MemberHi – sorry you’re hitting difficulties, here.
I can certainly see the problem on your site yet can’t quite replicate it locally … I do see you already tried deactivating all other plugins and that you also switched to a default, unmodified theme – thanks for giving that a try! – can you confirm if that impacted on the problem at all, though?
Barry
MemberNot as such, I’m afraid.
You could certainly increase the number of events to show per page to match or exceed however many events you have (you can find this setting in the Events → Settings → General admin screen), though.
Would that work for you?
Barry
MemberHmm, that is odd.
I do see that your event pages at …events/upcoming/ and …events/month/ are available and functioning, so it seems just to affect the main events page at …/events/ – is that correct?
If so, in the first instance, can you try flushing the site’s rewrite rules? This is as simple as visiting the Permalink Settings page (you don’t need to change anything – just visiting it will cause WordPress to regenerate the list of rules).
If that doesn’t solve the problem can you run through the following steps from start to finish?
- Ensure The Events Calendar and Events Calendar PRO are up-to-date
- Deactivate all other plugins
- Switch to a default, unmodified theme such as Twenty Thirteen
- Repeat the permalink flush process
- Now test and see if the main events page is functioning as expected
If it does work after this, start reactivating everything one-at-a-time and see if the problem returns (taking note of whichever plugin/theme seems to trigger the problem if it returns).
Let me know how you get on!

MemberHi!
Many thanks Barry for the help earlier, I’ve had a look and I think I’ll be able to map the additional fields using an array I found. (initial testing seems to work anyway).
Glad that worked out/that you’re on track there 🙂
I wanted to add some custom fields (to be displayed alongside the built in fields Date, Time, Cost etc). I know I can add custom fields from the admin but wondered if you could point me in the right direction to the template file where these are set up.
I managed to add fields using a previous version of the plugin (pre 3.0) which was fairly straight forward but I know the file structure has been completely rebuilt since then
So it’s important to note first of all that the means of implementing customizations like this (in relation to the display of event meta data, that is) is likely to change in the very next maintenance release and, though I can’t commit to a specific date for that release, it’s close enough that I wanted to flag it up. Right now you would need to work with the meta factory to make these kinds of changes … but we’re going to switch back to a template driven approach which ought to make this a lot easier.
With that in mind, I can certainly offer some guidance here but it may well be a smoother, less painful experience to hold off for a week or two 🙂

MemberThe RSS feed order will be by publication date (ordered newest to oldest), I believe. Is that not what you’re seeing / in what way is it whack?
Barry
MemberHi!
Recurring events are indeed a feature of Events Calendar PRO, so to create those sorts of pattern yes – you’d need to purchase a license and install PRO.
Does that answer your question?
Barry
MemberDefinitely – and thanks for your patience and support in the meantime 🙂
Barry
MemberCommunication about major changes is definitely critical and if we let you down there we’re sorry.
I would note though that we did try to summarize changes in advance of the release going out in this blog post and if you listen to Reid’s talk on that page you’ll note he put some particular emphasis on the fact that the recurrence changes were fairly major. We also tried to make it clear we were happy for devs who had implemented customizations to reach out and test things in advance:
If you’ve done some customizations and want to grab a pre-release version of this release to test them out beforehand, let us know and we’ll try to work something out. Email pro @ tri.be for more info.
There’s always room for improvement though and if we could have done a better job here we’re definitely open to your feedback as ever 🙂
Barry
MemberAwesome – glad we could help.
I’ll go ahead and close this thread since we’ve got a temporary solution (and a solid fix is on its way) … if you have a moment though and wanted to share your thoughts on your experiences with The Events Calendar so far we’d love to hear from you on our review page 🙂

MemberNo problem – and thanks for your patience 🙂

MemberHi Margaret,
Honestly I’m not too sure what you mean: The Events Calendar and Events Calendar PRO are both WordPress plugins designed to run within a WordPress-powered website so, at the very least, you would need a WordPress installation in which to use them.
That doesn’t have to be a publicly available website and it could even mean you run WordPress locally on your own computer (if you’re happy with the process for setting that up) if that’s the sort of thing you are picturing?
I hope that answers your question but if not it would be great if you could post a new thread of your own – thanks 🙂
Barry
MemberSure, so the primary change is that – previously – a recurring event consisted of one post but with additional pieces of meta data for every recurring instance (basically, additional _EventStartDate entries).
There were a number of limitations about this approach though and we have now switched to having a single parent post (for the initial event in the sequence) plus multiple child posts, one for each instance that follows it.
If you edit and update all events in a series that means – as things currently stand – each of those posts needs to be updated. The plugin you are leveraging to add your meta boxes though is intentionally limited to updating just one post (if you look at the first few lines of RW_Meta_Box::save_post() you can see what I mean) and that’s the choke point here, so to speak.
Does that help explain things at all?
Barry
MemberExcellent, glad that did the trick 🙂
I’ll go ahead and close this thread but if we can help with anything else please don’t hesitate to create new threads as needed.

MemberHi – thanks for sharing the info about the conflicting plugins 🙂
Check out the site now. The new issue is that when you click previous once it will work correctly. However check the link of the previous button again. The tribe_paged=1 is still set to one so the pagination does not work.
Second issue. Click the main events page and click the previous button again once. Check out where the next events is going to. It switches to upcoming events when it should show you current events.
Yes, these are known bugs and should, I believe, be fixed in our very next maintenance release which will be going out shortly 🙂
Third issue. Go to the main events page. There is no upcoming links pagination when we know it exists from when we hit the previous page.
Is this a standalone issue or does it build on top of the first two? If I visit the main events page I do indeed see previous/next links – can you clarify?
Thanks!
Barry
MemberOK – we do try hard to stick to one issue per thread. Let’s concentrate on the problem with recurring events redirecting to the wrong date here and if you could create a new thread for the tooltip issue one of the team will be happy to help out with that one 🙂
It looks like some recurring events work as expected and perhaps just a few are behaving like the one you just referenced. I’d like to try a couple of things at this point.
The first is to edit that event, change the recurrence pattern very slightly and hit update. Then, change it back to what it should be and update again – does that solve the problem?
If not, can you confirm if the same problem continues to happen when you have no other plugins except for The Events Calendar/Events Calendar PRO activated and only a default, completely unmodified theme like Twenty Thirteen running?
Thanks!
