MemberThat’s awesome of you, thanks rappnews! I know we’re actively working on this bug and have some data to work with, but I’ll pass your offer along in case another use case would be helpful.
I’m going to go ahead and close this thread since it seems we’ve pinned down the issue and it’s being worked on, but we’ll be in touch and update this thread when we have more to share. The next release is right around the corner. 🙂
Cheers!

MemberHi there presis, welcome to the forums! Sorry you’re hitting some trouble with categories not saving when an event is submitted using the Community form, but let’s see if we can tackle it together. 🙂
I wasn’t able to replicate the issue on my end but that doesn’t mean it’s not an issue for you. The first things I’d like to try is testing for conflicts with your current theme and other installed plugins. Could you try temporarily activating the default Twenty Thirteen theme, to see if the issue happens there as well?
If disabling the theme fixes it, that’s good news! It means we have narrowed the issue down to a theme conflict.
If the issue is still there when using the default Twenty Thirteen theme, then we can try testing for conflicts with other installed plugins. Using the Twenty Thirteen, please try deactivating all of your plugins, except for the ones from Modern Tribe. Does that solve the problem? If so, reactivate the plugins one at a time until the issue pops back up, then tell me which one was causing the issue.
These steps are also outlined here if you want some more details on how to test for conflicts.
Give those steps a shot and let me know what you find.
Cheers!

MemberHi there Berloth, thanks for getting in touch and welcome to the forums! 🙂
Yes, checking the box for “Display events as blog posts” will add your event posts to the main blog loop. That’s a nice feature, but it also mixes your events with your other posts rather than grouping them together to show, say, the last 5 events.
Have you tried using the Event List widget? If your homepage is set up for widgets, then you can go to Appearance > Widgets and add the Event List widget to the location of your choice. The widget has a ton of choices, including the ability to set the number of events you would like to show. Here is a screenshot of the settings.
Does that make sense? Will that work for you? Please let me know.
Cheers!

MemberHi there Samantha, welcome to the forums and thanks for getting in touch!
Sorry you’re running into issues with duplicate events being created with the Facebook importer. This is something we’ve seen pop up a number of times and is definitely a bug. I checked and see there is a ticket to fix this before our next release, which is just around the corner. We’ll follow-up and post an update to this thread to let you know when that releases.
Thanks for letting us know! It’s super helpful to see how often this kind of thing pops up.
Cheers!

MemberHi there, Gary! Welcome back to the forums. 🙂
It sounds like the Genesis Simple Sidebars plugin targets functionality specifically for the Genesis framework. Honestly, I don’t have a copy of the plugin and am unfamiliar with it, but that’s what I gather from looking at the plugin page. You may want to check the plugin settings to see if it will allow you to extend that functionality to specific post types, since events are a registered post type.
Another idea is to set events to use a theme template instead of the default calendar templates. You can select templates by heading over to Events > Settings > Display.
Lastly, you could create your own template for the calendar views using our theme overrides. This will allow you to override any calendar template to create your own layout and include any additional functionality you need to extend the functionality of the Genesis Simple Sidebars plugin. If the other two options don’t work, then you should be able to customize the templates to suit your needs this way.
Does that make sense? Will that work for you? Please let me know.
Cheers!
GeoffSeptember 26, 2014 at 7:28 am in reply to: Is it Ok to periodically change Create recurring events in advance for months #768362Geoff
MemberHi there Peter, thanks for following up!
if I have events set to recurring but they are not yet withing the general month setting will they show in the general events listing?
If I’m understanding correctly, you are asking whether all events in a recurring series will display in the general events listing, or just the first instance of the series. You can actually choose which you prefer by heading to Events > Settings > General Settings and checking the box for “Recurring Event Instances.” You’ll also notice another setting there that allows you to define how far in advance to create recurring event instances.
Been playing around with recurring events and unfortunately setting the recurring by custom only fine tunes the event date and not how far out from the event date you want this to show in the calendar.
The custom recurrence functionality offers a lot of flexibility as far as creating a pattern for events to recur, but it is true that the pattern would need to be something that is repeatable from event-to-event. For example, you can set events to recur every other Wednesday and Thursday for the next six months, but that is the pattern it will follow all six months.
What you could do, however, is create the custom pattern you want then edit the date of single instance you want to space out using the “Edit Single” option, like in the screenshot I shared earlier. Please note that editing a single instance will remove the event from the series, but will give you the flexibility it sounds like you’re looking for.
Also just noticed in the event listing that all the recurring events are showing as a – and not a Yes as in your screen shot? What do I need to set to get this back?
The only recurring event in the screenshot I shared was the last one. All non-recurring events will display the dash because they do not apply. If an event is part of a recurring series, the “Yes” will display.

MemberHi there Felix, thanks for getting in touch! We’re super happy you’re enjoying the plugin so far. 🙂
Great questions, let’s tackle them one at a time.
I would like to display todays events in a widget
Unfortunately, this is something we don’t support right out of the box. However, you could create your own theme override of the pro/widgets/list-widget.php and use template the documentation for the list widget to modify the output of the events to display just the current day. It’s going to be quite a bit of customization, but I imagine is possible.
I would like to have a basic event page – therefore not linked to a specific date. The reason is that I want to link it in the main menu?
This is another instance where using a theme override, or even creating your own custom template might be an option. However, we offer the ability to add any single event to the main menu in Appearance > Menus. Select the menu you are editing, then check the box of the event you would like and click the “Add to Menu” button before clicking the “Save Menu” button. Check out this screenshot of how that works.
Does this help answer your questions? Please let me know.
Cheers!

MemberHi there Peter, thanks for getting in touch!
Great question. You are able to change the time for recurring events both for the entire recurring series or just on a per-event basis. You’ll see an option to “Edit All” or “Edit Single” when hovering over the event in the WordPress admin (check out this screenshot).
Does that make sense? Will that work for you? Please let me know.

GeoffSeptember 25, 2014 at 8:55 am in reply to: Blog and Archive Pages have class .current_page_parent when on Event pages #766233Geoff
MemberHi there, Cintia. Welcome back to the forums. 🙂
The pages/posts created by the calendar follow the same function used by default WordPress functionality, so they should be treated like any other page as far as changing the current item in the menu.
I’m unable to see exactly what you’re referring to since this is on localhost, but I would imagine the current page class would work appropriately if the calendar is added to the menu in your Appearance > Menus settings and that the calendar is using the default event templates in Events > Settings > Display.
If they aren’t, I wonder if you set the calendar templates to use one of your theme templates instead under Events > Settings > Display, and the template being used is causing the unexpected behavior. Is that possible?
Cheers!

MemberThanks for the confirmation, Janelle. Glad the issue isn’t with WPML but it definitely would’ve explained it.
At this point, I would need to see the issue on a test site since I’m unable to replicate the issue on my end and haven’t been able to see it with the link you provided as well. If you could set up a fresh WordPress installation in a subdirectory of your site (e.g. yousite.com/test) with the default WordPress theme activated and no other plugins installed except for the ones by Modern Tribe, and send me a link that shows the issue, that will allow me to dig into this a lot deeper.
It would be fantastic if you could facilitate that.
Thanks!
GeoffGeoff
MemberYeah, as long as you have event posts in your database, the expected behavior would be for hte events to display on the page. From what I can see, the plugin is adding its body class styles and has interaction with the page, but the HTML itself isn’t printing.
One other thing you might try is adjusting the plugin settings (Events > Settings) to see if you can override the theme conflict there. For example, if you have set calendar to use a theme template instead of a plugin template (Events > Settings > Display), then try reverting to the plugin defaults. I would play around with things like that to see if you can avert the conflict the theme seems to be causing. I know it sounds trivial, but it can be effective.

MemberHey there, David. Yes, if you have a number of submitted events in Draft status, you will be able to check the boxes next to each one in the WordPress admin and perform a bulk edit to set them to Published status.
Here’s a little more info on the Bulk Edit functionality in WordPress.
Does this help answer your question?
Cheers!

MemberHi there, Ron! Thanks for getting in touch. 🙂
Yes, the calendar by default does display events in the order of when the events are happening rather than the publish date. However, there are a couple of ways you could customize the calendar to display the events by publish date.
The first is to modify the query that is used to display the events on the calendar. Our event queries are based on WordPress’s own query mechanism and you can use filters in your functions.php file to modify the output. Here’s a direct link to our documentation and here’s the documentation for the event query, which is what I think you would be looking for.
Another way is to modify the month view template (see our Themer’s Guide for an overview of how to do this) and re-order the events before they are displayed.
We won’t be able to help any further with customizations, but let me know if this points you in the right direction to get what you need.
Cheers!
