It’s pretty flexible, you could certainly do pretty much anything like that. Here’s a snippet you might add within the single event template, for instance. I hope that helps!

OK, so it doesn’t look like something I can replicate locally and there don’t seem to be any client-side issues that might be impacting. With that in mind, can we try our regular troubleshooting steps of deactivating all other plugins (bar The Events Calendar and Community Events) and reverting to a default, unmodified theme – then check if the problem still occurs?

If that’s not desirable on your live site, creating a new WP installation in a subdirectory could be an option (start with just our plugins then build up from there, testing at each stage).

    Is that a possibility here?

No, it doesn’t prevent the tickets from being added to the cart. However, what you should find is that it prevents a customer from actually purchasing more stock than is currently available – which was in our eyes the most critical part of this (though please let me know if you find the contrary and customers can actually check out with more stock than is available).

Your other points are completely valid:

    • We’ll make a change to ensure additional error messages show up for each relevant line item
    • Preventing the user from advancing to the cart page is an interesting idea, but I’d be keen to hear the thoughts of other users (I’m not too sure there is a great advantage to keeping them on the product page when they can make the same adjustment on the cart page) and would recommend posting this item as a feature request on UserVoice

    Thanks!

russkeys: thanks for going to the trouble of determining this. We’d love to take a closer look – would it be possible for you to share a link to a .zip containing that plugin (perhaps you could upload to your own website, Dropbox or Google Drive – or some similar service – and share here as a private reply)?

    Thanks!

Hi proimpact – thanks for contacting us: I’m sorry to hear you are experiencing difficulties.

I’m not sure why the tickets meta box would be missing given your description; can you confirm if anything else besides The Events Calendar, WooCommerce and WooCommerce Tickets are currently activated? I do see you marked down that you had tried deactivating all other plugins – but can you confirm if at the same time you also reverted to a default and unmodified theme such as Twenty Twelve?

Certainly for myself there is no problem I can see under those conditions which makes this a bit puzzling.

@applyand and @mikeweisman: please do feel free to monitor this thread, but if it turns out that the suggestions made to proimpact are not beneficial in your case it would be best to create new threads of your own.

    Thanks!

in reply to: Modifying Links From Featured Image on Events Page #101533

Hi – great question and a valid point about the redundancy of linking to the same page the visitor is already on.

What you can do here though is override and customize the single-event.php template – please see our Themer’s Guide for an overview of this process. In that template you would look for this line:

    <?php echo tribe_event_featured_image(); ?>

Which pulls in the thumbnail, wrapped inside a link. You are more than welcome to replace this – there is nothing particularly special about our featured images – insofar as they follow normal WordPress conventions – so you could simply replace it with your own code that either pulls in the featured image by itself or, additionally, wraps it in a link to the event website (if that field has been populated).

    Does that help?

    OK, that’s unfortunate.

This basically fits with a pattern that a number of customers are reporting. At this time, then, there are really two options. One would simply be to wait until we can finish our investigations and see if that yields anything that will help in your case.

The second would be to establish a new WordPress installation (perhaps in a subdirectory somewhere) and initially install only our plugins and no non-default themes – see if the same issue crops up. If it is an immediate problem in those conditions, that points to there being some sort of environmental issue and we’d need to look at the details of your hosting environment.

Assuming that isn’t the case and everything works just fine, the next step would be adding each plugin you have on your live site and ultimately the same theme – checking at each stage to see if the problem has been introduced (in a sense, this is the same process but backwards and starting ideally with a functional setup).

Either way, we’ll keep you posted as we look into this.

    Hi Leanne,

No: I’m afraid this is beyond what we can help you with. As a developer, we’d really need to leave it to you to determine the best solution or – in turn – work with another developer who might be able to provide you with some amount of additional assistance.

Generally we are happy to point people in the right direction, but there are certain types of customization request – and I feel this is one – where we have to draw the line. We have many users to support and so guiding individuals through more in depth customizations can essentially hinder us from helping others. It’s a tricky balance, but I hope you appreciate we make the best judgement call we can.

If you haven’t already done so I would recommend reviewing the following resources which may help to give you a better picture of how everything pieces together.

Thanks again for getting in touch and I’m sorry we couldn’t offer more assistance this time round. If you do wish a list of freelance developers who we feel could help, please do email us as in my last reply – and I’ll go ahead and close this thread.

Should I network activate the plugin or go with activation on a site by site basis?

I don’t think there is any reason to favour one over the other – whichever works best for your own circumstances is probably the right path to choose here.

Also can you give me a pointer to advanced customisation as I could probably code it myself.
    Thanks

OK, so the basis of this would be including the relevant template, ensuring it has access to any variables it expects to be in scope and also enqueuing any support assets – such as JS and CSS files (which is where people can come unstuck). For the first half you can certainly make use of tribe_get_view(), for other aspects you can probably fall back on general WP API functions (such as for enqueuing scripts, ect).

    I hope that helps 🙂

Thanks for contacting us – and I’m sorry to hear you are experiencing problems.

I can appreciate your reluctance to run through the normal troubleshooting steps of deactivating all other plugins, but that could certainly be helpful in trying to get to the bottom of this – as I strongly suspect a conflict.

That apart, can you post back with a link to your main events page (I’m afraid I was unable to locate it) and a copy of your system information, as provided in the Events → Help admin screen (near the bottom of the page).

    Thanks!
