ParticipantHi there,
Is it OK to change the months set under Create recurring events in advance for field – a few times in a year without messing the recurring events? ie. does it simply set the time in months when recurring events start showing or will it cause recurring events to break or unnecessarily duplicate?
Regards
Peter

MemberHi there Peter, thanks for getting in touch!
Great question. You are able to change the time for recurring events both for the entire recurring series or just on a per-event basis. You’ll see an option to “Edit All” or “Edit Single” when hovering over the event in the WordPress admin (check out this screenshot).
Does that make sense? Will that work for you? Please let me know.
Cheers!

ParticipantHi Geoff,
That sounds exactly what is needed as there are basically 2 seasons for summer and winter sports but they dont fit neatly within the general settings of months out from an event. This way they can fine tune each event to be viewed more specifically from a date out from the actual event.
Can you tell me, if I have events set to recurring but they are not yet withing the general month setting will they show in the general events listing?

ParticipantHi Geoff,
Been playing around with recurring events and unfortunately setting the recurring by custom only fine tunes the event date and not how far out from the event date you want this to show in the calendar. Adding this option to custom recurring events would be the best way either by weeks or months that would override the general months setting?
Also just noticed in the event listing that all the recurring events are showing as a – and not a Yes as in your screen shot? What do I need to set to get this back?

If I’m understanding correctly, you are asking whether all events in a recurring series will display in the general events listing, or just the first instance of the series. You can actually choose which you prefer by heading to Events > Settings > General Settings and checking the box for “Recurring Event Instances.” You’ll also notice another setting there that allows you to define how far in advance to create recurring event instances.
Been playing around with recurring events and unfortunately setting the recurring by custom only fine tunes the event date and not how far out from the event date you want this to show in the calendar.
The custom recurrence functionality offers a lot of flexibility as far as creating a pattern for events to recur, but it is true that the pattern would need to be something that is repeatable from event-to-event. For example, you can set events to recur every other Wednesday and Thursday for the next six months, but that is the pattern it will follow all six months.
What you could do, however, is create the custom pattern you want then edit the date of single instance you want to space out using the “Edit Single” option, like in the screenshot I shared earlier. Please note that editing a single instance will remove the event from the series, but will give you the flexibility it sounds like you’re looking for.
Also just noticed in the event listing that all the recurring events are showing as a – and not a Yes as in your screen shot? What do I need to set to get this back?
The only recurring event in the screenshot I shared was the last one. All non-recurring events will display the dash because they do not apply. If an event is part of a recurring series, the “Yes” will display.
Cheers!

ParticipantHi Geoff,
The first two points are all good so will play with the settings and see how I go.

I have recurring events but only see dashes in the admin list of events? Tried deactivating plugins but didnt make a difference?

MemberHi there Peter,
Is it possible that you have edited those single instances that are displayed dashes? Doing so will remove them from the recurring series and make them their own non-recurring event.

ParticipantHi Geoff,
After the latest updates the recurring instance in the menu list is all working again so all looks to be good.I haven’t had a chance to test the options on the first two points so for now I think this can be closed.
Many thanks
