Join our usability tests covering renewal, theming on April 4

Hey folks. We’ve scheduled two mini usability tests for next Thursday (April 4), and I wanted to use this post to solicit volunteers. Read on if you’re interested.

In the past, our usability tests have been focused on one broad topic per month. We’d get 3-4 users to participate, and spend 45-60 minutes walking through a 10+ items our team defined for them beforehand. April is going to be a bit different. Instead of one broad topic, we’re doing two here: a first for regular users looking to renew or upgrade an existing license; the second for more dev-minded users who are willing to let us watch them attempt some theming/template overrides. Each session will last no more than 30 minutes.

UX Test #1: Renewing/Upgrading Your License

As you’re probably aware, we recently debuted renewals and upgrades here on the Modern Tribe website. We now want to see how users are engaging with it. To that end, we’re seeking three (3) participants who are willing to let us watch as they renew their licenses.

There’s only one requirement here: that you have an active or expired license you want to renew.

While we (for obvious reasons) cannot give you the upgrade itself for free, anyone who participates will be offered a free personal license for any add-on of their choosing.

UX Test #2: Overriding Templates

We’re looking for three (3) themers of varying skill levels who would be willing to attempt a few small template override tasks on the new templating system. We’ll watch to see if you can figure it out, and how well you pick up on our theme override approach.

Unlike UX test #1, which is really open to anyone who is a customer, we’re looking specifically for people confortable doing theming/overrides in some capacity. If you don’t know what these terms mean you might not be well-suited for this UX test.

Participants will be granted a free personal license for Events Calendar PRO or any add-on of their choosing.

If you think you’d be a good fit, awesome! We’re looking forward to meeting you. Please note that all testers must have a strong/reliable Internet connection with a Skype account they can use for this session; speak English fluently; be an adult at least 18 years of age; and be situated in a quiet place free of distractions.

All usability tests will take place during 30-minute windows from 9 am PT – 12 pm PT on Thursday, April 4. Schedule is looking like:

  • 9-9:30 am PT (Renewal)
  • 9:30-10 am PT (Renewal)
  • 10-10:30 am PT (Renewal)
  • 10:30-11 am PT (Theming)
  • 11-11:30 am PT (Theming)
  • 11:30 am – 12 pm PT (Theming)

If you’re interested, please send us an email. It should specify which of the two tests you’re interested in, and what time slot would work best. Please also make sure to confirm that you meet all the criteria outlined above to ensure the sessions run as smoothly as possible.

Looking forward to hearing from the community here. See some of you on April 4!
