Release: The Events Calendar 2.0.3

Jumping into 2012, there’s a lot we at Modern Tribe have in store on the WordPress plugin front that we’re extremely excited about. The first of those is out today: The Events Calendar / Events Calendar PRO 2.0.3, which patches a number of bugs (some critical, some minor) that were introduced in the 2.0.2 code base. We are well into 2.1 and development is going strong.

Release Notes for WordPress Events Calendar 2.0.3:

Small features, UX and Content Tweaks:

  • Incorporated tribe_get_custom_field() to code base as per this forum thread
  • Code updated to account for additional translation strings, as per this forum thread
  • Made the $sep param of TribeEvents::maybeAddEventTitle() optional

Bug Fixes:

  • Organizer data can now be changed on an already-published entry in core
  • tribe_get_start_date() fixed
  • Future instances of custom recurrence no longer display inaccurate start/end times
  • In views/single.php on lines 58, 60 & 62, changed tag to <? instead of <?php
  • Required changes to WP_PLUGIN_URL (line 126) & WP_CONTENT_URL (line 930) in
  • Deleting a single instance of recurrence in PRO (whether from the list or from within an entry) now works correctly with appropriate prompts/dialogue boxes
  • Attempting to change from a saved organizer/venue to no organizer/venue now works
  • Venue no longer behaves bizarrely when no address data added
  • Fixed issue where event links broke for recurring events whenever a site had permalinks set to default; also fixed general conflicts that occurred when URL rewriting was off
  • Customized defaults can now be turned off after being enabled under Settings -> The Events Calendar
  • Removed instances where organizer data displayed as event title for some users
  • Changes made to custom fields under Settings -> The Events Calendar now take effect upon save
  • Non-U.S. states and provinces now save correctly
  • General fixes to improve how default venues/organizers function and are modified
  • Addressed various PHP notices

As always, we look forward to hearing your feedback as to what works and what doesn’t work this new release. While we QA’d the plugin on our end, don’t hesitate to let us know if something stops working or behaves differently after updating from 2.0.2. If we broke something (which is always possible), we’ll certainly do what we can to fix it.

Next on our radar is the 2.1 release, which is a broader project that will include both new features and bug fixes. That’ll be closely followed by Eventbrite Ticketing and Community Events.

  1. Was ECPro supposed to upgrade automatically as well? I’m asking because it didn’t.

    1. it should offer a notice in the plugins admin panel. That said, we’ve noticed that every so often it can take up to 1/2 a day or so to catch up with everyone.

  2. Awesome – I am excited about 2.1 as well, can’t wait to see the smile on my clients face!

  3. Just updated to this release, but I’m still seeing the bug where neither the Event Location or the Event Organizer fields are being saved. I’ve tried partially filled and fully-filled, but it doesn’t make a difference.

This is kind of a show stopper, and I’ve got 4 sites suffering from this. Any help?

    1. Hey Brian. We’re working as hard as we can to get this resolved, and I apologize from all of us for the continued error. We had this nailed down in the QA process and while the issue that was impacting all users seems to be resolved, some are still reporting this even after the 2.0.3 update. One thought: can you confirm that this is happening on new and existing data, versus just existing data?

  4. Love this program! We advertise our seminars for seniors. Just started using PRO this month.
Is it possible (I haven’t figured out how yet) to have the calendar display Sunday through Saturday rather than beginning on Monday and ending on Sunday?

If not would love to have this as an option in upcoming release.

    1. Hey Shawn. I believe I addressed this in a forum post you asked about recently, but you should be able to control this via your default WP settings under Settings -> General. Whatever you apply as the view for the broader WP install will carry over to your Events too.

  5. My settings panel doesn’t have an area for setting the slugs (as seen in your videos). Is 2.0.3 done differently? Also, the default view setting (Calendar vs. List) doesn’t seem to work – the list view is always showing.

    Please advise.

    1. I had an idea – I turned permalinks ON (postname) – and VOILA the fields are now visible.

      1. Hey Michael, glad to see you got this resolved – though apologies for not responding before you had to figure it out yourself. You are correct that the permalinks being turned off was an issue; enabling those should tide you over until we’re able to get a more substantive official permalink approach on the books for 2.1.

  6. Hi, I made some additions/edits to the .php pages within the plugin. Will those changes be erased if I update to this latest release? If so… how can I update and keep my changes?

    1. Hey Tim. What files did you modify? You can make sure your changes are saved by doing a template override, which is detailed in the first question under the “Customization” section at our FAQ page: In a nutshell, you’d create a new ‘events’ folder in your theme directory; copy over the .php files you want to change there; and modify the copied files so you left the core plugin untouched. These will not be overwritten next time you update the plugin (though they would be if you’d modified the core files).

Hope that helps. Let me know if it doesn’t.

      1. Okay, yes, I mainly modified the single.php, list.php, and gridview.php files. so that should work. I’ll give that a try..

      2. Perfect. Let us know if you have any other problems from there.

  7. What’s the best way to upgrade from version 1.6.5 to version 2.0.3? I can’t find any upgrade documentation. Thanks in advance.

    1. Hey Robert. I’d check out this article and see if it gets you where you need to be: Let me know if you’re still having questions from there.

  8. Rob – thanks for all of your help. The iCal Import and +Google Calendar do not work on

    1) The +Google Calendar button doesn’t display on the main calendar

    2) The iCal Import button displays on the main calendar, but generates an error “iCal can’t read this calendar file. No events have been added to your iCal calendar.”

    3) The +Google Calendar displays on an event page (such as: ), but generates an error from Google “Google 414. That’s an error. The requested URL /ServiceLogin… is too large to process. That’s all we know.”

    4) There is no way to disable these buttons

    1. Hi Emmett. Thanks for the note, and for reaching out. I’ll offer up responses in the bulleted list fashion as well.

      1. This is actually the intended behavior: Google Cal & iCal on single events, just iCal on the main grid calendar. This will likely change down the road but until then adding Google Cal to the main grid would require some extra work on the user’s end.

      2. Haven’t experienced this issue before. Do you have any other calendar or iCal related plugins running on the site? It may be a good idea to try deactivating other plugins in general to test whether doing so could resolve this, as it sounds like it’s a conflict.

      3. We’ve got a known bug related to this in the system that we’re working to get changed for 2.1. In the interim, the iCal file should work for Google Calendar users

      4. Actually, this is doable but it’d require some tweaking on your end. You could comment them out in single.php; have you given that a go, trying the template override procedure detailed in the first “Customization” question of our FAQ (

Hope that helps. if you’re still having problems from there, feel free to reach out.

  9. We’ve been successfully using v1.20 for some time and love it. Working on a new website at

Exported the Events in an XML but they consistently fail to import in the new version.
Can you give me some advice on that…or a location where we can get the 1.20 version to install on the news site?

  10. The ICal function is not working on our site. I get the following error message:

Fatal error: Out of memory (allocated 68157440) (tried to allocate 35 bytes) in /home/pagosasp/public_html/wp-includes/meta.php on line 565

    1. Hi D. West Davies. Sorry to hear you’re having issues. Are you using PRO or free?

  11. Hi – I hope I am in the right place – I am using Events Calendar Pro on my web site – – I am trying to list all of my events; I am pulling my hair out trying to figure out where to list them at. They are great on the calendar – I love the calendar.. But, I have to make changes to most of the events and I wanted to make the changes per a list rather than one event at a time… Does that make sense?? Also, I wanted to change the color of the “view list” from red to white – Not sure how to do that either, can you help… Thank you so much – I love Event Calendar Pro and have told a lot of folks about you guys… Thanks again Polly –

    1. Hi Polly. Thanks for the note; we’d be happy to help you out here. But would you mind posting to the forums, so we can address it in as timely a fashion as possible? Since you’re a PRO user, you’re now entitled to post at, and that’s the best place for us to help you out. Drop this note in there and I’ll get a dev to take a look accordingly. Thanks!
