Featured Calendar: The Optimism Company
It’s probably safe to assume that we could all use an extra dose of optimism these days. And in case you haven’t heard, Simon Sinek is the one to deliver just that. He started The Optimism Company as a way to share his work with as many people as possible, and his vision was a world where the “majority of people wake up every single morning inspired, [feeling] safe wherever they are, and end the day fulfilled by the work they do.” Sinek believes and says that the best way to build this world is to commit to building it together.
Simon Sinek is probably best known for popularizing the concept of “Why” in his first TED Talk in 2009. He has since written books on the topic, hosted many speaking engagements, and now uses The Events Calendar suite of plugins on his own website.
Let’s take a tour of this beautifully customized WordPress site below and get inspired by this unique use of The Events Calendar products.
A sunny homepage
Right when you land on the website’s homepage, you’ll find inspirational quotes, clear messaging, and links to all of the things you’d want to explore there. Many different plugins are at play delivering all the content in its various forms, but you’ll find the classic “events” page under Live Online Classes.
The site customizes the “events” slug to “classes” to better represent what they are promoting. You can make this change in the settings by going to Events > Settings > General and looking for the Events URL Slug.
A cheerful classes page
Now on to the main calendar page, which has been transformed into a Live Online Classes page. The Optimism Company utilizes The Events Calendar and Events Calendar Pro to display their classes in multiple calendar views easily. The calendar is extensively customized, and you can learn how to do this with a template override of the calendar views.
At the top of the page, you can sort the classes by category, cost, topic, day, and time with the Filter Bar plugin.
Below the filter bar, you’ll see the calendar in List View by default. You can also switch to Month, Day, or Week views. Check out this super-customized List View with all the bells and whistles!
Within each of the classes, users can purchase tickets using Event Tickets and Event Tickets Plus. Each of the classes is completely online and made possible with our Virtual Events add-on, which comes with features such as connecting to Zoom, Webex, Facebook Live, and YouTube Live, an embedded meeting link for registered users, and both online and hybrid events configurations.
A sanguine single event page
Lastly of note is the single event page for each of the live online classes that are offered by The Optimism Company. You’ll find lots of great customizations of our plugins on this page, from its eye-catching header with the title and price of the event to the two columns beneath information about the class and how to purchase tickets.
They’ve even included some additional features like a rating for the class, an FAQ section, along with related classes at the bottom. You can tell that they’ve put a lot of effort into creating such a beautiful and functional website, which really pays off.
