Sunsetting Older Versions of the Zoom App

Sunsetting Older Versions of Zoom

As part of our Virtual Events plugin, many of our users take advantage of the ability to add a Zoom link directly to their WordPress site events. This allows attendees to easily access meetings and webinars.

In an effort to bring our customers the best versions of our plugins and make sure that everything is always running as smoothly as possible, we’d like to retire support for an older version of the Zoom app. The good news is that this does not affect many of our users, but we always want to make sure everything is running optimally on all of our customers’ websites.

Read below to learn about if this affects your site and how you can make sure you’re using the most updated version of the Zoom app.

The details

Over the past few months, we’ve decided to make the informed decision to sunset the older version of the Zoom app. This means that we will no longer provide support for this older version and will not release any Virtual Events updates to make sure that our plugin is compatible with it.

To make sure that you are using the most updated version of the Zoom app, head over to Zoom and find the app that you are using for The Events Calendar and Virtual Events. The name of the app is The Events Calendar Virtual Events For Users. The last Virtual Events plugin release for this app was version 1.3.0, and it was released on April 20, 2021. If you have not updated the app since this time, now’s the time to update your Zoom app and your Virtual Events plugin.

If you’re not sure if this affects you, you can simply go ahead and disconnect from Zoom and reconnect. You’ll also want to ensure that you are using the most recent version of the Virtual Events plugin. We want to reiterate that this only affects a very small number of users, so your site is likely to be completely fine.

And that’s it! Once your app and plugin are up-to-date, you can get back to creating your events as usual! If any questions come up during this process, feel free to reach out to our support team, and they’ll be able to assist you.
