Featured Calendar: Sydney World Pride

Our next WordPress calendar example comes from Sydney, Australia to celebrate the global LGBTQIA+ community. Sydney World Pride is an upcoming 2023 not-for-profit festival. This website incorporates the events of Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras, plus a broader festival offering across arts, sports, theatre, concerts, parties, First Nations programming, and a human rights conference.

Sydney World Pride uses The Events Calendar plugins to showcase all their festival events and to gather excitement about the global Pride celebration starting in February 2023. Let’s take a look at how they accomplished this exceptional feat below.

A colorful homepage

Sydney World Pride’s homepage engages its audience right from the start. With on-brand colors and a vibrant theme choice, prospective attendees can get a sense of the kind of events that they’ll be attending. The slider in the header features informative sections, including one that links users to all their upcoming events.

Beyond that, there’s a custom-built section with a few of the featured upcoming events and another link to view all upcoming events. What’s cool about this website is that it mainly focuses on showcasing its events as the main feature. Since the festival is only once every few years, Sydney World Pride seems to be going all out to make sure that their events shine. This means that more site visitors may purchase tickets to their festival.

Upcoming events in our WordPress calendar example

Being that the events are the stars of the show, the events page is easy to navigate to any page on the website. From the homepage, you can find the main calendar page from the navigation bar item titled Explore Events at the top of the page, an option in the slider in the header, or you can select the View All option in the custom events widget. You can’t miss this amazing calendar!

An electrifying calendar page

And now it’s time for the main event! The calendar page maintains the same styles as the rest of the website and includes a customized version of our Filter Bar plugin.

Calendar page created with The Events Calendar

The calendar view by default is List View, but users can also switch over to Map View, which is one of the premium views available with Events Calendar Pro. Sydney World Pride also transformed its Featured Events into Official Events, with an eye-catching unique border. Event categories also show up in the filter bar so site visitors can sort through events by category.

A stunning single event page

The single event page includes a larger header, followed by an event description. Below that, you’ll find the Classic Event Details block, containing all the information you need to find the event. Further down, you can add the event to your personal Google Calendar or iCalendar with the export function available with The Events Calendar. Lastly, towards the bottom of the page, the related events are listed for site visitors to click on.
