It looks like then that the timestamps of the WP folder files and the repo files are compared, and if the repo is newer, then an update is pulled.

As for the trigger, unfortunately don’t know. Usually when I go to Dashboard > Updates and hit the “Check” button, then gives me if any update is available.

Apart from this I believe there is a cron job set up in WordPress – which is triggered by a visit to the site or the Dashboard – which then checks if any updates are available. If I remember correctly that cron is set to run twice a day, but I’m not quite sure about this.

    Does this help?

    Hello Alan,

Thanks for using our plugins and for reaching out with your question! Let me try to help you with it.

The daily 100 import limit means that you can run 100 imports per day, regardless of the number of events in each import. So your 67 imports should all be fine to be imported on a day.

If you’d like we can investigate this issue.

If you rise above 100, then what you can do is set up several weekly imports on different days.

Let’s say you have 3 feeds.

Set up feed 1 for a weekly import on Monday and on Thursday.

Set up feed 2 for a weekly on Tuesday then on Friday.

Set up feed 3 for a weekly on Wednesday and on Saturday.

This way each feed will be imported twice weekly / every 3-4 days.

Depending on the number of feeds you will have you can increase or decrease the occasions.

On the failing imports, if you’d like further assistance, then please share with me the followings:

    • the feed of the import, so I can run some test
    • a screenshot of your Event Aggregator System Status (https://cloudup.com/c_AbQU9nKmr)
    • A screenshot of how the import of the feed is set up
    • A screenshot of your Events > Imports > History Page

    Thanks and cheers,
    Andras

    Hello Cas,

Thanks for reaching out! I’m happy to help you with this one.

When you are editing an event, then in the top right corner of the page you can see a “Screen Options” button. If you click on that, then a frame opens.

In that frame make sure that the checkbox next to “Author” is checked. This will make a meta box appear somewhere on the event editing page (likely at the bottom) where you can choose a new Author for the event.

Hit Update and you are done.

Here’s a screenshot to guide you.

Hope this helps, let me know.

    Cheers,
    Andras

Two more things came to me:

You can totally switch off Event Aggregator (if you don’t use / need it) under Events > Settings > Imports tab bottom of the page.

If it wasn’t deactivated yet, then please check if that makes any difference.

Also please test this with the filter bar deactivated.

    Danke und Grüsse

    Hallo,

Thanks for all the above and the staging site is a great move!

I have couple more questions, if you could answer these as well:

    – Does the staging contain exactly the same data / events etc.? Can you reproduce the issue there as well?

    – How many events have been published to the calendar?

    – What hosting environment is being used? Shared or dedicated? Operating system? Same used for staging and production?

    – Does the same performance issues pop up in a default WordPress environment? (Default theme, only calendar plugins.)

    – Might be helpful to install the Query Monitor plugin to help diagnose any specific functions that might be at play.

    – Could you send me a database dump and possibly the wp-contents folder so we can test your setting as well in different environments?

Thanks Uwe and have a nice evening!

    Cheers,
    Andras

    Hello again Uwe

Wow, I’m really sorry about that frustrating issue. We’ll try to look at it.

While we start, here are some questions which might help us find the cause.

Do you possibly have an idea when this query kicks in? Which page you are visiting?

Are you running any Event Aggregator imports, scheduled or not?

    Thanks,
    Andras

    Hello again dswiese,

Thanks for reaching out with that issue.

Does it look like that the import runs, probably finishes, and then starts running again?

I was doing some testing for a different user with a different issue and I have experienced a similar issue. A developer started looking into it already what this could be.

If this is the case, then you should be able to identify this on the Events > Imports > Scheduled imports page where an import will have a last import time of usually not more that 20-25 minutes. At least that was it for me.

Could you possible share with me a full database dump? That can help us identify which import is stuck.

I know you have shared your system information in the other thread before, but it would be helpful if you could do that here as well, so I have easy access to it. Easiest is if you tick the box under Events > Help > Yes, share my system information…

    Thanks and cheers,
    Andras

I ran the following test now:

I will be referring to these:

    • plugin folder: wp-content/plugins/the-events-calendar/lang
    • WP folder: wp-content/languages/plugins

    So the test

    • downgrade to TEC 4.4.5
    • deactivate all other plugins (to remove clutter)
    • delete all translation files from wp-content/languages/plugins
    • set the site to a different language than English (I used Hungarian)
    • add a translation to one of the strings in the plugin folder
    • check frontend
      • => translates fine
    • add a different translation to the same string in the WP folder
    • check frontend
      • => translation is taken from the WP folder
    • run update of languages at Dashboard > Updates
      • => missing language files for all my plugins are downloaded (including deactivated plugins); BUT the Hungarian TEC language file in the WP folder is untouched
    • run update of TEC 4.4.5 to 4.5.1
      • => language files in plugin folder are overwritten (with the update all plugins files are deleted and unzipped from the new package); thus the previously translated string disappears from the plugin folder
      • language files in the WP folder are not touched so my custom translation stayed in place

So far everything seems to be working fine. Maybe I need to leave this untouched now and wait for another version update.

It also can be that when WordPress is checking for the language updates and sees a newer file date in the repo (because strings have been removed / added / changed) – newer file date in repo vs your local – then it downloads it thinking it’s a more complete one. And so it overrides your.

But this is just a though I would need confirmation if this is what happens.

What can be done against this? Tough one, but I have some ideas.

    • Create a backup of the language files before updating and if it changes you can put them back / merge them somehow.
    • I believe with Loco Translate there is a third folder you can use: languages/loco/plugins/the-events-calendar-<locale>.po
This is likely not touched by any updates so might be the best place for the language files. But for this you need the Loco Translate plugin to be active.
    • When you have a new translation, add it to the repo (WP for the free plugins or our repo for the premium plugins.)

I’d be happy to hear your thoughts.

    Cheers,
    Andras

    Hello Janet,

Thanks for sharing the details with me!

I did a test import of the first url so far and it worked fine, the events show on the front.

When you import the events what status do you give them? Published, Draft, Pending review or Private. If ‘Published’ then they will be immediately visible after import. If ‘Draft’ then you will need to manually set them to ‘published’. If ‘pending review’, then you need to approve them.

When you go to the list of events in your dashboard (simply clicking on Events in the left menu) do you see your events listed? Do you see anything written next to the event titles? (Like this for example.)

Let me know and meanwhile I will check your other links.

    Cheers,
    Andras

Pylon, I’m so happy you managed to find the source of the issue and your site is running as it is supposed to! Great job!

Can you possible share what line it was that caused the issue? It might help other users and us in the future. Thanks!

    Hello Saloni,

Thanks for sharing the details with me, much appreciated!

I checked your site and my local install with several different themes. The issue does exist with a few of them.

The bugreport is in our system and will be handled by our developers. Unfortunately I cannot give you a timeframe at the moment.

The workaround solution to the issue is easy until the fix comes. It is the same as before. You need to add the following css snippet into your theme’s style.css file:

    .tribe-mini-calendar-event .list-date .list-dayname {
    box-sizing: border-box;
    }

I am going to set the status of this ticket to “pending fix” and we will update it once the fix is released. If you have any new questions or issues please create a new ticket and we’ll be here to help you out.

    Thanks and cheers,
    Andras
