The Events Calendar 3.0 Preview: Week View

Today marks the start to both a new week and a new month. To kick things off in style, and to buck the cliched trend of April Fools posts that arrive 4/1 (want to play a real joke? publish your fake post mid-August), we’re offering up quick preview posts of The Events Calendar / Events Calendar PRO 3.0.

You’ve already seen the 3.0 preview page we released included in our newsletter, and the video that accompanied it. To follow that up, I’ll be publishing 3 brief, quick, down-and-dirty videos this week (with more preview posts to come in future weeks), each covering a new view we’re adding in the 3.0 PRO release.

First up: week view.

This view was one we’ve had a lot of user demand for, and has been requested consistently pretty much since 2.0 launched. Week view allows you to view all events taking place during a 7-day period. Users can select the week they want to view from a datepicker in the event bar above the calendar, and events that fall in that date range will immediately populate the calendar.

Visually, all-day events appear closer to the top of the calendar in week view, with fixed-range events below. There are tooltips that reveal on hover over a given event which offer further information about the time and description of that event. Clicking a title or anywhere in the gray container will take you into the entry to see the rest of the pertinents. It also carries over all the behaviors standard for views in this plugin: previous/next links, iCal import and an indicator when you’re on the current day.

Overall this is a pretty standard week view, and one that aims to be familiar for users already comfortable with other calendaring solutions like iCal and Google Calendar. We’re pleased to be getting it out there and giving more options to sites operating with a weekly schedule.

Check back for Tuesday’s post if you’re interested in checking out 3.0’s map view.

  1. Lookin’ clean! +1 on that integration with default WP start day of the week.

    1. Thanks for the note, Joe, and for watching the video. Glad to hear you’re liking what you see. If you haven’t reached out for the beta yet and you’re up for giving it a shot, do let me know.

  2. Do y’all have a projected release date? I’d like to use the new version for a project I am about to start. I’m a pro member, just trying to get a sense of when I can expect to get a copy. Even a dev copy would be great for building…

    1. Hey Jeff! We’re looking for sometime over the next 1-2 months, though hopefully not much longer than that. We do have a beta copy we’re floating around to developers and those interested in seeing how it stacks up against their current customizations, etc. If you’re down to give that a shot — and do so with the understanding that things will still be changing, and that you probably don’t want this on a production site as a result — we’d be happy to hook it up. Send me an email, pro /a/, and we’ll make it so. Thanks for checking out the preview and for your interest.

  4. What about Organizer view ? If the user wants to see events by a specific organizer. It was promissed for 3.0 but I have not seen any mention of it.

    1. Hey Ragots! Organizer view is coming in 3.0 and is on track to be included in the initial release. It’ll allow a frontend view that shows a loop of all upcoming events hosted by a given organizer. I’ll probably end up doing a video preview of it sometime over the next week or two.

Thanks for your interest. Hope that answers the question, but let me know if not. Cheers.

  5. Oh my God. Sorry. What happenned ? Posted 3 times.
And also Event tags, what about event tags. Do we get that with 3.0 ?

    1. No problem about the triple commenting…I’ve taken care of the duplicates. Event tags will also be included in the initial 3.0 release!

  6. Looks great! I am using your calendar for two sites for my church. The church site and the school site. Your code is clean and the additional views that you are adding are great. I first looked at’s calendar but their code to load days was a big sql statement that did not respect the loop. I am using ‘Groups’ to restrict certain posts and events and your calendar worked perfectly with that plugin,’s did not.

One request, is to add a little ‘Edit’ button if you have that privilege. For the school and church, there will be a ton of events (mini-events if you will) and it would be easier to manage if you look at the actual calendar and then click on ‘Edit’ to edit that particular event.

Great Stuff! Your calendar rocks! Thank you!

    1. Hey John, thanks for this nice note. We really appreciate the feedback and are glad to hear you’re excited about the new views and that you’ve found advantages to using our calendar over some of the competition. That validates the work we’re doing each day…thank you.

Are you asking for a frontend edit option, where essentially anyone who is an author can click it and be taken immediately to the edit screen for that event? I believe that’s what you’re saying but wanted to check. In that case…then yes, this should definitely be included in 3.0.

Hope that helps. Let me know if not, or if you have any other questions. If you’re interested in trying out the 3.0 beta, shoot an email to pro /a/ and I’ll hook you up.

  7. Hi there

I have recently purchased Gameplan that has your plugin in it. I would like to have the week view calendar but can’t find anywhere how to get it. I just need a timetable for the gym website I am building and I am stuck. Could you please help? Thanks

    Best regards

    1. Hi there Kerry! Thanks for the note here, and apologies for taking some time to get you a response here — we aren’t monitoring these comments as diligently as we should be. Awesome to hear you’ve got Gameplan…they are one of the themes that looks to integrate quite nicely with Events Calendar PRO. But best I can tell – if you don’t see “Week” view as an option under Events -> Settings -> Display – you’re going to need to actually acquire the PRO plugin ( to get week view functionality implemented.

Hope that helps. Let me know if it doesn’t 🙂

  8. Hey Rob,
Thanks for creating a great plugin.

I was wondering if it’s possible to start the week calendar start at 9am, as opposed to 12am?

    Thanks! 🙂

    1. Hello there Cintia! Thanks for the note and for your kind words about the plugin — glad to hear you’re enjoying it. At the moment unfortunately the functionality you’re requesting isn’t a baked in feature, but if you check out this thread ( it may shed some light on where we are with that.

Sorry I couldn’t offer up more in the short term. If you have other questions or need anything else, please let us know.
