    Hi András

Thanks — yes, it only happens each time we update the plugin, and actually,
from your just-completed reply I now recall what our solution has been when
it’s happened before — to log in using my Android phone. So I’ve just done
this, and the system has again allowed us to connect to Facebook and now
import from Facebook as before. So we’ve resolved our problem.

    Thanks again.

    Hi Cliff

We’ve just identified the problem here. Pop-ups were blocked on the Facebook login page. I’ve been able to renew this Aggregator token now.

    Thanks

    Hi Geoff

Thanks. When we’d updated to version 4.4.0.1 of The Events Calendar we experienced a slew of screwy bugs and problems with the Community Add Event interface, with the net result that we couldn’t use it for entering new events nor present it to our public. It wasn’t due to any other plug-in interference — we tried disabling them one by one etc. Finally we had to revert to the pre-January 13th version of our site to restore this event add functionality.

So I can’t really update the software right now, unfortunately.

I can say that all the rest is fine – our Google Maps API key and all the rest are correct; we’ve been using the maps continuously for half a year, with problems a couple of times which were resolved. Now this problem has just occurred some days ago, with the maps all turning to blank rectangles. I’ve no idea why.

Thanks in advance for your further suggestions and guidance.

Hi Cliff and thanks. I will try as you suggest in your first posting above. As for updating our versions of The Events Calendar, unfortunately we can’t do that, because we did and it produced great problems. Specifically, when we updated to 4.4.0.1 the following problems occurred in the Community Add Event interface, and we had to revert to recover the working version of the software. I’ll just run through it for your reference – when we had updated to the current version:
Firstly,((A)) under Event Date & Time, the Recurring Event section had several problems: ((1)) There was a grey arrowhead next to the entry which can be toggled up and down but didn’t seem to do anything. ((2)) Selecting anything other than No in the Recurring Event drop-down menu showed a text prompt with the words “and will” on one line, and “end” on the next. ((3)) Exclusions has another grey triangle arrowhead next to it which does nothing. Please remove.

((B)) Venue Details ((1)) no longer had the prompt or functionality to Use Saved Venue (similar to the Use Saved Organizer prompt and function below it). ((2)) Also, note problems below to the Organizer details. ((3)) If I selected a country, such as United States, the box to enter a State or Province disappeared. There was no ability to enter a State at all this way. Please fix.

((C)) The Use Saved Organizer facility was totally screwy. ((1)) Instead of a drop-down menu of organizers, when you clicked Select or Create an Organizer, the saved organizers now appeared as a text list at the very bottom-left of the page. Users had to know to scroll down there, had to know those are organizers, and had to know each one is a clickable line of text. And there was no way to create a new organizer that I could see. And there were two white prompt boxes below the Select or Create an Organizer which couldn’t be typed in and had no function. It was all screwy. ((2)) There were then follow-on strangenesses in attempting to enter an Organizer after attempting to select a saved one – clicking further made the browser window jump around on the page, etc. Once it started jumping around, it was impossible to fill in any further boxes / info on the page, such as Excerpt and Cost.

In sum, it was impossible to add events using the newest version – when we reverted our site pre-January 13th, all these problems went away. So for now, we shouldn’t update to the newest version, unfortunately. As I say, I’ll try your other suggestions and get right back to you, thanks.

And/or by the way, we’d had this problem once before, of the Facebook login screen hanging – and that time if I recall rightly you were simply able to do something that secured our Facebook login confirmation, such that the Import function worked again with Facebook. If that’s possible now that will also be welcome – thanks as suitable.

    Hi Hunter

Thanks – that all worked, and we can import events normally again as before. All issues are resolved.

    Hi Hunter

My developer just tried to install the 4.3.3 version of the basic The Events Calendar plug-in and encountered some serious errors (see screenshot at this link: http://www.screencast.com/t/5VpSJ4Zr). It’s probably related to the fact that we’ve just switched over to using https for all our site pages.

When he updated the plug in, the admin pages became empty and it looked like some resource that was loaded by the plugin is not https. When my developer checked the the-events-calendar source code, he noticed that http is hard coded, they didn’t even checked if the site is https or http.

Worse, the whole calendar disappeared from the site, leaving error Page Not Founds and no events, calendar or map view, no nothing. We had to not only revert to 4.3.2 but also restore the whole site from our most recent backup in order to get the calendar and events back again.

Our developer strongly suggests we stay with version 4.3.2 until you can fix the issue with https. He’s too concerned to try updating the PRO or other plug-ins now.

So now it seems there’s two problems – as we still don’t seem to be able to do the Facebook or other importing anymore, due to the original problem of this post. Any suggestions? We can’t do any custom programming of the plug-in on this end, it’s against our rules.

Thanks in advance for any further help!

    Thanks Geoff. It’s working now.

FYI the connecting to Facebook dialog box still hung on my PC, running Windows – I don’t know why it kept hanging, but e.g. there was no Adblock turned on. Anyway I tried it on another device and it let me connect Facebook to Aggregator. After that the import works as before.

    Thanks again for your responses.

    Hi Geoff

Thanks — all that looks okay. But my basic question is:

Previously, I could import from any event page in Facebook by entering the page URL. It didn’t have to be one of my own events.

Now, when I select Facebook as the import source, rather than asking me for a URL, it’s asking me to connect Aggregator with Facebook so it can access my account to import my events.

But it’s not my own events I want to import. We work with many partners who have their own Facebook pages, and it’s their events we need to import to the Calendar. These are typically one-off events, not with auto-updating, from always-new Facebook event pages.

Can you clarify how this can continue to work in future? How can I just tell Aggregator to import from a particular Facebook URL which has nothing to do with my own Facebook account? If I “connect” my Facebook account to Aggregator will this continue to be an option?

Thanks in advance for this further clarification.

    Hi Geoff

We’re running an old version of the Divi theme (version 2.1), and I’m pretty sure that’s related to the current problem, given previous quirks. We tried updating to the most recent version 2.3.4, but experienced too many formatting glitches, couldn’t manage it all and finally just reverted to the old version, unfortunately.

I can confirm that just clicking the latitude and longitude checkbox for an event does not impel it to geolocate. Such events are still absent from the main Map View, and when I return to the editor the check box is no longer checked. Only looking up and entering the coordinates manually works at present to get the event on the main Map View, and searchable by location. But the local event pages do show it fine.

    So, the problem persists, unfortunately.

    Hi Geoff

I’ve checked with our programmer. It turns out he hadn’t substituted our API key in the snippet when he tried it last time. But he’s tried it again with the API key, and it still doesn’t work. The maps on individual event pages still turn to blank white rectangles. And it seems the Fix Venue button also still didn’t work. So we’ve taken out this snippet again. Now I’ve geolocated our new Events manually – and they do show up on the Map View and are searchable by location. But this still isn’t happening otherwise with new Events, it seems.

    Hi Geoff

Thank you – I’ve tried adding that bit of code. Unfortunately it seems to have made things worse. The new events still don’t geolocate fully, in that they don’t appear on the main Map view nor are they searchable by location. And now I’ve lost all the maps on all individual Event pages – they have all become blank white rectangles. I’m removing this code now, and would be happy of course for any further insights or help as may occur.

Thanks ~ we’ve solved the problem here.

The Venue name link, for events showing under the Month View in Mobile version, needed to look like this: Name of Venue , but they were looking like this: Name of Venue“> Name of Venue

The reason why the permalinks were being incorrectly parsed is because of the function setup on the template called venue_link.

venue_link is calling tribe_get_venue_link() which by default returns the complete HTML link. In order to fix this, we need to return only the URL of the Venue (as we already parsed the HTML through the template).

It’s working correctly now on our site.
