September 18, 2013 at 11:47 am in reply to: SAVING Reoccuring Events Does Not Work with new 3.0.5 Update #66664
Barry
MemberHi guys, sorry for the inconvenience first of all – this is a bug we hope to resolve in one of the next maintenance releases. In the meantime we added a possible fix in our Useful Code Snippets list (over on the right) that you can try:
Recurring Events – Fix for Update Recurring Events Dialog
I hope that helps – but if not please just hold tight and a substantive fix will be available soon 🙂

MemberI’m going to close this as you haven’t followed up and I’m guessing you’re all sorted here.
Do note however that we have found this / a very similar problem occurs when NextGen Gallery is present and active. If that’s the case for you (or anyone else reading this) please do note that, sadly, we cannot at present assist further due to the nature and structure of NextGen.
Thanks!
Barry
MemberHi Anne, I’m guessing you don’t need further support here as it’s been a while without any follow up and will now close this thread.
If you do need further help just drop us a line in a new thread. Do note however if you happen to have NextGen installed, which we believe is the source of this conflict, we will not at present be able to assist due to the nature of that plugin.
Thanks!
Barry
MemberBased on what we’ve gather in other threads it sounds very similar to a known conflict with NextGen, which is unfortunately not something we can help with due to the particular way that plugin is put together.
If of course you aren’t using NextGen let me know, ideally with an answer to my questions above, and we’ll happily dig into this a little further.
Thanks!

MemberHi everyone, thanks first and foremost for your patience.
In at least one other case this problem seems to have stemmed from a limitation within the hosting environment (where certain types and sizes of database query are limited). It’s worth trying this fix and seeing if it resolves the problem – this could be added to your theme’s functions.php file (but do note the opening <?php tag can normally be omitted).
Thanks!

MemberYes, I believe we (to be more precise our developer Jessica) were able to resolve it.
I know there were other users out there experiencing something similar so I just want to share what happened behind the scenes, mostly in case it’s of value to others but also so you have a note for your own purposes.
Basically, this piece of code was added to your theme’s functions.php file. The problem (we think) is a limitation within your hosting environment impacting on queries that need a certain number of joins to operate (ie, they need to gather information from numerous different tables) and this should help to mitigate that.
Specific to your environment (@gracebiblechurch) Jessica did note that she was unable to dismiss an admin notice relating to Jetpack that stemmed from her troubleshooting work – but hopefully you found that and were able to resolve it with your super admin privileges.
If you’ve got any further questions on this issue please let me know – otherwise I’ll go ahead and close this thread (and thank you for your support and patience while we looked into this).
Barry
MemberNo problem 🙂
I’ll go ahead and close this now but if there’s anything else please don’t hesitate to create a new thread.
Barry
MemberGreat – sounds like everyone is good here and has a workaround they’re happy with … and we should hopefully get things fixed up in a forthcoming maintenance release, too. In light of which I’ll go ahead and close this thread – if there’s anything else please don’t hesitate to create new threads as required.
Thanks!
Barry
MemberNo problem! I’ll go ahead and close this thread (unfortunately we can’t help with very theme-specific situations like you described Derek) but if there’s anything else please don’t hesitate to create new threads as required 🙂
Barry
MemberHi Shimatorabi, can you create a new thread of your own? That would be much appreciated – thanks!
Barry
MemberYou only seem to have one event on your calendar and that is in the past … can you try shifting it to a new future date (or creating a new test event in the future) and see if this still occurs? If it does not it may indicate a problem in how your theme handles 404s.
If it does persist, can you next try visiting Settings → Permalinks: you need not change or save anything, just visiting this screen should “flush” the permalinks.
If that still doesn’t solve this can you confirm whether the initial troubleshooting steps you indicated you had followed resolved this or not?
Thanks!
Barry
MemberNo problem, I hope you get there 🙂

MemberYou’re right that you shouldn’t have to do it manually and normally you would not, but let me try to explain.
Let’s say you have a recurring event taking place on 1st September 2013 and recurring every month until 1st September 2015: you will then have 25 different “instances”, one for each of those months.
If you edit the first of those, taking place on 1st September 2013, and apply the change to all it will indeed (or should) propagate through all of the events … however, and perhaps this is what has happened here, if you edit an event half way through that chain – perhaps 1st October 2014 in my example – change something and apply to all what actually happens is the entire chain is split in two.
What we then end up with is one chain running from 1st September 2013 – 1st September 2014 (and those would be unaffected by the change) and a second chain running from 1st October 2014 through to the final instance taking place on 1st September 2015.
These two “chains” of events are now completely distinct entities though they may still share the same title and other bits of data in common. If after doing this you then edit the instance taking place on 1st July 2014 (and again apply the change to all future events) we’d have three “chains”:
1) 1st September 2013 – 1st June 2014
2) 1st July 2014 – 1st September 2014 * which you just formed
3) 1st October 2014 – 1st September 2015This is by design and, from what I can see in your screencasts, is exactly what you are experiencing – except on both occasions you have edited the last event in the first chain and so there is indeed only one event that will actually be updated.
It can certainly be a bit of a puzzler if you aren’t aware that this is how the system works – but it aims to follow the conventions established by industry leaders such as Google Calendar and, again, it does seem to me that everything in your case is working as expected.
Barry
MemberOK, well I’ll bow out here since it’s sounding like you’re basically all good and there is no bug as such with our plugin by itself.
If there’s anything else though definitely do create a new thread and we’ll be happy to help 🙂
Barry
MemberNo, it wouldn’t – the presence or absence of the license key should have no affect on this whatsoever.
The first thing to do here is check that all of your Modern Tribe plugins are up to date (if you are having difficulties with your license key consider uploading new copies manually – you can grab our premium plugin downloads over here) – and also ensure you are running at least WordPress 3.5. If that doesn’t help please deactivate all non-Modern Tribe plugins and switch to a default, unmodified theme and see if that resolves this.
Thanks!
