@Nico:sorry for talking German – I’m just explaining the translation approval process 😉

    Hallo Hans,

für die “Kaufplugins” kann ich die deutschen Übersetzungen, welche unter translate.theeventscalendar.com eingereicht werden, freigeben. Für das kostenfreie Plugin “The Events Calendar” auf wordpress.org habe ich (noch) keine Rechte, bin aber dran.

    Viele Grüße,
    Oliver

PS: ich bin auch nur Nutzer des Plugins, gehöre also nicht zum offiziellen Support Team 😉

    Hi Cliff,

nice to meet you – are you new at the Modern Tribe? I’m doing the German translation of TEC for one or two years now, so I’m aware of the information you gave above 😉

Nevertheless you gave a good hint.
I already did the translation for the text above and installed the downloaded TEC 4.0 .po/.mo files on my website, but it looks they don’t include the translation because they are still waiting for the approval:
    https://www.dropbox.com/s/gta66r4gl5l73mm/Screenshot%202015-12-08%2022.19.36.png?dl=0

Nico tries to become a “Translation Editor” to approve them. I hope a lot of the translation issues will disappear then 🙂

"veranstaltung" (event) displayed in lower case

The 404 problem I was able to identify; it’s related to the translation as well:

The problem is that the URL “/events/community/list” (=> src/Tribe/Main.php:2625) generated by the Events Calendar is included in the translation file. This means whenever this string is translated to another language the link doesn’t work anymore. In this case the translation is “auflisten” and when I use /events/community/auflisten it’s working (this is only a workaround, but not solution)

I already discussed this issue here with some of the support team member for Release 3.x, but it looks that it still exists.

I strongly recommend to take this out of the translation because everybody using a non-englisch translation will run in this issue.

    Best regards,
    Oliver

    Hi Nico,

    thanks for the info!

I tried to become a “Translation Editor”, but couldn’t find out how. On the website they say something like “contact one of the team members”, but there was no way to send them a message.

If you find out how it works let me know! I can do the job for the German translation (like I did before the system was changed 😉

    Best regards,
    Oliver

    Hi George,

Are the issues I reported in my three posts fixed in V4.0?

I’m using the Plugin “Codestyling Localization”, which easily shows you errors or missing translations in textdomains:
    http://www.code-styling.de/english/development/wordpress-plugin-codestyling-localization-en

Maybe this tool helps you to increase the translation quality.
Sorry to say that, but I’m following this plugin for over 2 years and in every version there are translation bugs, which are keeping me busy (in V4.0 I found some new bugs, which haven’t been there in 3.12.x) :-/

    Best regards,
    Oliver

    Hi George!

    sounds great!

Is a bugfix already included in the V4.0 RC1?
Would be a great motivation for me to download and test the release candidate 😉

    Best regards,
    Oliver

I think the new translation system is fine and I would recommend to stay with it. The wrong naming isn’t a big issue.

    Hi Brian,

thanks for the fast reaction and the change of TEC Pro – works fine now 🙂
For TEC: Maybe you can bring up a CR for wordpress.org that it’s configurable to change the name of the po/mo-file?

    Best regards,
    Oliver

Thanks for addressing it! I guess other non-english people will be happy, too 😉

    Hi Brian,

for both TEC and TEC Pro the naming changed, but is still wrong:

    TEC:
    Should be: the-events-calendar-de_DE.po/mo
But is: wp-plugins-the-events-calendar-stable-de.po (plus _DE missing)

    TEC Pro:
    Should be: tribe-events-calendar-pro-de_DE.po/mo
    But is: the-events-calendar-pro-de_DE.mo

    Regards,
    Oliver

Thanks Geoff! This is a appropriate workaround.
Nevertheless I hope in the next version it get fixed 😉

    Hi Geoff,

The word “Veranstaltung” is a substantive therefore in German it has to be capitalized always.
In the translation files (po/mo) it is capitalized, but shows up in lower case in the frontend.

    Best regards,
    Oliver
