Featured Calendar: Charleston Library Society

We can all agree that libraries are an integral part of any community they’re a part of. Libraries offer their communities a place to borrow books, attend events, and learn about the culture surrounding them.

The Charleston Library Society is no exception. Founded in 1748, it is the oldest cultural institution in the U.S. American South and the second-oldest circulating library in the country. In addition to their books and programs for children, the Library Society’s collections include a manuscript copy of The Fundamental Constitutions of Carolina in John Locke’s hands and letters by George Washington, John Marshall, and Alexander Hamilton.

For their extensive breadth of events and programs, they’ve chosen to use The Events Calendar and Events Calendar Pro to display all of their offerings, along with Event Tickets to add RSVPs to their events. Below, we’ll take a look at how they do it.

A scholarly opening

The Charleston Library Society starts its website off strong with an engaging homepage. In addition to a scrolling video header and lots of pertinent information about their institution, you’ll also find an area listing their upcoming events.

What’s unique about their approach is that they created a custom widget area to display their events on the homepage. Another way you can add events to your homepage is with our Events Calendar Pro calendar widget shortcodes, which you can add to any WordPress page or post.

You can access the main calendar page from the homepage calendar widget by clicking on “View More” or from the navigation menu at the top of the page by clicking on “Programs and Events.”

An intellectual calendar page

On the main calendar page, you’ll find another customized version of our calendar. We love how they’ve blended our calendar views to create one that’s unique to their website. Although we don’t know exactly how the Charleston Library Society created this awesome view, we do know that our plugins are super easy to customize!

We’ve got many custom templates available so you can make your calendar your own. See our Customizations Guide for even more tips on building your events with all of the bells and whistles.

A thoughtful single event page

Lastly, the single event page showcases each of the Library Society’s upcoming events. And they do it in a way that makes their events really shine. With such an expansive calendar of events, investing in the calendar’s appearance can be really beneficial to potential event attendees, and they’ve definitely achieved what they set out to do.

On the single event page, you’ll find a beautiful layout with sections to give attendees all the information they need to attend the event. They’ve also included an RSVP form created with our free Event Tickets plugin. Adding an RSVP to an event page is a great touch, as it allows you to prepare for attendance at your upcoming event.
