Feature Calendar: Washington Voices

Each month, we showcase one of our customers using The Events Calendar products. This month, we are featuring Washington Voices, an educational and advocacy nonprofit led by those impacted by sex offense legislation.

In their words:

“Through advocacy, Washington Voices restores the health, hope, and dignity of those experiencing the ongoing consequences of a sexual offense. We envision a world where healing from harm is possible, where people can be open and honest about harm done, and where communities are restored.

We have work to do. Let’s do it. Abuse is real, and pervasive. Our current reactions to it destroys lives, the possibilities for restoration, and pushes abuse into the shadows. It’s time to get real about sexual abuse, do what works, and let those who don’t believe us know the truth.”

Below, we’ll look at how Washington Voices uses The Events Calendar and Events Calendar Pro to display their upcoming events.

Widgets on the homepage

The first thing you’ll notice when you land on the Washington Voices homepage is that they’ve found multiple ways to display events through widgets and shortcodes directly on the homepage. Here, you can click on individual events to go to their respective landing pages, or you can see the full calendar of events.

The main calendar page

The main calendar page displays events in List View by default. You’ll also find options for Month and Day views, making it easy to see the events in different ways depending on your preference. Washington Voices uses a no-frills style, matching all of its branding and colors across its site without distracting visitors with overly-fancy design touches. This keeps users focused on events and helps get their message across succinctly.

Using event Series

With Events Calendar Pro, you can create event Series and recurring events. This way, if you have events that repeat regularly, you can automate the creation of events rather than building each event individually. That is precisely what Washington Voices has done with their Town Hall Meeting. Event Series is a great feature to help you organize recurring events on a specific landing page and make it easier for users to navigate to recurring events. The single event page

Lastly, let’s look at one of the single event pages Washington Voices uses to show its upcoming events.

Single event page

The page starts with a featured image containing the event title, followed by an event description, an Add to Calendar button, and the classic event details. Lastly, related events are displayed at the bottom of the page.
