Using Your Events Calendar Pro License Key

There’s been a bit of confusion surrounding when you do and don’t need your Events Calendar Pro license key lately, so I wanted to shed some light on the matter. The license keys serve two specific purposes: granting you access to support, and clearing you for access to future plugin updates as they come. This means that if you want to make sure your plugin is current — you should probably have a license code in place.

What it doesn’t mean, however, is that certain features stop working or are disabled until one is added. There is no Events Calendar functionality on the WordPress backend that only works with the license key present…everything works out of the box regardless of whether you plug a key in or not.

For a number of users, much of their development work is done on a staging or dev site before it is pushed live. This means two different URLs — and is bound to raise the question of whether you need to buy two different license keys in this situation.

Well, you don’t. One will suffice. You can either:

• Ignore the license key on the staging site, and save it for the live site; or
• Add the license key on the staging site and then unlink it through your account at tri.be when launch time comes, so it’s available for use at the live site.

If you need to update your development site but don’t have a license key on it, you can always download the latest version of the plugin from Account Central –> Downloads and install it manually.

Remember that you have complete control over your keys & what sites they’re tied to by logging in to your account and going to My Account –> License Keys. So if you’re ever concerned that the key may be linked to a site it shouldn’t be, that’s the first spot you should check.
