Meanwhile I did some testing as well.

The expired events showing up as exclusions are not intended.

Some time back (around EC PRO version 4.4) we have changed how recurring events are handled in the background.

My hunch is that these misbehaving events were created before that version. Even though we have published a fix some time ago, the fix couldn’t address some recurrence rules, especially the custom rules.

So in this case I would recommend to delete the recurring events that have issues and re-create them.

As next it would be great to do a test for conflicts based on our guide.

Easiest would be to do the same exercise as you did above, but with all non-calendar plugins deactivated and possibly with a default theme – which you already have.

I understand that this can be sometimes difficult on a live site. In this case setting up a staging site that reproduces the issue would be the approach.

Out of the box that is not possible with our plugins, but with custom development it can probably be done. I know that there are users who are also using ACF, though don’t know exactly how.

To give you more info:

On the day view there is already the possibility to move forward and backward. There are 2 URLs at the top of the page.

If you decide to do this custom development, then you will most probably need to do a template override. You can find further details on that in our Themer’s Guide – https://theeventscalendar.com/knowledgebase/themers-guide/

Hope this helps you get started.

I just want to give you heads-up on one more thing. Based on our support policy we are limited in supporting customization. I can give you some guidance and pointers but you will need to do the heavy lifting.

As a first step, please update all the Modern Tribe plugins, and possible WordPress as well to the latest version and check if that solves it.

If the issue is still there after the update, then please go through our guide for testing conflicts and see if that brings any change.

Is the file that you are importing always the same? Or is it a different one containing – supposedly – the same data?

Are you doing the same steps and field assignment when importing the events?

How about always wraping it with a div, and if you want to style it differently when it has nothing in it, they can use the :empty CSS selector.
