We do not have any shortcodes to move the form and the active page. So you would have to customize the entire form and detail page. I believe it is possible but could involve some advanced coding to pull off. We can try to answer questions about that customization, but for the most part it would be up to you to take care of.

Great glad you figured it out.
In the Events Calendar 3.9(coming in a couple weeks) the list widget will come styled liked the Mini Calendar Events so you will no longer need to customize this.

Ok sounds good.
I am going to start in reverse.
For #3 yes move to your child theme just you outlined.
As for #1 and #2 if you either delete or comment out those lines that will remove it. Nothing special to do beyond that.

They way you posted works for us. It is best to try and keep one issue per ticket as you did. Glad you like our plugins, thanks for using them. I am going to repost my response from the other ticket here as well for future reference.

If a custom sized featured image is something you would like as a feature I encourage you to visit our User Voice Page and either upvote an existing request or make a new request there. As that is the primary source of new features for our plugins.

Thanks for using out plugins I can try to help out here, but we are unable to troubleshoot theme compatibility issues for the most part.
I do not think you are doing anything wrong, it just sounds like the theme does not detect the events pages and so is placing the header there.
Not sure how that function works in your theme, but you could try hiding it with css. All the events pages have a body class of
events-archive
or
events-single
I maybe able to help out a little on this if you have any follow up questions.
