MemberHmm, ok. And does switching from the Default Events Template to the Default Page Template help at all (via the Events β Settings β Display screen)?
Barry
MemberYes – you can certainly limit the list widget to just a single category and we will be adding more complete filters (as the calendar widget currently has) in a future release π
Barry
MemberOK – sorry for the confusion!
The basic problem, I think, is that with a high number of events (and it looks like you have in excess of 7,000) the event countdown widget can “crash” within the widgets screen. That said, on logging in I can access your widget page and it’s just fine – so I’m not sure if that’s due to some other change that freed up or increased available memory or if something else is kicking in and impacting things but only when you log in.
To explain why I suggested using the cleanup plugin β our 3.5.x update inadvertently caused a large number of duplicate events to be generated for some users, ballooning the total number of events significantly (but this didn’t affect everyone). If that’s not the problem and you simply have a large number of events then we could still see the same basic problem.
Right now though – based on what I saw when I logged in – the problem seems to have been resolved. Can you confirm the same thing? If not, I can definitely give you a snippet that will disable the countdown widget to provide temporary relief.
Let me know!

MemberHmm – so just to clarify as I’m not sure I see this but could certainly be mistaken:
- Let’s say I’m in month or list view and apply a tag filter
- The result set is filtered correctly
- On advancing to the next month/next page of the result set, the filter is dropped and you see all results, not just those tagged with the appropriate tag
Is that correct?

MemberHi crawfbigg – sorry you’re experiencing difficulties. If you feel pretty confident that your problem is the same as hoofdkwartier25’s then definitely feel free to monitor the thread. If you find that isn’t the case or need assistance for your specific installation please do create a new thread of your own and one of the team will be happy to help.
when changing the permalinks, I get no mention that an .htaccess file should be set up. Iβm also getting 404 on all my pages.
When I access the website folder through ftp, the .htaccess file is not there. new .htaccess files are immediately removed. I am guessing this might have something to do with it.OK. Based on what you’re telling me it sounds like the problem is with the hosting environment and it may be to run things successfully you will have to switch to a different package.
Let’s try one last thing though: can you change your permalink settings to a custom pathinfo rule, like this:
/index.php/%postname%/Is the events page accessible now?

MemberHi – thanks for sharing the link π
So it looks like you are using a theme (Espresso) which comes with some pre-built custom events templates – and that’s the reason it doesn’t look quite like our demo site – it’s deliberately been styled to look the way it does by the theme author.
If you don’t like that then you can probably change this by opening up your theme’s directory where you should find a sub-directory called tribe-events. Try renaming this to something else, like x-events, and you should find the something the calendar’s own default templates are used instead.
Does that help?
Barry
MemberOK – this must be pretty frustrating- but just to be clear, you also switched to a default, unmodified theme (such as Twenty Thirteen) at the same time as deactivating all non-events plugins?
Barry
MemberYou’re absolutely right and I’m sorry for the inconvenience. I’ll make sure to log that and we’ll address it as quickly as we can.
Thanks for reporting!

MemberHi!
I’m sorry you’re experiencing difficulties.
It sounds potentially like a caching problem – but before we go any further can you provide a URL where I can see the event from within a widget? Though I can see other events that are in the same series, I don’t see one with the same date (or that take me to 404s).
Let me know!
Barry
MemberHi!
That’s actually by design, if you are referring to the calendar widget (which is what I see on your site, albeit it appears to have been customized to remove the calendar grid itself). If you want something more like a running list of upcoming events that are not bounded by a given month please use the list widget instead π
Note 1: I found this post βFAST FORWARD TO THE NEXT UPCOMING EVENTβ β but it didnβt work:
Aug. 13, 2013 β https://theeventscalendar.com/fast-forward-to-the-next-upcoming-event/Yes – that needs to be updated. We’ve left it in place, though, as some users may still wish to take and use the code as the basis of their own foundation (and we will of course do our best to get round to updating it).
Thanks!

MemberHi – sorry you’re hitting difficulties here.
It looks like you’ve got one or more custom templates (in a tribe-events subdirectory within your theme directory) and I wonder if you could try temporarily renaming that – to something like x-events, so that it isn’t used) and additionally comment out or remove any customizations such as snippets relating to The Events Calendar/Events Calendar PRO that might live in your theme’sΒ functions.php file?
Does the problem still persist after trying that?
Barry
MemberHi Katie – sorry to hear you are hitting difficulties.
It looks like some responsive behaviours are being triggered a little prematurely (normally things would display like that only if the browser is resized to a smaller size/a small handheld device screen is being used).
Can you tell me if there are any custom templates within your theme, possibly in a directory marked tribe-events? It looks to me like you do – and I wonder if they might be impacting here.
Can you try renaming that directory to x-events (this will temporarily disable those customizations) and see if the month view displays normally?
Thanks!
Barry
MemberI’m sorry first of all that we missed this – unfortunately posting in an already-resolved pre-sales thread doesn’t mean it will be flagged up as needing a reply (though we’ll make a note to look into a mechanism to improve this).
Since your question is really one which is suitable for technical support I’d ask you to post this in our main PRO forum, especially if you have an existing license π
Thanks!
Barry
MemberHi – great question!
At this time I’m afraid we do not – but definitely feel free to post a feature request for this. Admittedly I’m unsure how well this would work with premium plugins such as PRO but it may be worth thinking about π
Barry
MemberHi – great question!
Lots of users successfully use Genesis and The Events Calendar: because Genesis is in some ways a more unconventional type of theme it may require a little tuning to make things mesh nicely – we do have a few support resources to specifically help with Genesis integration, though.
Beyond that – remember that The Events Calendar itself is free! So you can always grab a copy and give it a go before investing in Events Calendar PRO π
I hope that helps, but do let me know if there is anything else we can help with.
