ParticipantHi Courtney, Yes, I undertsand about Facebook’s new privacy policy. That is why we are using a personal profile as a work around. We mark that we are interested in events we want on our calendar. This seems to be working well, *except* the picture the organizer chose for their event does not get fed in.
I think you misunderstood my concern. We do *not* want our site’s featured image to be used. We want the photo chosen by the event organizer specifically for the event that is being fed in.
This is an aggregrator problem, not an Open Graph problem. The open graph is about using our image, which is what we don’t want. We want pictures to feed in properly with the event.
Thank you.

ParticipantWe are still able to import the events we mark Interested in on our personal profile. So that is how we are building our calendar now. It is a little more work as we have to manually visit the events pages of our participants and mark the events — but it works.
I was hoping to automate the process with a python script. But I see the events pages have a div class called uiProfileBlockContent. It appears nothing inside that div can be scraped. Too bad. I guess that’s how their privacy policy is implemented.
I sure hope they loosen up and create some kind of permission system. Do you suppose they are open to feedback? It really is draconian that they did not alloe any mechanism for giving permission to share events. Our organizations want to have their events on our calendar. Plus we can’t even feed events in from our own page. Seems like they would have let us at least feed our own page.

ParticipantAdding a screenshot. The import in progress message never completes… spins and spins.

ParticipantIf you can get imports for events I am interested in working again — which is consistent with Facebook’s policy — then I will stick with you.

ParticipantHi Victor,
Yes, I just discovered your post earlier this morning. It looks like it will still import personal calendars for events that you mark you are Going to or Interested in. Is this true?
Thank you.

ParticipantOne by one we are going through the import feeds and finding none of them are completely working. Here is another example.
https://www.facebook.com/pg/WholeWashington/events/
Notice their May 6 event is on our calendar, but their April 20 event is not.All the organizations we have checked have these issues. There were ZERO new events added to our calendar today with 50 organizations’ calendars updated. I can’t believe that is possible.
We cannot advertise ourselves as a community calendar if our calendar doesn’t work. This is unacceptable. We are seriously considering returning to Timely software, which did not have trouble with its imports. MT had other strengths, but imports are central to our operation.
I would appreciate if you could give us a timeline of when we can expect this issue to be resolved. Thank you.

ParticipantUpdate: Our FB event import started working again. However it is not importing all the events on it. I am attaching a screenshot that shows a MT preview of events that got imported compared to events that are on our FB page. Notice three events did not get imported: two on April 21 and one on April 28.
Thank you for your assistance.

ParticipantThese all do not seem to be importing events:

Thank you.

ParticipantBut do they overwrite the contents of the venue and organizer databases, too?

ParticipantThanks for the response! I had intended this as a how-to question, rather than a feature request. We thought about adding an “Email Invite” button to the detail screen in the area that allows us to add custom HTML. The idea would be to prompt users to enter a destination email address, with which to allow them to forward an invitation to an event. A “mailto:” link would allow the user to send on their own behalf using their preferred email client, but I don’t know how to include the .ical attachment in a mailto: link (even knowing the URL you mentioned for .ical export).
The “?ical=1” mostly answered my question, since at least, I can use that to access the .ical from PHP and send an email server side. But, if you know a better way, please let me know.

ParticipantThank you. I updated everything and it seems to be working now.

ParticipantIt’s extremely important to retrieve the location info the user inputs. I would say our users leave the address off half the time because in our town of 50,000 people many of the venues are known places that don’t need addresses.
