That’s definitely a great idea, I do tend to think something like that ought to be the domain of third party extensions, though.

    Sorry, ignore that last post.

Can you login to your site, visit Events > Settings > Template and tell me what the Event Template setting is (ie, default events template or default page template) and even try experimenting with that a little?

Can you provide a link to your site?

If I have the event $post->ID what function can I call to return me the details of the event (ex. event name, event date, thumbnail etc?)

Take a look at our technical documentation (there’s a link in the Useful Resources widget over on the right) – from there you can find details of various template tags that you may be interested in here.

Also, why do you say I might not need to dequeue the javascript?

Because it sounds as if you want to add new behaviour (showing the event details in a “modal” window, for instance, and prohibiting navigation via the mini-calendar to individual event pages) rather than wanting to strip away existing functionality.

The decision of course is yours, you will have a more complete understanding of what you want to achieve than I do 🙂

But, you still left out why my overriding might not be working.

It’s hard to answer. If you have carefully followed the steps in the links I provided then it ought to be working. Can you share a link to your site and/or the code in your custom templates?

Hi mydaney, this sounds like essentially the same problem you described in this thread. Can you follow the troubleshooting steps detailed there and let me know the outcome?

We can either keep the discussion going here and close that thread, or vice versa.

    Hi mydaney,

Does this happen with a default theme/without other plugins running? Here are our basic troubleshooting steps in full:

    • Please ensure that your Modern Tribe plugins are up-to-date and in-synch … for instance if you are using The Events Calendar 2.0.11 you must also use Events Calendar PRO 2.0.11
    • Deactivate all other plugins and change your theme to a default, unmodified one such as Twenty Eleven or Twenty Twelve
    • Now test to see if the problem still exists
    • If the problem has been solved by these steps, start reactivating everything one-at-a-time, testing at each point to see if the issue has returned
    • If the issue does return, take note of whichever plugin (or theme) you reactivated immediately before it started again – it’s likely there is a conflict with this item

There are excellent instructions on templating/theming here:

Javascript is a slightly different kettle of fish – there’s a brief overview here, just keep in mind that – for what you want to accomplish – you may not need to dequeue the scripts put in place by The Events Calendar.

We can bear it in mind, embedding calendars via shortcodes does introduce a few challenges of its own though and I think it has pretty much been discounted for the time being.

Looks like it’s working – are you all sorted here/any other problems stemming from the upgrade?

You can certainly view a specific category of events in the main events calendar right now – anything beyond that is really going to entail some custom work and we can’t really help you too much with that, though if you get stuck at any point please do feel free to ask for help and if we can push you in the right direction we will 🙂

Hi Charlotte. I’m not familiar with the Trim theme. If you’re positive that’s causing the problem can I ask you to send it across as a .zip (send to [email protected], marking your email for my attention – please also include a link to this thread) and we can try to make some time in the next day or so to do a little troubleshooting.

I’m not familiar with AIOSEOP, but it sounds like you’ve pretty much got things sorted on that front.

I have tried to add in the code manually by doing the tribe_is_month() but get nothing to work so long as the plug-in is managing the calendar/event pages.

An approach like this seems to work for me – can you try that and adapt it or else share the code you were using so I can take a look?
