)
* http://www.pendletonwhisky.com/events (looks slick, love the calendar tagline)
* http://www.events-manchester.co.uk/events (real unique, cool approach)
* http://ncmusicfactory.com/events/ (another nice custom integration)
* http://www.exploringlincoln.com/events/ (interesting use of a ‘legend’ on the calendar)
* http://thejoyofsound.com/events/ (just a simple, nice looking calendar)What about you? Is your site ready to be shared yet?

MemberThanks for the notes, guys. To address these:
Blaine – what you’re aiming to do could probably be hacked together, but there’s nothing in the PRO code to allow for it straight out of the box. If you can find a way to get that custom post to display via something like tags, for example, it should work…but I can’t think of another method that won’t require some dev. Having users submit events will be an option with the Community Events add-on that we’re on track to get into beta stage by the end of the month, but until then there’s nothing along those lines.
Werner – it’s certainly possible that the Events Calendar is causing that issue, but you’re the first to report anything along those lines. Could you display the event data you want using template tags instead of the widget? Those are detailed in some depth right here: https://theeventscalendar.com/support/documentation/.
Let me know if either of you guys have any follow-up questions on this and I’d be happy to elaborate. Thanks for your interest.
Rob
MemberAt this point, you can’t showcase multiple categories in the widget by default – however, our dev Jonah may have a suggestion as to how you can hack this together.
As an aside, did you check out our walkthrough on how to fully customize these widgets yet? It may also add some value: https://theeventscalendar.com/how-to-completely-customize-widgets/.
Rob
MemberSounds good, Joe. If you’re still having problems after giving it a go, let us know and we’ll do what we can to assist.
Rob
MemberGood catch, Julien – that’s a bug. We’ll get it patched up for the 2.1 release. Apologies for the inconvenience in the interim.
Rob
MemberThanks for the words, Steve. I’m not sure of a method for doing this but our developer Jonah may. I’ll get him to chime in directly if he’s got anything worthwhile to note here.
Rob
MemberHey Michelle. Thanks for the note on this; the first item you’re requesting could likely be done but would definitely require a fair amount of custom development work. If it’s something you’d like to contract us or another developer to build I can certainly point you in the right direction…but as it stands we unfortunately wouldn’t have the bandwidth to build or provide direct support on how to build that here in the forums. I will say that if you feel up to the task, we recently published a how to on completely modifying the widgets, which may help: https://theeventscalendar.com/how-to-completely-customize-widgets/.
I like the idea of the day selector, though, and that seems much more manageable. Would the day selector just take you to the current “day view” (which you can see clicking on an individual day that has events, in grid view)?
Having a lot of events can be tough. You weren’t kidding when you said that site had a lot! What I’ve found helps break things out are either using categories to your advantage (then instead of linking users to the full on calendar, linking them to categories that are applicable to them) or just color-coding the categories, as we detailed in this walkthrough: https://theeventscalendar.com/coloring-your-category-events/.
That help? Let me know if not and I’d be happy to elaborate.
Rob
MemberIt shouldn’t be related to a .php file, unless you’d modified one – would you be willing to install the 2.0.2 code (technically being released tomorrow) to see if it fixes the issue? If so please shoot me an email (Rob at tri.be) and I’ll get that your way. We can keep troubleshooting as needed from there.
Rob
MemberYou can snag 1.6.5 right here: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/the-events-calendar/download/ (just select the appropriate link on the page). Let me know the results from there and I can keep looking into this for you as needed.
Rob
MemberExcellent to hear, John! Please let us know if anything else arises going forward.
Rob
MemberExcellent suggestion, Bill. In fact…we’re one step ahead of you. Jonah published a walkthrough covering that same issue last week. You can check it out right here: https://theeventscalendar.com/coloring-your-category-events/. That help?
Rob
MemberHey Rachel. Sorry about the delay in responding; for some reason your comment had been marked as SPAM and I’m just noticing that now. This issue you’d reported is a known bug that has been fixed for the 2.0.2 release, which will be launching either this evening or tomorrow morning. Upon upgrading it should be resolved but please let me know if it’s not.

MemberHey Tim, sorry to hear you’re having problems. Is there a reason you’re on TEC 2.0, but PRO 2.0.1? The first thing I’d suggest here would be to get those consistent (by upgrading to TEC 2.0.1) to see if that helps resolve the issue.
Rob
MemberThanks for confirming. In that case, let me get our dev Jonah to take a look – this is a bit outside my area of expertise.
