ParticipantHello, please help. I have an events page, working well so far. What i want is to see the last published events as a list on the home page as well. Somewhere in the settings ive checked the box saying something like “display events as blog posts”. How to about it?

MemberHi there Berloth, thanks for getting in touch and welcome to the forums! 🙂
Yes, checking the box for “Display events as blog posts” will add your event posts to the main blog loop. That’s a nice feature, but it also mixes your events with your other posts rather than grouping them together to show, say, the last 5 events.
Have you tried using the Event List widget? If your homepage is set up for widgets, then you can go to Appearance > Widgets and add the Event List widget to the location of your choice. The widget has a ton of choices, including the ability to set the number of events you would like to show. Here is a screenshot of the settings.
Does that make sense? Will that work for you? Please let me know.
Cheers!

ParticipantThank you Geoff. You pointed me in the right direction but it didnt solve it because widgets appear on every page. I just want it on the home page. The option where you put a widgetised sidebar on the home page doesnt give this option of an event list. So how do i get this widget with event list only on one page? Thanks a lot, Paul

MemberHi there Paul,
The option where you put a widgetised sidebar on the home page doesnt give this option of an event list
You should be able to go to Appearance > Widgets and see “Event List” as one of the widgets listed under “Available Widgets” in the left column of the screen (screenshot). That comes bundled with your copy of Events Calendar PRO, so make sure that plugin is installed and activated.
So how do i get this widget with event list only on one page?
You may need to create a widget area in your theme specifically for the template you want the event list on and possibly a template just for that page to assign that widget area to. Here is the information on how to do that on the WordPress Codex.

MemberAwesome, I’m so glad you were able to get the widget area going. Great work!
Check out the Events List widget. It sounds like you might be using the Events Calendar widget instead, which uses the full calendar layout. 🙂
Getting the images to display in the list will take a fair bit of customization. Unfortunately, I’m unable to do the custom work for you, but basically you’ll be creating a theme override of the widgets/list-widget.php template and adding the default WordPress get_the_post_thumbnail function inside the loop where you would like the image to display. If you haven’t created a theme override before, I’d suggest heading over to our Themer’s Guide for more information, including step-by-step instructions for overriding plugin templates.
Does that help point you in the right direction? Please let me know.
Cheers!

ParticipantThanks Geoff, the list works now. To get pictures is difficult, i fear its way over my head. Do you know somebody who will do it for money? You maybe?
Thanks, greetings, PaulSeptember 30, 2014 at 7:58 am #778238Geoff
