August 26, 2015 at 9:43 am in reply to: [iCal Importer] "No ical found at this url" Google Calendar Import #999196

ParticipantHowdy Russel,
First of all, please pardon our belated response. Our queueing system does not handle “bumped” topics very well, as it shows them as having a more recent response than even older topics. My apologies.
It seems possible that there is a file permission error. If both uploaded and URL imported files are not working, there is likely an issue with the actual saving of the file. This can happen when the file upload directory does not have the correct permissions. If you have changed any Unix file permissions on your site, you might need to change them back.
If you have not done the above, then it is likely that something else is at play. If you open up your server’s error logs, are they showing any errors around the time of your upload? If so, what are they?
Finally, it might be worth doing a conflict test. If none of the above reveals anything. This guide walks you through how to test for a conflict, and then identify what is conflicting.
Please let me know if you have any questions along the way. I’d be happy to help. 🙂
Cheers!

August 25, 2015 at 12:02 pm in reply to: Some feature questions like embedding, category colours, etc. #998889Brook
ParticipantHowdy Nelson,
It’s nice to meet you. Those are some great questions, I will do my best to break it down.
Can I embed a calendar I’ve created using your plugin on our website. An iframe may do the trick but I’d rather a more robust option.
I can understand wanting a more robust solution. Our calendar currently does not offer any native embed solution beyond iframes. A few folks have requested this feature and it is something we are looking into, but even then the solution will likely ultimately be a streamlined iframe.
Can I have different categories display as different colours on the monthly calendar? Basically, we want all courses of one type to be green, then courses of another type to be orange, etc. We want people to see course types at a glance by colour.
That is absolutely possible. There is an excellent free addon that does just this: The Events Calendar Category Colors
Assuming we go with your plugin for our course calendar, can we then create other calendars for other topics other than courses? Note: We would buy the pro version.
You are limited to one calendar per site. Each category in that calendar can be clicked on, and you can view events only from that category in all the various ways you can view events in all categories. But, since you are already categorizing your course calendar from the sound of it, perhaps using linking directly to category pages to segregate the calendar is not quite what you’re after. You could use WP’ multisite tool to create more than one site and thus calendar. Our plugin fully supports that.
When someone clicks on an event and the new window opens, can we have a banner across the top that says the topic they’re in? We’d like these popup pages to be branded.
By default, when someone clicks on an event they are taken to the event details page on your site in the same window. On that page you will find all the details for the event, the time, organizer, and such. One of the details can be an “Event URL”, which might be a link to a separate website dedicated to that event. If you wanted them to not fully leave the site when clicking this link, you could instead link to an banner service that has your banner at the top and event details at the bottom.
Does that all make sense? Does it sound like it will work for you?
Cheers!

August 25, 2015 at 11:53 am in reply to: "Organizer Name Already Exists" Error after Community Events 3.11 update #998883Brook
ParticipantHowdy Spencemann,
I definitely want to help you figure that out. To my knowledge we have not yet discovered enough information to reproduce the problem, nor a solid solution. I also searched through our forums here for similar issues since 3.11. I found one topic with a private reply, but they did not share if they had a solution or not. Then the topic closed after a couple weeks of inactivity.
I asked the team if anyone was aware of a solution, and no one could recall. Would you mind doing a conflict test? That seems the likely cause of this issue. This guide walks you through how to test for a conflict. If something is conflicting it helps identify what. If we know what is conflicting, we can probably find a work around or write a solution.
If it’s not a conflict, would you mind grabbing your system information and pasting it here? Make sure to use the ‘Set as private reply’ checkbox to protect your private information from the public. You can find the system info by going to WP Admin > Events > Settings, clicking on the “Help” tab, and scrolling down to the ‘System Information’ box. (Or by going to [yoursite]/wp-admin/edit.php?post_type=tribe_events&page=tribe-events-calendar&tab=help) That will give me a lot of extra information to help diagnose the problem.
Does that all make sense?

ParticipantThank you Ramon! The email folks just forwarded me your file. I will give this a test tomorrow and see if I can find a workaround for you. Hopefully a little code will help you get the order you wanted. 🙂

ParticipantI am happy you found a solution. If you’re happy with it stick with it for sure. But, if you do wish to not modify Core then you might try the snippet I shared earlier. The priority was just one of the things I changed. For me it was working great. I was testing it with hide the first recurrence setting disabled.
Let us know if you need anything else!

ParticipantHello CHM,
Have you tried flushing your permalinks? That can be done by following the first portion of this guide: Troubleshooting 404 Page Not Found error
It might be possible this event is corrupted to. What happens if you try to create a duplicate copy of this event, with the same dates/times and so forth? Does the duplicate show up properly everywhere? If so, you might just delete the original. Sometimes a server can have a hiccup while creating a series of recurring events, and when that happens that series becomes corrupted.
Does that all make sense? Were you able to recreate it or did flushing permalinks help? Please let us know.
Cheers!

ParticipantHowdy Nikolaos,
I can not find an email from you last Thursday. 🙁 Can you share your email address here? If you check the box “Set as private reply” if will hide the response and thus your email from the public.
Cheers!

ParticipantHowdy Chris!
It’s nice to meet you. I am happy to help get your questions answered.
1) Can I assign colours to different categories to highlight the box for each day on the monthly view dependant on the event category?
Oh most definitely. You should take a look at the free addon The Events Calendar Category Colors. It adds some coloring to the categories.
2) It looks as though the calendar is displayed beneath a category. I would like to add the calendar to a page to allow additional content to be added above and below it, is this possible?
Again, this is totally possible. The Pro plugin adds two fields to the Settings area, which allows you to add HTML above and below the calendar. Further, if you are interested in customizing the look more than just content above/below, you can do so with a theme override which allows full control of what you see and where you see it.
Does that all make sense? Will that work for you? Please let us know.
Cheers!

ParticipantHowdy Gajanan,
That is definitely possible with the plugin, including the free one. If you are already a customer and need help setting it up, please open up a topic in our support forum (not the pre-sales area). We’d love to help. Or if you’re just running the free plugin, checkout the volunteer forum: WordPress.org: The Events Calendar.
Does that all make sense?
Cheers!
