ParticipantThanks Jennifer. We feel like we’ve already reduced the number of events by a decent margin. How many events can The Events Calendar PRO typically handle? We’re on a dedicated server with a great hosting partner in WP Engine, so we didn’t think having 5,000 or so events would be detrimental to performance.

ParticipantThanks for the response Jennifer. I’ll respond to each item you listed individually.
The first thing I would suggest is going under Events > Settings > General and reducing the amount of time into the future that recurring events are created as well as the amount of time before past events are deleted. If you can reduce the overall amount of events you have, that should help somewhat.
We had already done this previously and it didn’t make much of a difference in regards to the performance.
You mentioned that you tried the steps outlined in the Knowledge Article. Did you try using a caching plugin? This could help with the site in general, not just with events. Many of our users use W3 Total Cache, just make sure that with any caching plugin you disable minification of Javascript and CSS files, as having it enabled can cause conflicts (see this post for more info on caching plugins and minification issues). This article has some more info on caching and events, and this one has more info on minification.
Our hosting provider, WP Engine, actually already has built-in caching enabled on the website. We also use the Better WordPress Minify plugin on the site (https://wordpress.org/plugins/bwp-minify/) to handle minification of CSS and javascript files.
From your screenshot, it looks like the month view is where a lot of the slow-down is. As the knowledge article you referenced mentioned, reducing the posts per page can also make a difference. You can reduce the number of events displayed on each day by going to Settings > Display > Month view events per day.
This was already set to show only 3 events per day, which I wouldn’t think would cause any major performance issues.
We seem to have noticed that the performance of your widgets is partially what’s causing the problems. We completed testing on a page using the Query Monitor plugin and one of three scenarios. We tested using the (1) Events Calendar widget, (2) the Events List widget and (3) no widget at all. The results were pretty alarming. Here are the averages we found:
Events Calendar Widget:
Page Generation Time – 6.003
Peak Memory Usage – 84,342
Database Query Time – 1.525
Database Queries – 526.5Events List Widget:
Page Generation Time – 3.102
Peak Memory Usage – 77,453
Database Query Time – 0.6629
Database Queries – 104.25No Sidebar Widget:
Page Generation Time – 1.3475
Peak Memory Usage – 76,673
Database Query Time – 0.044715
Database Queries – 75Sorry this is a little tough to read. I tried to upload an Excel file, but it said the file type wasn’t allowed. In any case, we’d love to hear what you all think about those numbers. They signaled to us that the performance of the widgets is fairly poor, but we’d love to hear if you recommend any other changes that might improve these numbers.
Thanks.

ParticipantThanks Geoff. I’m checking with our client on how they’d like to move forward. Otherwise, I hope the fix is released soon.
Have a good one.

ParticipantThanks Geoff. Unfortunately, those workarounds won’t work since we’re only securing certain pages on the site, and not the entire site. I’ve attached a screenshot of our general settings in WordPress. Both are set to http://, but I assume that’s what we want since only certain pages are secure on the site.

ParticipantThanks Geoff. We’ll update the plugins at the end of the month and let you know if any issues occur then.
We appreciate all the help with this.

ParticipantCan you give us any idea what we should be keeping an eye on? Even if we check the form regularly, we don’t know how to replicate the issue at this point, so we won’t know if it’s fixed.
Thanks.

ParticipantWe updated all the calendar plugins to version 4.2.1 and I’m ecstatic to say that we no longer see the Organizer Details section being duplicated!
Thanks for working through this with us! Feel free to mark this as resolved.

ParticipantThanks for getting back to me Cliff. I went ahead and updated all of the Events Calendar plugins to the most recent versions and am now noticing some new issues:
1) There are no longer any fields to add information under the ‘Organizer Details’ section. I only see a dropdown to select a previous organizer or use a new organizer which the dropdown defaults to. I’ve attached a screenshot.
2) When I click ‘Add another organizer’ underneath the aforementioned dropdown I am just taken to the top of the page. Nothing else happens and I still can’t add any information for a new organizer.
Am I missing something or can you provide any insight into these issues?
Thanks,
Dan

ParticipantSure thing. Give me a few days to get to this Cliff and we’ll send over the system info. Please do not close the ticket.

ParticipantHi Cliff,
I tried using an incognito window, logged in and out, as well as adjusted the default content settings with no luck. Each time when I submit with errors the Organizer Details fields are duplicated on page reload. Any update on your end as far as progress goes?
Thanks.
Jonathan
