There is no means of doing this (other than building your own solution) – however please look forward to the next version of WooTickets which will facilitate CSV exports 🙂

If I try to view the problem using the link you posted initially I see only a blank page, but in any case it’s really something you would have to tinker with.

The views have indeed been changed quite radically for 3.0 and, we hope, that is not far away from being released 🙂

OK. If you use pretty permalinks to access event listings is there still a problem? For instance if I use:

    http://www.leisurecourses.net/courses/upcoming/

    Instead of:

    http://www.leisurecourses.net/?post_type=tribe_events&dates=2013&dates=july-august-sept

(Which is what you posted initially – and is an example of default permalinks) it looks as though the navigation menus are present? Does that help at all/am I misunderstanding the problem?

It should be there – you should see something like Upcoming Events › Test or Calendar of Events › Test (depending on your settings).

    Hi Annette,

It looks as though you might be using default (or “ugly”) permalinks and our plugins do not work nicely with those.

Instead, if at all possible, can you switch to pretty permalinks (ie, the postname format provided by WordPress in Settings → Permalinks)? You can find more information on permalinks here:

If you take a look in the-events-calendar/lib/the-events-calendar.class.php in the get_event_link() function you can see how the previous/next event link queries are formed.

You could use this as the foundation of your own query and include a check for the excluded category – or if you prefer to keep some of that logic in PHP form then you could have a loop where each subsequent event before or after the current one is loaded until you find one that isn’t assigned to an excluded category (or until there are no more events left … note this second approach would likely be less efficient than a single query).

I hope that gives you some ideas – it would be great to see what you come up with 🙂

Yes: for an improved set of venue/organizer handling options you would probably need Events Calendar PRO – this would certainly allow you to create as many new venues as you like.

Again you’re posting faster than I can keep up 🙂 However:

So if there’s a recurrence, it has to end on the same day initially? Is that what makes it work? That is very confusing.

Essentially yes. You don’t have to make it end on the same date, but that would be the correct course of action in your situation, as I see it.

    Hi Gwen,

I’m worried that my last post wasn’t clear enough and that you might consequently be misunderstanding things, so let me try to clear a few things up first of all 🙂

The Weir isn’t showing 56 times on any one day.

So I think you are referring to this comment that I made:

It begins on May 15 and ends on July 7 … That’s a span of around 56 days

To be clear, I’m not stating that it shows 56 times on one day. I’m saying only that there are approximately 56 days between May 15 and July 17.

The reason I highlighted that is that within month view there will be an entry for each of those 56 days for each instance of the event (and you have many, many instances of those events).

And why is it going until January when it was told to stop in July? How can you say this is what we told it to do?

    What I actually wrote was:

It doesn’t in fact go on until the end of time – if you skip forward to January 2014 for example you will find the calendar is clear.

If you visit (your URL)/events/2014-01 you can see that. All I wanted to highlight by this is that it isn’t going on indefinitely and that rather than being “viral” in nature it is responding to the instructions of whomever created the event.

Please tell me exactly how we’re meant to enter something that recurs weekly for six weeks (not an extraordinarily long time if you’re going to have recurrence at all) and skips some days.

Certainly – can I refer you back to one of my previous posts where I shared this screenshot showing some example settings? Please use this as a reference. Critically:

    * The initial event starts and ends on the same date
    * It is the custom recurring event pattern that let’s it repeat up until some future point

I expect an answer as soon as possible. merely telling me it’s somehow my fault is not acceptable.

We absolutely appreciate your frustration. It does take time to review the thread and figure out how to address misunderstandings, however, but please know that we aim to respond as quickly as possible.

I’m not suggesting this is simply a case of “you are at fault and our product is fine” – far from it – and I’m trying to work through this with you as quickly as I can. You are posting very frequently however and each time I need to stop and review what you have written – so please be patient and we’ll happily continue working through this with you.

I don’t believe so, but that could definitely be a worthy feature request if you want to add it to our UserVoice page.

OK, so one thing I note is that the event itself is set to span a very long period and that, in combination with the recurring event pattern, is at the heart of this.

Note also that it doesn’t in fact go on until the end of time – if you skip forward to January 2014 for example you will find the calendar is clear.

So let’s break this down and look at the first instance of the event you referenced above:

    – It begins on May 15 and ends on July 7
    – That’s a span of around 56 days
    – It also recurs each week (I’m guessing on 3 days each week?)
    – That means for every day of the week it recurs we’re going to add a further set of 56 event entries to each day on month view, hence the apparently huge number of events

Really I think The Events Calendar is just doing what you are telling it to, though … and probably the issue is how you have set up those events.

Can you look back at my example settings? Note that the start and end date are the same, only the time is different, and that is probably what you need to do here.

To attach screenshots (or share code etc) please use an external service such as droplr.com and paste the link back in to the forum.

Thanks for the heads up – that also seems to be the case in our 3.0 code (our next release) so I’ll ask a developer to change that – thank you for the report 🙂

You should be able to create a new venue and enter new details from there, either from within the event editor or by adding new venues from Events > Venues.

There is already an iCal link which works for a collection of events (ie, if you are viewing an entire month) or for individual events.

I’m not 100% sure about adding a category assigned thumbnail … do you mean you want a specific thumbnail or featured image to show for each category?

If so I’d imagine that’s possible but would probably require a little custom coding and it isn’t something we can help too much with, I’m afraid.

You can definitely create a custom menu of event categories though, which may solve the second part of your question – simply by adding event categories to a menu through the Appearance > Menus screen (you can then assign the menu to a menu widget or else add it programmatically from within one of your templates).

    Hope that helps!
