    Hi Courtney,

If you look at the original ticket I tried to update my test system (which is a copy taken yesterday of the live system) and it failed. The error report is attached to the original ticket. I have no confidence updating the live system with the latest version of the plugin will be successful.

Update – Virgin install Apache/WP. WP Theme 2017 on Local NAS. Added both Events Cleanup and Exclusions cleanup Plugins to system. Neither appeared in Tools Menu. WP Importer tool does appear in the menu structure.

As this was a clean install of both Apache and WP I can’t see why this does not work unless there is a dependency.

    Hi George,

I have created a virgin WordPress site using the 2016 theme. Load the plugin and it still does not show up in Tools. So I can only assume there is an inconsistency between the way my servers are setup (Hosted with TSOHost) and yours. I’be even tried using my Serverpress test environment with the same result. As we have finished cleaning the exclusions I don’t see any point wasting more time on this however I will do one more test on a newly built VM Linux server to see if I can track down the issue as it somewhat limits our ability to receive patches in the future.

One question – Is the plugin dependent on any of the calendar plugins or any other plugin?

    Cheers
    Phil

    Hi George,

    To answer your questions above:

    1. This does not show up either
    2. All plugins disabled. Neither show in Tools panel

To confirm all plugins disabled on both a test copy of the system and to verify also on the live production system. server rebooted. 2017 theme applied To eliminate theme.

So you are aware we decided to start clearing these invalid exclusions up by hand earlier this week as the performance issues were impacting on system usage. Most recurring events have now been cleaned. the system so far is not adding expired events as exclusions so that is one positive.

I still would like to know why these plugins don’t appear in Tools as others do.

    Hi,

I have installed this plugin as per instructions provided. Whilst it appears in the plugins window of the main WP interface when selecting ‘Tools’ nothing appears. Deactivated and reactivated it with no success. Logged in as default admin with full admin privileges.Screenshots attached.

    Installing Cleanup Utility
    Hi Cliff,

So as suggested I tried to install the cleanup routine. Feel free to correct me if I’ve done something wrong.

    Process Followed on Dev system:-
-Installed Recurring Events Cleanup Tool – not displayed in Tools
-Events Plugins updated to latest version
-Noticed that available update for Events Calendar Pro shows in WP Admin Dashboard but not Plugins section (see screenshots of Plugin Page and Dashboard page showing inconsistencies with version upgrade availability.)
-Using dashboard to install updated plugins I received a message that both Events and Pro version deactivated due to error “Plugin File Does not exist” See screenshot
-Tried again after upgrading to WP 4.8 same result.
    -Restored system
-Deleted both plugins completely from Plugins page
-Reinstalled latest versions 4.5.9 & Pro 4.4.15 – both appeared to install OK
-Installed Recurring Events Cleanup Tool, no errors reported – same issue – not displayed in WP Admin Tools
    – Also tried using 4.3.4 Plugin with tool with same issue.

The problem I have is that it only on more recent versions that the ability to manually delete exclusions on the post is provided. For performance reasons I have had to regress to Calendar v4.3.4 and Pro 4.3.4 which are the most recent versions, which does at least allow the opening of these events with a large number of exclusions, without crashing or hanging the system. As these exclusions were created by a bug in your software, which I did report sometime ago under this item “Recurring Event Series Performance and sort issues” – although at the time it was not obvious to me that exclusions were being incorrectly created – then I, and I’m sure many others, would much appreciate a fix for this to be provided under our support agreement. Fixing this manually is a huge issue as the 4.3.4 version does not have the ability to delete the exclusions manually, therefore upgrading to the latest versions will, as previously stated, cause the system to become unusable. It often takes 15 minutes to load one of these Events with erroneous exclusion data, with no certainty it will not crash! There are hundreds in our system.

    Cheers
    Phil

Do you have an update on this.

Thanks for the response. I have done some additional testing based on your suggestions. All testing is on a full production copy of the website using a standalone MacBook Pro mid 2014 i7 16GB memory with all files located on SSD drive, no other processes running. This rules out any hardware performance issues my end and eliminates any caching issues. This is purely a performance test of the plugin. For the testing I have used the same dataset and theme (swapping to WP 2015 to confirm timings are constant) and using the same recurring event swapping only the Event Calendar & Pro versions. The process is to go Events>Edit All on a recurring event and timing how long for the system to display the event.

Average timings retrieving 1 recurring event with 53 recurrences local copy production system:-

Version 4.3.4 page displayed in 1 second – date sort order incorrect on some recurring event posts
version 4.4.1 page displayed in 25 seconds – date sort order incorrect on some recurring event posts

Average timings retrieving 1 recurring event with 53 recurrences existing hosted Live Production Database

Version 4.3.4 page displayed in 1 second – date sort order incorrect on some recurring event posts
version 4.4.1 page displayed in 25 seconds – date sort order incorrect on some recurring event posts

See attached files displaying incorrect to sort order.

On versions post 4.3.4 reducing the clean up recurring events made the situation worse, as the number of events was reduced from 53 to 34 which in theory it should have been quicker. It was not. In some tests substantially slower.

Timings on post with 93 recurring events took >5 mins and in some cases had to be killed.

SQL Queries against the WP_POST table returned those items in sub second timing.

I have checked some versions pre 4.3.4 and get the same 1 second timing. All versions post 4.4.1 have the performance and sorting issue. All versions pre 4.4 do not have the performance issue but do display the sorting issue. I can’t comment on whether the recurring events should be sorted in chronological order however logic would dictate they should.

In my view this is proven not to be a caching or server performance issue. It is software related performance issue with the Plugin introduced post version 4.3.4.

Whilst you may not be able to reproduce this on your ‘Test’ system you need to accept that every customer will use the functionality differently.

You comment on logged bug reports not showing anything similar is not strictly accurate and I would suggest you look at the following forum posts which I would suspect, may all relate to the same issue. There are also comments in the forum regarding performance issues on recurring events.

Please confirm that this is accepted as a bug and schedule the fix for the next release. Until then I have reverted our system to v. 4.3.4.

We have found the same issue and specifying the number of occurrences was the work around we used. Doesn’t like European dates.

So I did the permalink update 5 times to try and fix the error but no joy. I then went to plugins and noticed that although the plugins were all at the most recent version Events Calendar was asking me to update to v3.11 which was already installed. Not he fist time this has occurred since the 3.11 upgrade. I deleted and reinstalled Events calendar and then deactivated all plugins. This seemed to fix the calendar items displaying in other categories. I re-enabled the core plugins sequentially and it now works.

This is a total new rebuild so there should be no inconsistencies in any tables etc.

There is still an issue with Recurring events not working which I will post in a separate thread

Additionally recurring events seem to have stopped working completely. The only occurrence is the first day all other dates not shown on calendar. See TEST RECURRING EVENT http://www.alzheimersdementiasupport.co.uk/events/category/sevices/
