It would be great to see what’s actually in the database that might be causing this result: if you visit Tools → Export and select Venues then hit Download Export File and share the result (as a private reply if you prefer) via a Droplr or Dropbox link, or similar, that would be fantastic.

I’m afraid I’m not too clear as to the problem – I see that the calendar widget is contained in a fixed size element and needs vertical scrollbars as a result, but I’m not sure that that is what you are referring to here.

Basically I would like all the colors to line up nice and clean.

It looks like you are using The Events Calendar Category Colors to colourize those events – while that’s a great plugin it isn’t one that Modern Tribe created and we’d respectfully ask you take any queries concerning it / further customizations centred upon it to it’s own support forum:

I read that you can use the Sticky Post option to make three events appear at the top. That does not seem to be working.

My understanding is that the stickiness is only used if there are more events in a given day than can be displayed in a single cell in month view – so if you aren’t hitting that limit (which is set in the Events → Settings → Display admin screen) you’re probably not going to see any difference, I’m afraid.

In relation to your own site – can you confirm that this happens even with no other plugins and only a default, unmodified theme running (I do appreciate you annotated that you had tested just that – it would be great if you could confirm what the result of that test was)?

You are absolutely right. That’s clearly a bug – we’ll get this on the issue tracker and see about producing a fix as quickly as we can.

Please note our next maintenance release is in the very final stages of preparation before release and so it will realistically at least be the next, next maintenance release before a fix arrives.

Unfortunately a bug in the current release makes this a tad difficult. You should be able to use a snippet like this but it won’t work right now, I’m afraid. However, stay tuned and the next maintenance release will hopefully resolve this.

The is_front_page page call works fine on the ‘twenty thirteen’ theme, but that is a pretty basic theme.

Along with Twenty Twelve we view it as a de facto standard for themes as they both enshrine many best practices, which is why we often use them as reference points.

It’s possible an issue was introduced in 3.2, but besides a problem with one of our widgets (and I believe you said you removed the ECP widget you had been using) and considering you aren’t integrating events into the main blog loop I can’t think of any particular reason why this would happen.

We do have a number of query-related changes forthcoming in the next maintenance release though, if you want to wait and see if that yields anything here?

My understanding is that the approach taken in the Gist you referenced relies on an undocumented API call and though Facebook Events had very similar code was in place at one point we had to revise it because of inconsistent results for our users. At the time this method was last revised – quite recently – we followed what we though was the best strategy as per Facebook’s API documentation at that time.

So that’s the reasoning behind this, but we can certainly consider further revisions as we move forward.

Please try changing the view path in your snippet from widgets/mini-calendar/list to pro/widgets/mini-calendar/list … does that help?

I definitely appreciate the position you’re in – at the same time we have to be judicious in the amount of time we spend on each reported issue as we have many users to support. Your site is, ultimately, your site and we would only ever log in and make changes as a last resort – on balance, I don’t really feel it’s necessary here.

There are a number of plugins out there that can help with the process of taking a backup of your site – perhaps you could explore using one of those (so that you can take a ‘snapshot’ of your site and potentially restore it) before running through those basic troubleshooting steps? That way you could easily roll back should any unexpected problems arise.

These basic troubleshooting steps are very much worth running through as they invariably lead to a quick answer as to whether there is a conflict and what might be behind the conflict.
